Good Budget Dock for a Surface pro 9

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for something a little more budget friendly for my Surface Pro 9 than the MS Dock and got the J5create. It works just fine for me. I use every port and one HDMI and feed it with a DELL 120 W power supply and so it handles powering my surface as well. the The gigabyte ethernet port works well but I have a 5 Gig optical so I run a separate 2.5 Gb interface on one of the USB 3 ports to give me better throughput. Once or twice it has dropped its connection but I suspect it has to do with the Surface.

Sometimes, it will lose connection to one of my monitors in the middle of my workday and I have to unplug EVERYTHING and reconnect in order for it to connect again. The cord to plug in to the monitor is VERY VERY short.

While researching this product it stated in the description that it is compatible with the newest models of MacBook Pro. I purchased one, brought it home and attempted to download the necessary driver. At this point it was revealed that the driver is not compatible with a MacBook Pro with Apple’s new M1 chip. So I basically have a larger than necessary USB port and Ethernet jack surrounded by a couple of useless HDMI ports. This compatibility issue should be clearly explained in the product description.

Posted .Hi Voodude, unfortunately, the drivers for the JCD543 will not be compatible with M1 computers so the HDMI,VGA and Mic will not will. We picked up this one, and right out of the box, it was easy to hook up and easy to get up and running quickly. Would buy this again!

Great accessory

Bought it mainly so I can use the USB C to have 2 displays and it works perfectly. It also raises the laptop off the desk and helps keep it cooler, which was a nice surprise.

Because, you know “coved”. She knew exactly what would work to overcome my frustration with my previous limited system. This docking system allows me to have my computer, extra large screen, wireless keyboard and any other device I might use like a back-up device.

Was told afterwards most laptops cannot run three monitors. Not sure if this would be useful for only desktops but Best Buy said it should have worked.

However, the USB-C Triple Display Docking Station requires a computer to support DisplayPort Alt Mode for video out via HDMI or DP port and USB Power Delivery 2.0 or 3.0. Please refer to the manufacturer of your hardware for more information on your device. The VGA and stand alone HDMI port requires an installation of a driver for functionality. Not worth the money.

With all the possible connections you can make with this you would think it would be strong enough to power an external hard drive. Customer service said it wasn’t meant for that.

The reason mechanical HDDs consume more power is that it still needs to spin the discs/platters even when it is not actively reading or writing data. Also you will lost some FPS when playing high video demand games.
