Fantastic soundbar and mini surround sound system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic soundbar with so many possibilities. By itself it puts out great sound for any decent size room, but once you charge the detachable side speakers (they are battery operated so you don't need to plug them in besides charging) and run the Calibration process (which is really easy to do), you have a pretty decent surrround sound setup. From unboxing, this was really easy to setup. The subwoofer comes pre-paired from the factory (you actually can't mix and match subwoofers of the same model with the soundbar and vice-versa), so no need to go through what could be a frustrating pairing process. The setup of the soundbar was also really easy. I plugged it into the wall, then plugged an HDMI cable into my TV's ARC port and into the soundar, and then from my source devices to the soundar, and I was ready to go. The audio sync worked really well out of the box too, although I ran my device's wireless audio sync process anyway. I was also able to pair the soundbar to my phone's app really easily and run through the firmware update process. Everything can be controlled from the included remote or through the app, but the ARC control works really well so I only need the one remote from my source device. The sound quality is amazing too - I actually turned down the bass as it was it times overpowering. I didn't see any option to raise the volume of voices over the bass and treble, but this was easily solved by lowering the bass. Playing music through the soundbar also sounds fantastic. Placing the right and left rear detachable speakers behind creates what feels like a true surround sound experience. Overall, this is a great setup and I hightly recommend it.

JBL never disappoints
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing sound and bass. Got this as a Christmas gift and was very eager to set it up. The Detachable surround speakers are clever especially since I dislike too many wires. Sound is very clear and bass puts it over the top. I will enjoy this one for many years to come

This soundbar has exceeded any expectations I have
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar has exceeded any expectations I have for it. The sound is amazing and the detachable rear speakers are great in creating a surround experience. They rear speakers aren't very loud but when placed in the proper place which is parallel to you to the sides, they really create the surround sound 7.1 that is advertised. The only thing about them is that I wish they can be just a little bit more louder but otherwise, they work great. The wireless subwoofer is AMAZING. The rumble it creates and the sound is very good and deep. It doesn't sound very muffled when playing some lower end stuff. It plays the lower end very clearly. Set up is also very easy. It's literally plug and play. The HDMI arc works well for me and the HDMI inputs also output 4K so I lose nothing there either. The bluetooth connection is very good and has no delay for me. The Google Home connection is nice to have and I have played Spotify through it and it works great. You can wake up the soundbar through your Google Home and I think that's a nice addition.

Boom Boom Room
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me begin by saying I’m not a soundbar type of guy. I prefer high-powered separates, with the ability to adjust timing, power, frequencies, et cetera. That being said, I’ve been immensely impressed with an older Samsung soundbar system, despite never being able to get the rear surrounds to work correctly. Therefore, when this JBL system came available, I decided to see if it would be an “upgrade”, considering the increased subwoofer size, detachable surround speakers, and the sheer size of the center channel. It was a smart move on my part that I did, but, then again, I’m a pretty smart guy, if I do say so myself. Just ask me! This system rocks, to put it in as few words as possible. From the initial unpacking to the final calibration to firing it up and putting it through its paces, JBL still knows what they’re doing when it comes to making high-quality speaker systems. Unboxing was very easy. While the overall box was the weird all-in-one, lopsided, bottom-heavy affair that most manufacturers use to avoid having their product in separate, dedicated boxes, the instructions for maneuvering it and opening it were very clearly illustrated on the outside, allowing for quick alignment to start the process. The flaps came apart very easily (pleasant surprise), and, despite the subwoofer end being heavily taped due to its size and weight, even that portion was easily opened. Everything lifted out with no issues, although the “accessories” packet, which contained the power cables, start-up instructions, and mounting kits, almost hit the floor as the cardboard packing it was cradled in tipped ever so slightly, allowing it to fall out. The set-up process was the only part where I had some choice words that I made my poor wife suffer to hear, due to lack of clarity in the instructions. I elected to keep the soundbar on my T.V. console, rather than do a wall mount, although this may change once I upgrade my television. This eliminated a lot of the set-up process, as I didn’t have to worry about the whole hole-drilling thing. It was very nice, however, that a template was provided for marking and drilling the mounting holes. My main complaint here is that there isn’t any type of labelling, or clear instructions, on what the separate parts were for. I’m assuming they are for wall-mounting, which if that’s the case, is also impressive for the attention to detail, as some of the extra parts are rubber isolators. I’m also not sure as to whether the rear speakers are able to be wall-mounted, or even how to position them for the best sound. For the time being, I’ve kept the surround speakers attached to the soundbar. Having them magnetically attached, allowing for wireless set-up and playback, is a genius design. It also makes it extremely easy to remove and reposition whenever I’m feeling froggy. Once I made some educated decisions, however (we’ve already established I’m a smart guy), set-up was very straightforward. Make the usual HDMI connection, re-route the cabling for the new power cable, and go! Part of the process is the requirement to download the JBL One app. I saw that and inwardly groaned. Anything that requires Bluetooth and account creation and synchronization and whatnot hardly ever works, in my experience. JBL proved me wrong again. Getting the app, creating my account, and linking my soundbar was painless. Even going through the calibration of the room via speaker playback was easy. My wife thought I was being sucked through a portal to another world as she could hear the tones but didn’t understand the context. Finally, there was the payoff. The larger size of the subwoofer makes a visually arresting statement in the room, and it reproduces ridiculously low frequencies. The soundbar itself, including the attached surround speakers, reproduces a very full spectrum of sound. I don’t have to raise the volume nearly as much as I did with the old system, and it’s much clearer and fuller. It also is less of a point-source as the old system, meaning it feels (and sounds) like the sound is coming from the T.V., and not a speaker underneath. In summary, I’m glad I got this system, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering it. From the ease of set-up to what it sounds like, the JBL Bar 1000 is well worth the investment. I wish the manufacturer would have made the installation pieces a bit clearer as to what they were or what they went to, and the instructions could have been a bit clearer themselves, but it does not detract from the final outcome.

