I bought it mainly to use on fishing trips and kayaking and I wanted the battery bank feature so we wouldn't have to bring a separate battery bank anymore, it's absolutely great for that. JBLs are super durable, my old one lasted 10 years and still works, I just upgraded for the battery feature.

Less battery life if you max out EQ settings. The bass is not that clear, mids and highs are ok. Good enough on bike ride mounted on frame for the size and weight.

The only thing is that the battery doesn’t last more than 3 hours on a full charge which is crazy since it should last 20. I don’t know if it is a defective speaker but I want to switch it out for a different one. I use it for working out in my basement and it barley lasts my full workout. I previously had a flip 6 but I returned that one for the charge 5 for more bass and clarity. The flip 6 was great for its size but the bass just doesn’t compare to the bigger one. I think it’s probably defective but I will switch it out hoping that’s the case.

Posted .We're sorry to hear about what happened. The playtime hours of our JBL Charge 5 depend on the volume level and music content. If the speaker doesn't last with advertised playtime hours which is 20 hours even at low to mid-volume, there's a problem with the battery of the speaker.
