My windows surface however does not connect to it. I would spend the additional monies to get the one with the power option.

Posted .To extend your display's, go to "Display Settings". Scroll down to the Multiple displays area and select Extend these displays (Windows). For Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Displays. Click the Arrangement tab. Make sure that the Mirror Displays checkbox isn’t selected.
