Customers recognize the Wireless Display HDMI Extender as being easy to set up and use, with generally good picture quality. However, some users experienced inconsistencies in range and connection reliability, along with occasional lag. While many appreciate the extender's ability to transmit over distances, concerns were raised about the price and the product's long-term dependability.

I bought this so I could take a portable TV outside to watch on my patio. Previously I was using an extra long HDMI cable that I would pass out the window, but I moved my Directv box to the second floor and that became impossible. I used the Directv app on my iPad but the app is horrible (always crashing, not showing all the channels I get). I tried this extender and I couldn't be happier. The transmitter is in the second floor bedroom and I have never had an issue. No lag, no dropped signal, no worries. Signal is rock solid. I attached a board to the back of the TV (using the screw holes for attaching a wall mount) and mounted the receiver and a power strip to that. The TV and receiver plug into the power strip so all I have to do is to take the TV outside and plug in the power strip and everything comes on. It takes less than 30 seconds to pair, and I'm watching TV. I also velcro attached an extra remote to the back and can easily change channels using the IR repeater. When it's time to come in, I unplug the power strip, pick up the TV and bring it inside. No wires, no mess. Couldn't be easier. I did notice that some of the negative reviews said the unit stopped working after a while so I paid an extra $25 for a 2-year Best Buy warrantee so I'm covered for the next 2 years. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I will be returning. Continually loses signal and the receiver and transmitter are no more than 20 feet away. The only way to maintain the signal is to take the transmitter out of the cabinet inside the house.

Wireless signals can be disrupted by walls, metal objects, or other electronic devices. If the transmitter is inside a cabinet, this can block or weaken the signal.
Keep the transmitter outside the cabinet, or try placing it in a more open area with fewer obstructions.
Ensure that there are minimal electronic devices near the transmitter and receiver that could interfere with the wireless signal.

If I could go 1/2 star I would. This is the worse quality item I’ve ever bought for over $100. Right out of the box the pair button on the transmitter is stuck and won’t push in. Then when you plug something into the transmitter it buzzes like an electrical arch. When it is “working” the video cuts in and out and it’s only about 50 ft from the other box. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The quality of this product is worth about $20 Max.

Kennon, I am sorry to read about your poor quality experience with the JVAW53. In the case where the "Pair" button is stuck on either of the transmitter or receiver, we recommend contacting the support team printed on the packaging and seek an exchange. It is possible the JVAW53 may have been factory defective and thus causing this. Again, we apologize for the troubles you experienced and hope we can turn this around. Respectfully, j5create

It works at least—but there’s a few caveats

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Overall—It really works, much to my skepticism about it. There are however, a few drawbacks. The biggest being range, in my experience 1 room over and that was all it took. The next, possibly a design issue, the box itself gets very hot. I mean for something that operates more or less like a router, why does it get so hot? On idle it gets fairly warm. With use it easily reached 95+ degrees. In my use case, only the receiver gets hot, not so much the transmitter. If it weren’t made of plastic you’d easily burn yourself handling it after use. I personally don’t believe this is good for its longevity. Of course, this is assuming that my unit isn’t defective and your typical unit doesn’t experience this. Due note, at the time of writing i wasn’t able to locate my infrared thermometer and I used a different thermometer that is most certainly not meant to be used in this way. The actual temperature is certainly higher.
On the brighter side of things, this thing is definitely useful. Moving around from 1 room to the next with a connected device is great. In my case pairing a game console to it makes moving from living room to bedroom or den to let kids watch tv is great.
Performance—As mentioned above, in my use case, 1 room distance was all that was needed to have issues. To better explain, that distance is about 10ft with a sliding glass door between the rooms. The transmitter sitting on top of an entertainment center in an open living room and receiver on a shelf in the other room. As for obstacles, there’s the glass, a tv panel, and the shelf’s particle wood framing.
Usability—So how well does it transmit picture quality? Packaging and product description says 1080p but in my use case the image quality is slightly degraded. As I’ve stated in other reviews, my house possibly has a lot of interference from other wireless devices such as mesh WiFi routers, multiple smart hubs, subnet WiFi networks, a multitude of zigbee/z-wave smart devices, and many smartphones possibly creating more noise from Bluetooth and other radio signals. That said the end result is closer to a washed out 720p image.
If you game, a heavily driven story based game is acceptable, much like platformers and indie games. Movies/streaming is also an acceptable quality unless your needs require that the result be cinema quality. Where I do have an issue is during fps multiplayer matches such as call of duty, fortnite, etc. Besides image quality, there is a slight bit of latency that is very noticeable.
NOTE: the images included are of little help as the banding is created from the screen. Screen capture images will be updated in comments.
Other thoughts—An integrated power button would of been great to have. It would of made coping with the heat issue much better. Having to unplug it every time from its jack makes it possible to have the cord drop into the narrow spacing behind our entertainment centers.
Conclusion—at this price point it is a bit hard to swallow considering the short distance a real world setting provided. A 2 story home would probably not be a very good fit unless it is used on the same floor.

