I was told that this speaker would give me the SPL I've been looking for. That it does. No problem there. Find a place to stick them and leave them there. Oh, I said ' Them' didn't I? Your gonna want two. These boys jam. One sounds clear enough for most music, but I did detect a slight bit of distortion in the higher frequencies when cranked up to 11. When two are paired, using the JBL CONNECT app, this annoyance seems to be diminished through good placement and EQ. Not gone, but definitely reduced. When run in stereo mode, it's crazy how surrounded your music sounds. It's like you're in the middle of the session, especially jazz sets. Now, the sound is so 'in your face', you will definitely need to equalize the output. There is an monsterous bass bump in the neighborhood of 65hz, and it doesn't work that well for all music. But, it can be quieted somewhat, without loosing the overall hard driving character of this speaker; just use a good eq. Hence the need for a more or less permanent placement. A quick thought on the JBL CONNECT app. It's not the best software out there by any stretch. It is useful, but just barely. When you get your speakers, put them on a charger immediately. Both of them. Don't disconnect them from the chargers until you have completed the software installations. They will turn off and restart by themselves. Then, it will be okay to disconnect them after charging is completed. The app isn't very clear on this. Also, when switching between modes (stereo), or even just changing the volume up or down, I found that the software struggles a bit trying to apply the changes, in sync, to both speakers. It's taken as long as 15 seconds for both speakers to re-sync and resume playing. At times, both speakers are playing well, I change the volume, then one speaker immediately cuts out and it may take 5-10 seconds before they are both back in sync again. Very annoying, and it ruins a heck of a listening experience. Buy two; the stereo effect is truly amazing when it works. Battery life? Better than advertised when using two speakers because the overall volume can be turned down. JBL has a winner here. We just need to harp on them to revise their CONNECT software for better proformance.
