Bought 2 J5create – JCD543 for my wife, one for the office and one for home. Small company and old computers. So … I bought her … also got tired of her griping. 4 Dell 27” - S2716DGR monitors, also bought 2 - Logitech MK570 Keyboard and mouse, 2 – Logitech M570 wireless trackball mouse. 1 Laptop HP Spectre x360 13.3” model - 4K 13-AW0023DX. Downloaded the latest driver and installed first. Then connected the USB C from the J5create to the laptop. I had the 2 monitors connected to the dock and the mouse and keyboard connected to the USB ports on 1 of the monitors. Same at her office. Now she can go to the office or take the laptop home and do her business. Or just carry her laptop to job site. Did have a problem at first where one monitor at work would always not turn on, but the USB 3.0 ports would work on the bad monitor with a similar problem at home. My wife had said, after a while, that she noticed that when she moved the dock the monitor would lose signal, but the keyboard and mouse still worked. After trouble shooting found out that the HDMI/Display port was bad on the work dock, I shook the HDMI plug at the connector on the work dock and the monitor would lose signal. I guess the driver became corrupted and caused a similar problem at the home dock. After exchanging the dock everything worked great. Now she’s able to keep everything she needs in one place, desktop screen, without having to think about where it might be. She watches her movies as well as play some of those Facebook type games. For some unknown reason cloud storage and her don't get along. The bad thing is the monitors are 144hz, but the most that can get through the docks is 60hz. I’ve looked at other brands and they are all the same even with the display ports. The start time is slow it feels like forever waiting for the screen to show the MS password screen – 2 to 3 minutes. It’s a long time when you’re sitting there waiting for it to come up in a brand new high end laptop with no other programs yet. Using the dock is definitely not for high end gaming, there is a noticeable delay when moving the mouse. There is no power adaptor connected to the J5create dock so it is not recommended to try and charge a phone as my wife tried to do. She complained that the phone wasn’t charging and I had to explain to her why not. As expected she really didn’t understand but took my word for it.

I share this for the benefit of the few others like me that didn't realize that the ONLY way to connect the laptop to the docking station is through a USB-C port and that there is no adaptor that will work for this. Unfortunately, one of the two laptops that I needed to connect does not have USB-C. Otherwise, it is a great docking station. I was able to connect everything else to it! Regrettably, I have to exchange it for one that connects through a a regular USB port.

This unit had all indications of a home office all-star: function; compatibility; price; features; design; feedback (online reviews). Seemed like an easy home run! In my experience, unfortunately, it struck out, and with sadness, must be released (returned to store) today. It does plug-and-play as advertised, and with easy online driver access and install, offered a promise of high performance. Its design is perfect for my set-up: neat, discreet, adequate ports and port types. Power cable not included but I knew that and would've been happy to purchase one if the unit worked for me. It didn't. I needed it to support a 2-monitor extension to my laptop display, using VGA and Display Port cables. Those ports are there, and everything set up easily. Unfortunately, within 5 minutes, the screen drops began. It's clear that the VGA port is unstable for some reason, but I tested by switching-out cables and monitors and have determined it must be the unit or some aspect of this docking station set-up. It just doesn't work for my basic configuration of HP laptop, Dell monitors, Windows 10 Home OS, and standard peripherals (wireless key and mouse; external hard drive). One of the deciding factors in buying it was the celebrated j5 customer service. I have unfortunately not enjoyed that experience. My ticket is now 48 hours old with only a auto-generated reply to show. I wish I could be more patient, but I'd prefer to return this thing and move on to one that will work.

This docking station is good in terms of portability and ease of use. It was working well for one of my laptops but the other one required switching the HDMI cable to an alternate port every time. There is no power cord included as well. Not a show-stopper given the reasonable price though

      Hello,
The JCD543 requires software drivers to fully function. Windows 10 may automatically download the driver software. If you are using MacOS you will have to manually download the driver from the j5create website. Thanks for taking the time to post your review.

I bought this for use with a Macbook Pro (M1 processor) towards the end of August 2022. My primary purpose was to have additional USB ports with an attached external monitor. When I initially installed the docking station, the attached monitor (tried both Display port cable and HDMI cable) wasn't recognized by the MAC. Spent some time trying to figure out what was going on, and finally found a support topic on J5's website. Had to install some additional drivers and enable an option for the monitor to be recognized. After installing the driver and changing some settings per the support topic on J5 site, I was finally, was able to get the monitor recognized and working. However, anytime I unplugged any of the other USB devices from the docking station, the monitor would no longer be recongized, and I had to go through the install process again. Fast forward another few days, and I began receiving an error message indicating the USB ports were no longer recognized at all while using the docking station unless I disconnect the monitor altogether. So, i could either use an external monitor, or I could use the USB ports of the docking station, but not both at the same time. I even purchased the additional power supply unit for the specific docking station hoping the added power would help, but that didn't change anything. Finally gave up and returned the item to BestBuy. Definitely do not recommend this particular brand of docking station.

Using on my Dell Inspiron Ryzen 5 At first I had issues to download drivers from their site but after that worked I have had no issues using this for the past several weeks. Using UCB connections to a CNC, programmer, printer etc and they stay connected day after day and no issues with the two HDMI screens I am running from the laptop which I just leave closed and sitting on a shelf.

      Hi,
It is good to hear that you find the j5create triple display docking station very useful. While not truly plug and play it does require a software driver to fully function. Some operating systems may automatically download the driver when you plug in the docking station. I hope you have a great day.

I completed my home office and I needed a dock that would allow me to use my work laptop and personal laptop for my two monitors. I picked this item up while I was in-store. Firstly, it's a well made device. It feels sturdy and all the inputs secure the connecters well. I love all of the connections it offers. It does its job fine as a dock, but that really all I can say about. One negative is that I had to install drivers in order for it to work properly. I've never had to do that for any of the docks I've used in the past, so keep that in mind if you have a work laptop because your IT security policy may not allow to install the drivers. Another thing that I'll count as a potential negative was that when I used the two HDMI outputs to my monitors, I had some weird screen mirroring on the far-right side of my secondary monitor. Tried different HDMI cables and the problem persisted. I ended up buying a Display Port cable for the secondary monitor and had no problems ever since. Also, this dock supports 3 monitors via VGA, HDMI and Display Port. You kind of have to pick and choose which connections you want use. One of the HDMI ports is linked to DP so you can't do HDMI/HDMI/DP. A triple monitor setup will have to involve the VGA connector (VGA/HDMI/HDMI or VGA, HDMI, DP).

I love the longer cable and the way everything connects. It was not as intuitive as I would have liked, though I expected it from the 4 start comments I reviewed. It still occasionally takes my computer a reboot or two to snap to both monitors, but works OK once the computer senses all monitors. Like it, just not intuitive as I would have hoped for, even though I did install all the drivers it needed.