Wanted a solution to extend the image from my desktop computer in our home office to our big screen in our living room, and decided to give the J5Create HDMI extender a shot.
Unboxing and setup:
Inside the box are a transmitter / receiver units, one 2’ HDMI cable, two power adapters and IR adapter cables “if you want to use an IR remote and have it extend into the other device”, and a manual.
Setup is about as simple as it gets, just hook up the transmitter to the device you want to transmit from “the desktop in this case” and destination device “our 65” in our living room”. Each device has its own power supply and there’s one short HDMI cable include which I used to connect to the desktop computer. I used the cable off our DVD player in the living room to hook the receiver up to the TV.
After plugging them in the picture instantly appeared on the living room TV, no problems at all and the picture was superb, better than I thought it would be.
Impressions:
I couldn’t be more impressed, while these only support 1080P the image looked absolutely awesome on our 4k TV, we were pretty much blown away by the image quality. The image itself looked every bit as good as it does on my 32” 2k 144mhz gaming monitor and trying out Fallout New Vegas I didn’t have any clipping that was noticeable and it was able to maintain 60fps all the time.
Our desktop computer sits in another room approximately 25’ away from the TV and there’s absolutely no problem transmitting that distance. I even had the receiver buried in the bottom of the TV cabinet to keep it hidden and figured this would be a good test to see how the signal was.
Setting this up was a breeze, it was all PnP, I didn’t have to do anything other than adjust the resolution for Fallout down to 1080 but still had all the settings maxed out. I’m going to be using this on our projector mainly and can’t see any issues running that with the transmitter being further away than the projector. This is really going to expand our viewing pleasure using either the big screen or projector now. I can see this device also coming in really handy if you want to hook up a laptop and a projector in an office environment for presentations, this way you could have the projector mounted on the ceiling and not have to worry about how you are going to hook up different devices. I’m giving this a full 5 stars just for how well it works and the quality of the image it produces.

