Those plastic pieces help you fit the ear buds snug in your ear, so you can exercise and run without them falling off your ears.

Maybe make it less bulky

They come with 3 different sized ear pieces so they fit great and they also sound great with a noise cancelling option. You can also download an app to control all of the settings. I highly recommend these earbuds.
