The sound is great. Unfortunately, after about a week, it just goes to MUTE and the ONLY way to fix this is to unplug it all. If I could, I'd take it back. Yah, the sound is good, the headache isn't worth it.

There's nothing overpowering about this, I bought it for the detachable speakers and they are average, at best. I am disappointed with the detachable speakers output.

The JBL Bar 1000 on the surface looks like a normal soundbar + subwoofer combo. Sleek and black, it mounts just like a normal soundbar under, or in my case over, your TV. Unlike some others, this has optical audio input, bluetooth, and three HDMI inputs in addition to the HDMI out to the TV. Which means it can as a reasonable sound receiver taking multiple inputs and passing through to the TV as needed. The TV audio goes out through the same HDMI out/eARC connection which is great - as you don't need your other sources to go through the TV. So between this and the likely several HDMI inputs you have on the TV, you're likely pretty well covered. My only disappointment input-wise was that the optical input effectively shares the channel with TV. So you couldn't use the HDMI out to TV and optical at the same time. That said, it's pretty unlikely to have something that has optical out but not HDMI. That said, I do have a smart TV device that's capable of outputting better audio over optical than HDMI so I lose out by not being able to have it pipe video to the TV but audio separately to the soundbar. Now, even that wouldn't be that big a deal if this soundbar was just a normal 2.1 channel (stereo + the subwoofer). But it's not. It can effectively act as a 7.1 channel system. That's because the soundbar itself has two detachable speakers than when detached act as rear speakers and the bar itself is effectively a 5 channel device, with left and right up-firing speakers, left and right "stereo" speakers, and a center channel. With the sub, and detachable speakers, you get the full 7.1. Setup is pretty easy - as is normal for these. Mount the sound bar, connect the sub to power, hook up HDMI and you're up and running. The sub connects automatically on first start and using the remote to repair it is pretty simple. On the remote you can cycle between TV (HDMI/eARC or Optical), Bluetooth, and the three HDMI inputs. It also supports WiFi which lets you stream music to it as a Chromecast or Alexa device. I liked being able to add it as a source for whole house music during parties. Normally, the living room isn't covered as it doesn't make sense to have a permanently on smart speaker there getting confused by the TV. Wifi setup is through the JBL One app which configures things over Bluetooth. And aside from connecting to smart speaker services, you can simply connect to it over Bluetooth to stream music directly from your phone or other device. With the two detachable speakers connected, it's obviously not acting like a 7.1 system. I'm not sure if it's doing 5.1 in that mode or just 2.1 but the speaker sounds great. Definitely better that my TV speakers alone and the base from the sub is very nice. I use it with the detachable speakers connected most of the time, but when it's time to watch a movie or show I'm really into, I grab the speakers and put them on the sides of the couch for the full surround experience. And it is ridiculous how great they are. Frankly, I can't tell the difference between this and completely wired systems. The detachable speakers charge when docked and last for at least 3 hours which is a decent amount. I've yet to use them long enough that the battery runs out. They also have USB-C power input so you can mount them permanently in surround mode and just plug them into a standard USB charger. I never noticed any lag in audio so if you don't already have a surround setup, this is a great choice due the flexibility you have. There's even a wall mount in the box for them. The remote is pretty basic, power, input selections, bass, calibrate, mute and volume up/down buttons. A cool thing you'd notice when getting everything set up is that there's no "screen" to break up the front. It's instead cleverly "hidden" by the visual indicators being LED pixels that are behind the speaker grill. They turn on when the speaker is first turned on and in response to making a change using the remote but otherwise stay off and unobtrusive. If you've ever had a soundbar or other device annoy you with an always on light or too bright screen when in use, no worries here. Sadly, the remote itself is infrared only which means it needs line of sight to the soundbar to work. Most of the time, I'm not using it anyway as eARC lets me use my TV remote to control volume and mute. The only weird thing is that the volume level indicator on the soundbar and my TV don't match up. With my TV speakers disabled, the volume level jumps by 3 instead of 1 when volume up is pressed. Also, if you use the soundbar remote, the TV also displays the same volume change. But once I got used to seeing volume "30" not be something ridiculously loud, I don't even pay attention to it anymore. I've experimented with sound projector like sound bars that attempt to do a virtual surround sound system with varied success. I like the approach taken here, it works a lot better. There's een a calibration you can perform but this works great without it. I honestly can't think of a feature I'd want that this doesn't have. Maybe in some distant future, we'll have 16K TVs and this won't be able to keep up but until then, it's pretty dang awesome.

This surround sound system cost over 1,000.00$ and it won’t play sometimes and I have to unplug it and plug it back up to get it too work. It cost too much to have to put up with this behavior.