j5create - HDMI Over Wireless Extender Kit
j5create may have missed the memo about aggravating gadgets. Devices like this HDMI wireless extender aren’t supposed to work this well. They aren’t supposed to work by simply plugging in, with no need to do anything special (including reading instructions). Wow. What a breath of fresh air.
SETUP: I tested two different situations.
First setup- Security System Monitoring.
Transmit the audio/video output from my Night Owl camera security system to a TV all the way on the other side of my house. (At least 4 walls and a laundry room with appliances are in the path, not including closets and just stuff). I wanted to avoid a run of HDMI cable 45ft (not including up and down walls with all the required bends).
j5create to the rescue.
1- I plugged in the j5create TRANSMITTER to an outlet near my source (DVR). I took one HDMI cable (included) and plugged it into my Night Owl security DVR with the other end plugged into the j5create TRANSMITTER.
2- I went across my house to the room with an extra Tv. Plugged in the j5create RECEIVER into a nearby outlet. Took one of my HDMI cables (only one comes with the kit) and plugged in my receiving Tv and the other end into the j5create RECEIVER. Set the INPUT of this Tv on the desired setting.
Second setup- Amazon FireTv sent to distant location. Same obstacles.
1- This setup is the same distance, but the opposite direction. I also needed to enable the IR remote extender feature. If I wanted to change programs at a distance on my Amazon Fire Box I’d prefer not to have to get up and run across the house and “blindly” change channels.
PERFORMANCE: Situation 1- Success. The picture that had been displayed on my original security system location is now displayed on the Tv 45 feet away. And, the audio is working right along with it. I ran this setup for several days without hiccup.
Situation 2- The Amazon Fire video on my distant Tv was onscreen and looking OK. This is a more severe test, because the bright, colorful image is more demanding and audio synchronization is more obvious if it misses. And, of course, the IR remote signal is also important.
This distance combined with wall obstacles presented a bit of a challenge and required care in placing the j5Create devices. I got a good, colorful picture with decent voice and picture synch. The remote IR feature worked reliably. But, I did have occasional intermittent freezes and the quality of picture didn’t match that of a wired TV a few feet away. Some effort to improve j5create placement or a more reasonable distance will probably improve things. I’m less in love with this outcome, but I’m also stretching the limits of the j5create devices because of all the intervening walls.. j5create's suggested application in conference room setups is definitely reasonable. A more open space should also make a big difference.
ISSUES: The quoted distances for trouble-free connections on this type of device are always optimistic. I’m OK with some trial & error when the setup takes only a few minutes.
It would be a near perfect device if it had a local HDMI output, also, at the transmitting end. This would turn it into an extender/splitter. I think the added expense would increase its value by much more.
CONCLUSION: This is a quick and easy setup with a satisfactory solution for a number of problems I need to solve. For my security system, it’s perfect. While not a demanding application, it works beautifully. Using this j5create HDMI extender for extending the reach of a high quality streaming device to, say a projector, but not at lengthy or obstacle filled distances, it also works fine. I’m a picky media user and I would probably complain about the video quality at my lengthy, obstacle filled distances. j5create suggests this device is intended for conference room solutions, between a computer, for example, and a display device like a projector. I’d bet that works very nicely. I can recommend this. Just be sure to test it out before your return period expires. It works for me, but situations will vary.

Eventually I plan on using these extenders with my outdoor Video projector that I usually have in my backyard, but I move annually to display video across my Garage on Halloween. In the back yard the distance from the source to projector is abut 20' through a Stucco wall. To my garage it more like 50' through 3 interior walls. So to see if these would meet my needs I set out to do some testing.
First the initial setup, I decided to use a laptop and monitor to test with as I could move either very easily, and to view signals in daylight, I'll be using my projector at night, and during the day it's next to impossible to see, even thought it has 4500 lumens output. So first I powered up the Receiver extender; first image below shows the output on the screen. Status and instructions clearly displayed on the screen, Perfect! I connected the Transmitter extender to my notebook via HDMI, briefly the message in the screen changed to the second image and then my notebook screen was visible to my monitor. Great that was easy. My monitor supports 2K output, which I was using before trying these extenders. The monitor changed to HD resolution as soon as the extenders were connected. So as specked these J5create extenders support up to full HD, not 2K or 4K, what I expected and will be using with my HD projector.
Not surprisingly separated by 6' they work perfectly. I then moved my monitor outside, where my projector will be most of the time. And when I got everything powered up, it took a little longer for the connection to compete (5-10s) but once connected the signal was rock solid. I walked between the receiver and transmitter, no issues.
So far so good. I now moved my monitor to the back of my garage where I'll have the projector (rear projection) for Halloween. I realized, from the transmitter to the receiver was about 50' but a freezer and a bath room (2 interior walls + garage wall) bisected the path bewtween the Transmitter and the Receiver. This was obviously more of a challenge than I initially thought, but they claim these extenders can reach 200'. Once all were powered up I could see the receiver looking for the transmitter on the screen. After waiting for 60s and playing with the antenna still no connection. I then moved the receiver box closer to the wall (cable length 3'). I saw a connection then it dropped. I knew I was close, I changed the HDMI cable out with a 10' cable that allowed me to mount the Receiver box high on the garage wall, and put the antenna up. Bingo, a great stable signal. I tried opening and closing the Freezer, no problem. Now I've tested the setup's I needed the J5create HDMI extenders to work for me, and they do what I need. There is no doubt that the quoted 200' distance is probably with a clean line of sight. Add a couple of walls and other electronics, pipes etc, and you distance will vary.
If your still with me, 4 or 5 years ago I'd attempted to do the same with a different brand of extenders. The garage never worked and the backyard worked for about a year, when it just won't connect any longer. Giver the strength of signal I'm getting from the J5create extenders I think I finally found a long term workable solution. And given their price they are a deal compared to other products I've considered, or tried using. They come with IR input, output blasters, which should allow your to use a remote at the receiver location, as long as you extend the IR output from the transmitter to your IR pickup (cable box/receive/Blu-ray player. Really a nice bonus. My only complaint in setting the system up, was I wish I could have seen some sort of signal strength meter so I could better tune things in with the adjustable antenna. They also show the firmware version, but there is no discussion is to if they can be upgraded (why show the version it it can't be changed) . But once connected this is not necessary. All told I'm pleased with the product.

