Posted .I'm terribly sorry to hear the JCD383 is overheating and not always working. In such situations, we recommend calling in to speak with a rep and they will gladly diagnose, troubleshoot and if necessary offer an exchange under the manufacturer's two year warranty.

This is actually something that Apple talks about and requires that their external drive only be used with their products, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201788 This talks about its need to be connected directly and https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202665 is some more information about their drive. Do not buy, doesn’t work.

I plug it in and it says ‘charging’ for about 3 seconds then changes to ‘not charging’. I contacted customer support and the guy literally told me to buy another one if that one doesn’t work. As though I would waste any more money on a product from this company.

I'd like to try another one as the form factor is pretty nice, but this experience doesn't really make me wish to do that.

Quit working after one use!!

I used it one day, and it worked fine. I drove four hours to my next class and it will not work! I have tried in on different tv's with different HDMI cables and it's junk.

Good features for the price.

Stop working right after the 14 day return date. Have an older version which is still working. Bought the upgraded model because of the additional features. Had to go back to my older J5. Really sorry it stop working.

I then had it replaced to try it again in hopes that it was just a "bad apple" the second one did the same thing a few months later. Save your money.

Stopped Working After A Few Days