Great sound from a compact source!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The JBL - BAR 1000 7.1.4-channel soundbar offers impressive sound quality and offers a sweet trick with its battery powered detachable surround speakers. It claims 880 watts of total output power and provides satisfying bass from a 10" wireless subwoofer. The sound volume is more than adequate for my listening room although it does start to distort if you get too zealous with the volume. The unit is securely packaged and everything you need to get started is in the box (including wall mount hardware if that is your preference). The included remote is very good and gives you access to functions like calibration and volume for the rear surrounds that is absolutely necessary to fine tune the experience while in your preferred seating spot. Setup and start-up were are simple as can be thanks to the wireless connectivity for the surrounds and the subwoofer. All units synced immediately and with no fuss. The JBL One app was easy to install. It automatically connected the soundbar to my WiFi with no problems and provided a solid Bluetooth connection as well. I want to commend JBL for updating their WiFi to support the 5GHz band. Many of my home connected devices insist on running at 2.4GHz and that is getting increasingly painful and crowded. Kudos, JBL/Harman! Then the unit detected that a firmware update was needed and offered to proceed with the download and installation. I agreed and that's when the problems started. After several minutes the update announced that it had failed and wanted to know if I wanted to try again. Again, I agreed, and the update proceeded to fail repeatedly. This was regardless of whether I used the app or let the unit download directly via WiFi. So I dived into the website for support and after much searching around found the area that offered to download the latest firmware so that I could do an update via USB. The only problem - there were four different updates offered and it wasn't clear which one I needed. Furthermore, according to the documentation, the latest version was the one I already had running on the soundbar! Long story short - JBL's tech support site needs work. I did finally find someone who was able to help me and now have the latest software running. On a positive note - this device is really quite feature rich! It decodes both Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X which is exactly what I needed since I have both formats in my BluRay library. I also was able to stream music from my cellphone and was quite impressed with how the soundbar was able to fill-in and sweeten the notoriously compressed audio from the Internet. I found the sound to be balanced and the whole system punches above its weight given how compact everything is. A bit about the detachable speakers - after calibration I was very impressed at how they filled out the surround space. The volume was more than sufficient and the separation is quite impressive. The detachable/battery powered element puzzles me a bit and I can imagine future hassles. I am used to finding the sweet spot for my speakers and then leaving them in place. The need to re-dock them to recharge is going to be a bit of a hassle. Although JBL states that you can plug the rear speakers into USB chargers so that they do not have to be moved, they do not provide bricks or cables and I was unable to locate specs or a link to purchase them separately. In conclusion, I don't want to end with a negative. I am truly impressed by the sound and the feature set. This device is perfect for anyone with a smaller space or perhaps someone who rents and doesn't want to drill holes in the wall to set up surround sound. You won't be disappointed!

AWESOME Soundbar!! JBL 1000
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OMG!!!! This is the best soundbar/subwoofer JBL 1000 out there. I brought the JBL 500 first and had to take it back cause the subwoofer would not come on after 1 day use. Must have been defective. So I hooked the 1000 up easily and the sound that came out of it was AWESOME!!! Felt like I was in an imax theater. I have a 450 sq ft room and it filled the whole room. I say this is a must buy especially if you have a big room. Best Buy salesman say Sonos is the best but when I heard the Sonos compared to the JBL 1000 the 1000 sounded so much better. I truly recommend this product!!!

Definitely an awesome product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One year later, this sound bar still operates and sounds wonderful Before this purchase, JBL was a company that I had never heard of, but I will now keep an eye out for their products. It really is an awesome purchase. My mother is old, but she was shocked by the subwoofer. I simply turn it off when she is watching

Not impressed- too complicated
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always wanted a sound bar so...I made the jump. It was well packed and once I got it all unpacked, I looked for the instructions. And I looked again. And nothing. Basics on what is what but that was about it. As someone that knows nothing of these things, I was lost. This is NOT a plug and play. The detachable speakers did NOT come with charging cables but luckily I had one. So, unpacked, items placed where they need to set for now, and I start. I tried to follow instructions anywhere I could find them- youtube, website...anywhere. I could not get it. I had to have a friend set it up and he had problem! It took a couple of days top actually get it up and going but it does sound decent. It does tend to just start saying things across the display, things that make no sense but I just ignore it. In my research on how to get this to work, I discovered there are ones out there that are easier to start up and maintain. I am not happy with this but it is up and working.

Poor quality, Poor Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this soundbar about six weeks ago. It was easy to setup and gave great sound at first. Then one day we started having issues with it cutting out after about 10 minutes. Our TV gave us an error message that our hdmi connections was bad. I swapped out the hdmi cable that we were using (the included one from JBL) with one I was using in my work office and knew to be good. No change. I waited a couple of days until I had time to mess with it, and then I setup the soundbar with a different tv, same problem. I tried it with both tvs with both cables, all combinations produced the same results. After significant research online, I found that this is a common issue with JBL soundbars. The hdmi connection becomes unable to detect the sound being sent from the tv and the jbl soundbar goes into sleep mode disconnecting from the tv. The other part of the complaint is that JBL does not accept the issue is a problem and will not fix the equipment, so basically if you buy this you are likely to have a brick that sometimes works for 10 minutes or so and then cuts out. That is a very expensive 10 minutes of good sound!