The j5create Wireless Display HDMI Extender is a device that aims to bridge the gap between your HDMI-enabled devices and your display, without the need for cumbersome cables. After spending some time with this product, I've settled on a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. Here's a breakdown of my experience:
Pros:
Ease of Setup: The device is fairly straightforward to set up, requiring minimal effort to get it up and running. This is a big plus for those who are not particularly tech-savvy.
Wireless Convenience: The wireless functionality is the standout feature, offering the freedom to connect devices to a display without being tethered by a physical HDMI cable. This is particularly useful in a tidy office setup or a living room, where cable management can be a hassle.
Decent Range: The extender performs well within the advertised range, maintaining a stable connection without significant lag or signal drop, which is commendable for wireless HDMI solutions.
Cons:
Intermittent Latency Issues: While the connection is generally stable, there are occasional latency spikes that can disrupt the viewing experience, especially during high-motion video or gaming.
Compatibility: While it works well with a wide range of devices, there are some compatibility limitations. It's important to check your device's compatibility before purchasing.
Price Point: Considering the performance and the occasional hiccups in connectivity, the price point might feel a bit steep for some users. There are cheaper alternatives in the market, though they might not match up in terms of build quality and ease of use.

Send MOST A/V WIRLESSLY Through A Nearby Display

The JVAW53 HDMI over Wireless Extender by j5create is a product you didn’t know you needed, and it is only $140 at Best Buy.
This kit includes a transmitter and receiver as well as IR blaster for control of the source device, if it normally is remote controlled. Let me explain.
You’ve got a TV, game system or computer in another nearby room. You’d like to watch the content from that device on a display, say, on an outdoor patio or in another room, or in a meeting room, and you don’t want to run cables. Just supply the power from a wall plug, perform the simple, really simple hookup steps and enjoy.
I can tell you, IT WORKS!
It does not matter what is fed through the system, from the source to the remotely located display, so for my evaluation, I chose to send TV from the family room to a nearby TV outside on the patio that is not otherwise connected to DirecTV.
There are certain restrictions to keep in mind. Some content is protected to prevent copying. The anti-copy technology prevents transmission protected video and audio through the HDMI cable.
Bear in mind that the typical TV, regardless of location inside or outdoors, also has the inputs for antenna, HDMI, USB and cable. Think of the j5create kit as another cable box without the monthly fee. OR, think of sending whatever may be on the screen of a nearby computer in your actual in- or out-of-home office (Who goes into an office these days?) onto a display (it’s a TV!) in a nearby meeting room for the gathering throngs (safely distanced, of course).
Have I got your attention . . . yet?
Think of the possibilities! Are you thinking?????
If used as a remote display for a video game, users might think there would be an unacceptable signal lag from home base to the remote display, causing your gamer to lose a match. While there is a lag, the manufacturer claims it is less than 60 milliseconds. That’s .06 seconds. That’s right, 6/100 of a second. Hopefully, not enough to be the difference between winning and losing an online game.
How does it do what it does?
Cable boxes, DVD players, computers, game systems send their audio and video out to the local TV with HDMI, right? (The answer is YES.) Instead of seeing and hearing the programming of interest directly on the usual TV, this JVAW53, instead, connects to that device’s HDMI output and sends it wirelessly to the other TV, AND it includes an IR blaster. If there is a remote control used at the original source, take along the remote control to the remote location and point it at the TV as before. One end of the IR baster is ideally mounted where it can “see” the device to be controlled.
Over at the remote TV, the other IR blaster is mounted on the side, bottom or top of the TV bezel, or frame. In so doing, the remote control at the remote location is operated as usual, as you do now. What do you do now? You aim the remote control at the TV, right?
When the buttons on the remote control that is now at the remotely located display are pressed while aimed at that TV, the signal is “seen” by the remote signal IR (Infrared) signal blaster and sent wirelessly to the other signal blaster back at the base. From there, the signal blasts from the IR emitter now aimed at the device the user wants to control. Everything works as normal, as expected, as if the equipment is still located in the same room.
