You can turn off the party lights or have them on for ambience. Not sure of the battery life since it is kept plugged in to the wall outlet all of the time.

Used it for outdoor movies, music for parties and amplifying an acoustic guitar. Works great for everything I used it for and very good battery life. Make sure you have room for it if you plan on travelling with it, it is not small.
