Even when my phone is in my pocket or within arms reach at the gym, the sound will intermittently cut out.

They hold a charge I have used them for 3 hours strait and they worked fine and pair easily, the audio quality is fine for talk podcasts but tin sounding listening to music, get what you pay for.

Although they are not a high end unit, as you already know, they should definitely produce clear enjoyable sound. Sounds like you may have received a bad pair.