Added flexibility comes from compatibility with Windows, Android, MacOS and iOS devices.
Specifications indicate that it supports resolutions of 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080p. Not supported is the newest 4K TV standard. To this I say, “No big deal.” That is NOT why I would want and use this. It is an inexpensive convenience or business tool, not a device for purists.
Cool, isn’t it? It certainly can be, and it can save money by removing the requirement for another set of equipment in the other location.
Here is what it CANNOT DO. First, while the remote TV is receiving content from the cable box, game system, DVD player or computer, the sound and image back at home base, by necessity, must be the same as on the remote TV. The Wireless Display HDMI Extender is NOT a cable box. It does not split the signal. It takes the signal in its entirety from home base and sends it without wires to the nearby remote location onto another TV.
For example, while mom and dad are watching programming from the den DVR, j5create cannot send a different channel or different content to the remote location. It CAN and will save money by trading convenience and flexibility from the base system to the remotely located TV. This is what I see as j5create’s most useful usage model for consumers.
In other words, you don’t get the programming split for display both locally and remotely. If sent to a remote TV, it is NOT seen on the original TV or computer. Bear this in mind when considering the usability of THIS product.
Tonight, for example, I wanted to stream a movie not capable of streaming other than on a computer. In this case, I connected the HDMI out from the computer monitor, as if to a second in a dual display setup. With the other TV upstairs in my bedroom, I set the j5create as the second monitor as if in a dual monitor setup. The streamed movie went out to the j5create transmitter as if a second desktop. I went upstairs to watch on my bedroom TV using the HDMI output on the j5create receiver connected to an HDMI input on the TV. Remember, the "other" TV has to be set to the input corresponding to the output of the j5create HDMI. Since there isn’t a remote control for the computer, I did not need the IR blaster, but I DID take the wireless mouse, which, thankfully, was within wireless range, even if just barely. I used the mouse to pause and rewind to replay scenes. Not the perfect setup, but this is what j5create JVAW53 does well. Certainly better than having to take the desktop computer upstairs.
Includes a standard j5create one-year warranty with an additional six months for registering the product online as per a brochure packed in the box, so be sure to activate it.

I decided to get this because I no longer have a DVD player, but do have one on my laptop that I can transmit to the TV with the use of this wireless extender. Setup for this is very simple. Plug the HDMI cable (included) into the transmitter then into your computer, and plug in the AC adapter. You will need another HDMI cable (not included) to plug into your TV and the receiver. Once both lights are green, it is ready to use. Just make sure you have your TV set to the correct HDMI input. I didn’t do that at first and thought I had a problem, but then realized I had to change the input.
The computer and transmitter were approximately 25 feet away from the television and receiver and I didn’t experience any lag in the picture or the voice whatsoever. It was just like I was watching cable! There was no distortion or pixilation in the video. In fact, it looked much better on my 75” TV than it did on my laptop.
This wireless extender will come in handy for our projector screen also! I am looking forward to using the projector outside.
I am taking one star off because only one HDMI cable came with this product and you must use two for this to work. You will need one to hook the transmitter to the laptop (or transmitter device) and one to hook the receiver to the TV for the long distance wireless transmission. There is also the concern that the receiver does get very warm after having it plugged in for 24 hours. However, I do love this wireless extender and it does work VERY well for my use and I would recommend it.

Works pretty well. Not difficult to use. Had one that stopped working and couldn't be fixed after less than 6 months, but all others I have used have worked for longer.

Overall these work great and are simple to install. They are so easy to use that a beginner should be able to have them up and running in under half an hour. The only downside is once in a while they need to be repaired.

This product works great ! It’s not fast enough for games with lots of graphics like grant theft auto but for the games I like (golf) it works great!
