Decent but lacks bass

Initially it’s lacking bass, I’m wondering if the speakers need to be broke in. I had to change the equalizer settings on spotify so it wouldn’t totally distort the music. With my custom settings I use for everything else, at about 60% +/- it was super distorted until I turned the lower end of the equalizer down. Gets really loud, but it’s mostly highs, and ok mids. The first time we played music (before charging but the unit said full battery) when the bass hit, the volume would lower as if it was draining the battery..
