needs extra HDMI connection

Posted .A power brick provides pass-through charge to your computer. However, a computer must support Power Delivery over USB-C, including DisplayPort Alt Mode for video out. The Dock is a PnP and driver device. It also provides additional power to the USB ports. Other than that, the Dock is powered by your computer when it's USB-C host connection is connected to a USB-C port.
Poor Engineering

However, there are some serious design flaws internally. I don't know what inside this thing is not wired correctly but I have swapped monitors, used different laptops and even used different power adapters and this is the only consistent thing that has been in the equation for going on 2 years now. This dock is the cause of 3 laptop circuit board failures, 2 were in a macbook. I sent 1 in for repair and it was fixed and about a month later while using this laptop on this dock the laptop refused to turn on again so I sent it in for repair and sold the laptop thinking that there was something odd just going on with that laptop. However I purchased a dell about 9 months ago and today the same exact issue just occurred with it while plugged up to the docking station. I hope this defers people from purchasing this product, I truly believe it is the cause of these hardware failures as everything else in my setup has been swapped out in the past 2 years and the docking station is the only thing that remains.

Posted .Unfortunately, the ports that requires an installation of a driver is the HDMI/VGA/Mic ports. The rest are Plug n Play, however, it requires your computer to support DisplayPort Out and Power Delivery for the JCD543 to work properly. Please refer to the manufacturer of your hardware for more information on your device.

HDMI port bad within 7 months

Now only 7 months later, one of the two HDMI ports has taken a crap and no more dual monitors for my home office. Disappointed this didn’t last longer. Now I need to buy HDMI to DP converter to see if that resolves it. Otherwise, I’ll trash this dock and buy a new one. Also, USB-C cable to laptop is way too short.

Short-term answer to a long-term need

It is August 2021, and it seems this thing was designed to not last. Every day recently, it is not charging my laptop as it had and as it should be. The connection of my Mac's charging cable to this product is just fine. I have no problem changing without this dock in the way. The connection to all the attached devices is fine, and they connect to the Mac. But recently my screens all started to blink (including the one on my laptop). What's not fine, it seems, is the quality of the electronics in this dock. The one cable on this device that attaches directly to the laptop will not charge the laptop, even though connection of external drives and displays are intact. Well, there's only one cable for all of this, so why does it not charge while all the externals remain connected? Bad workmanship. I'd avoid this product.

I bought the first one and at least two ports (the headphone/mic jack and one of the HDMI ports) did not work at all. I didn't even try the DP, VGA, or ethernet ports, so I don't know whether or not those worked. Furthermore, it caused my laptop to shut down several times. NOTE: according to the written label on the box, service disruption is NOT covered under the warranty. So I returned it and bought another one in hopes that the first one was just faulty. I experienced the same exact issues with the second one; HOWEVER, with the second one, when it caused my laptop to shut down, it fried the Seagate Backup Drive that I had plugged into it! Fortunately, Seagate is going to work with me to recover the data on the drive. Here's to hoping that works out alright. Now I've looked into this particular product, as well as other J5 Create products, and I've discovered that they have horrible reviews. Frankly, I am really surprised that Best Buy has these products on their shelves.

The JCD543 will still have some functionality even if you do not install the drivers on your computer. One of the two video ports under the “Or” will still work (Either HDMI or Display Port). The USB-A ports will still function as well. I regret that the docking station did not work out for you.
