Multiple Monitors are a battle with MacBook

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's be honest that most of us have to have multiple monitors and that is why we are looking at this docking station. The good is that with a lot of time and patience you can install all the drivers and make the configuration changes and get multiple monitor support. The problem with that is if you are new to the Mac you will get easily frustrated with this setup quickly. It took several attempts to understand the directions provided and I finally got my large monitors to work. However, if you don't breathe the right way or lord forbid you step away for a moment and the laptop goes into power saving mode, you will find yourself battling the laptop to send signal to all the monitors again, reboot, open and close the lid, rinse and repeat and maybe it will work. Frustrating at best. I rank it at fair just because it will work but it is a struggle at best.

Unfortunately it did not work with my laptop right out of the box. I reached out to the company and they directed me to download a specific patch. Kind of works now but took too long to setup and use. Save the money.

A great multi-port dock, easy to install (PnP). Only adds 1 second to last bios time in task manager. Internet port allows same speed as an on-board ethernet port. J5create seems to have an outstanding customer service department. This is model JCD543

Posted .The JCD543 uses MCT/USB graphics drivers for extended display output beyond 1 external monitor. macOS natively supports only 1 external display over USB-C unless you install MCT drivers. You would also need to grant permissions under System Settings. If these steps weren't completed, the Dock will not function correctly.

The MBA2 has only two USB-c ports and one is needed for power because I could not run power thru the i5 system to power by MBA2. This basically made it worthless for my purposes. I found a better system that I use.

Great dock with VGA

The power pass-thru, Ethernet, and audio ports allowed me to work without a number of single use dongles on my 2017 MBP. I had a question for j5create support and they got back to me in a very timely fashion. It’s working very well for me.

Perfect for my needs

This docking station allows for better viewing of documents without minimizing and maximizing. The Best Buy team was excellent in helping me out on this purchase. They understood my needs and made this suggestion that saved me some money.

Ports Malfunction With Time

I bought the device initially to set up my home office with two monitors. Randomly, one screen would not turn on. I tried every workaround possible until I thought to hook up the monitor's HDMI cord to the actual laptop instead of the docking station. Boom, both monitors now work. I returned the docking station for a replacement, and now, past my return window, same issue - different device.

Ok, but some issues

I use this dock with a Microsoft Surface Book 2. I’ve noticed some issues with my Logitech keyboard/mouse randomly losing connectivity. External USB drive lettering had to be completely reassigned (a drive that has always been D: drive came up as G: drive for no reason) which broke several files and shortcuts I use everyday. All in all the dock works alright, but I would probably return it and get a replacement Microsoft dock if there was one available.