For being a pricey soundbar, it's very underwhelming. I like jbl products, I have many jblspeakers and other soundbars but this soundbar is barely "just okay". Would not recommend this soundbar to anyone

Honestly for the price I was expecting to be wowed much more than I was. Performance was fair, but not what I was expecting at that price point. I would stick with a receiver and speakers for much better performance.

    Big Sound, Nice Package

The JBL Bar 1000 is a neatly packaged soundbar that comes in a solid plastic housing with a nice aesthetic to it that won't displease the style maven in your household. I picked this soundbar up for my new living room TV. The room is an open space approx 300 sq ft. (hardwood floors) with 9' ceilings connected to kitchen and dining. The soundbar did an excellent job of delivering a big sound despite the lack of soft surfaces and enclosed walls. Bass didn't reverb or vibrate the room too much, but delivered just the right amount of punch to make your viewing experience more enjoyable. The overall sound from the front channels was quite excellent with a very pleasing and clear range. The subwoofer is a rear-ported, downward firing 10" wireless (except for electric) speaker. As stated previously, the sound it delivers is clean and enhances your viewing experience quite well. The main unit is nice and compact and delivers a 7.1.4 audio experience when paired with it's wireless surrounds and sub. The chassis itself has a matte finish with rounded corners. It looks really nice and feels really solid. There's no annoying light or screen on the front to distract from viewing. The only time this front display lights up is when you use the remote or it detects a source/signal change. The surrounds connect to the racetrack center unit for charging or when you don't want to have them out for viewing. They disconnect really easy and are super lightweight for placing wherever you can in the room. The app setup was reasonably simple and made for a quick setup with simple to follow prompts. My only con here is that it doesn't natively support YouTube Music (or iTunes) in it's In-App music section. But you can chromecast to it using Google Home or a chromecast device. It will pair with your Google Home setup so you can direct it with voice commands as well. As well, it has a built-in calibration service that will tune the system to your room to assist in delivering the best possible audio for your use. It came with plenty of brackets and mounting options should you choose to wall-mount the center or surrounds. With a total output power of 880W (440W soundbar, 300W sub, 2x70W surrounds) you've got a solid device to deliver a enjoyable listening experience with your living room TV. FYI: The freq response is 33Hz-20kHz. I fired up Paramount Plus Strange New Worlds and Netflix Black Mirror and the dialog on both were very clear and the music and bass didn't overpower the experience as can happen with a lot of devices. I've used a lot of different soundbars over the years, and they always were better than the TV speakers, but none ever really wowed me. They were generally just better than the TV speakers with no real upgrade in capabilities. This soundbar so far has me feeling a lot better about where the tech is heading with these. It's not just better than the TV speakers, it's a definitive upgrade to the listening experience. I would highly recommend this device to a friend looking for a soundbar.

    Heavy hitting soundbar

Hello friends, this is my review of the JBL Bar 1000. This thing is definitely large and in charge. My unit was shipped to me and it showed up with the box absolutely destroyed. It looked like maybe it took a trip around the world twice. However, the JBL Bar 1000 was in mint condition on the inside. The packaging did a wonderful job protecting its contents. After extracting the JBL Bar 1000 from its mangled box I found a very nice-looking set of speakers on the inside. There is a main sound bar a set of two satellite speakers and a big bad subwoofer. Everything has a nice texture to it, nothing feels cheaply made. Included is a set of metal brackets for mounting the soundbar to the wall underneath your TV. Also included is a set of tiny brackets to affix the surround sound speakers to the wall behind where you sit. This bracket system allows you to really make the JBL Bar 1000 integrate into your space for great sound without wires hanging around. The surround speakers are easily removed from their brackets for a quick charge to keep them playing. The manual says about three and a half hours to recharge. That's about what I got, and then I received about 12-14 hours of playtime before needing to recharge them. Recharging is very easy just pick speakers up from their brackets and stick them onto the sound bar sides. They are held in place with magnets which is nice. Once charged simply place them onto their brackets. Now for sound quality, This JBL Bar 1000 rocks! The bass is heavy and rumbles the room. Like most things on this bar, the level of bass is adjustable. So I have been able to adjust the amount of bass needed for my room. Aside from that the bass is clean and digs fairly low. The subwoofer design helps it to pound the floor and really put a lot of energy into the room. This helps the JBL Bar 1000 to have a balanced overall sound. There aren't too many highs or lows. For 90 percent of folks who have a regular soundbar, this will blow you away with how much more balanced the sound field is. With that said I think the most important part of this soundbar is the surround sound you get. This is the immersive experience that most folks want when watching TV. However, to get this effect you need a lot of extra speakers with wires running all over the room. And I know most people will just not want wires everywhere. That's the beauty of this setup. no wires! But great surround sound. (FYI if you want to leave the surround speakers on the wall, there is a USB charging port on the side so you can charge them that way.) This soundbar has delivered the immersive sound field I have been looking for in my living room, so I'm very happy with it. And yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
