Cool Little Speaker - Worth A Look

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The JLAB Pop Party speaker is a small Bluetooth enabled wireless speaker. It is meant to be as portable as possible and not break the bank. At this price point it is certainly worth a look. I have owned quite a few JLAB products, and I have yet to use one that I wouldn’t buy again, so hopefully that trend continues with the Pop Party.
Design
The Pop Party is a compact 5W Bluetooth speaker that measures in around 4”x3”x1.75” – which is small enough for me to toss in my pocket. The speaker firm mesh grill on the front with the JLAB logo while the back carries the single passive radiator. The speaker has a cool rubber loop that slots in to a groove on top of the speaker for easy attaching and removal. The back of the speaker also has 2 decently strong magnets that are rubberized so they won’t cause any scratches. The front has a white border of glossy plastic, which is where the lightshow comes from. This plastic ring lights up completely and has 6 different LED sequence modes included a rainbow RGB wave, and a mode the bounces the light with the beat of the song. You can also toggle the light off for better battery life. The battery has an 8hr capacity, but it is cut to 5 if the LEDs are on. Around the bottom edge is the single button for the device as well as the charging port cover. Charging is done via USB-C, and the package includes a cable if you needed one.
The single button is thankfully multi-functional but it can’t control everything. Volume controls are handled on your playback device (phone). However, the button can play/pause with one press, and skip to the next track with a 2sec hold. A double press cycles through the LED modes and a triple press cycles through the EQ’s. The EQ’s are JLAB Signature, Balanced, Bass Boost, and Custom. If you happen to pick up a second (or more) you can press 5x to sync the Pop Party speakers to each other. If you download the JLAB app you can modify these controls and change their defaults, which is really nice. Inside the app is also where you can modify the custom EQ to your liking. You can also modify the lighting settings – speed and brightness for each setting are available to mess with.
The specs on the speaker are a little muddy. The JLAB website lists an IP55 rating (some water and dust resistance). Best Buy’s website lists it as IPX5 which is just light water protection – either way it should hold up to being caught in the rain or splashed by the sink, but it won’t like being submerged. I also can’t tell what version of Bluetooth it is using – I would assume it is a newer standard based on the ability to link 100 Pop Party speakers together. I can also get about 40ft away before I start dropping the connection, so that’s within the range of the newer Bluetooth standards.
Sound
Sound quality out of this little speaker is a lot better than I would have expected. It gets plenty loud and it has a decent little thump for base. Larger speakers with 2 passive radiators certainly get louder with more bass, but that’s not a guarantee of better sound. The Pop delivers a decent sound experience. Highs are pretty good – they can’t get really crisp because of the single speaker setup, but they sound good. Mids are in the same boat, but again don’t come off sounding bad at all. Honestly it’s a good sounding little speaker. Again, at this price point it is really punching above its weight class.
Overall
I think the JLAB Pop Party is an awesome little speaker. It has great sound for its price. Battery life is solid at 8hrs, and even 5hrs with the lights on isn’t too bad. I am a fan of the RGB LED’s, so I think it looks pretty cool. The magnetic feet are great – I have stuck it to the side of my fridge while cooking dinner and stuck it to my metal outdoor table for a firepit night. Its nice know that it won’t go rolling away like my pill-shaped speakers like to. Honestly if you want or need a little speaker to keep around, the Pop Party won’t disappoint you.

Tiny size, mighty punch

This is a hand sized party pack. As shown in my image below, it is smaller than a dollar bill in length, but this thing packs a punch for its size. Then you have the LED patterns, which you can mostly customize through the JLab app, that really make it like a little palm sized party. Then, to top it off even more, if you have more than one, apparently up to 100, you can sync them to the same device. I can only imagine how wild that would end up sounding with that many. I have two and having stereo speakers wherever you want them is fun.
It has a small rubber loop on the top that can be partially detached so you can loop it around items, like the handlebars of your bicycle. It has rubber pads on the bottom so it doesn’t slide off of most surfaces and it is magnetic, so you can stick it to the fridge or something. However, the magnet isn’t all that strong, so I wouldn’t trust it on anything moving. The passive subwoofer on the bottom does make for different sounds depending on the material it is sitting on, like putting it on a metal trash can was interesting. However, through the app is where you can tweak the sound even better with the predefined EQ settings or custom.
There is only 1 button on this speaker which is kind of a disadvantage. Since there is no volume rocker, the speaker relies on the source for volume control. So, if you do have multiple speakers, you can’t just turn one down. You can however change that single button for three different functions based on the number of taps. By default it is play/pause for 1, cycle lights for 2 and cycle EQ presets for 3 taps. Holding it will power it off/on and even longer for pairing. You can change the button to control track or volume, but tapping the button multiple times to step the volume of the Bluetooth source just makes you rather find your phone and turn it down there. With multiple speakers, each speaker has its own controls, but only the main one controls the source as the commands of the other only affects it, till the source is changed again, like volume.
The battery life is about 5 hours with the lights on, but you can continue playing while it is plugged up. This time can be extended if you leave the lights off and it varies pending volume and cast a bit. While casting, you can assign speakers to be Left, Right or “Stereo”, but it is just a single speaker, so it is just playing both channels in one. You can also choose to sync the lights, so all speakers show the same patterns, or let them all do their own. The lights patterns are synced, but the actual effect will have its own timing per speaker. As for the lighting, you can change a fair bit of the colors, but there are some that will inject their own color regardless of your choices. Something that might change with future firmware or software updates, so make sure it is up to date through the app.
This is only rated IP55, so it is safe enough for casual splashes from rain, or by the pool side. It would probably be fine even if dropped in water and recovered. However, not really meant to be submerged in water.
Overall, this is a fun little speaker with a lot of sound for its size. Using the app to customize it and getting additional speakers really amps it up.

I've had a speaker of this size for quite a while that I've used and I was definitely due for an upgrade. Thankfully Jlab had just what I was looking for. Specifically, that was a decent speaker at a good price with a USB-C port that sounds larger than its size and has good connectivity with the Bluetooth and great battery life. This pop party speaker hits all those marks and then some.
I noticed there is pads on the speaker looking side of it to have it sitting on a table or something to give it some air gap for bass, so while in use I noticed it sounds way better when you have it either sitting on a desk or up against the wall. In my pictures I'm included I show that I am using it while I wash dishes and I have it on a hook to where that speaker sits against the wall and it actually vibrates it so much with the bass that it makes it sound REALLY good like its a big big speaker but its small enough to be in your pocket. This is just one of the tricks ive found while in use
When you first pair it it's as simple as selecting it in your bluetooth device list on your phone or other device and the volume is always controlled by your device not on the speaker. After the first pairing you can hold the power button for about eight seconds to pair with another device. The strap can be slid out horizontally so you can put it around your belt loop or a cabinet handle or anything else you can think of that fits.
The app has really cool options in there for animations for the lighting which has LEDs around the perimeter that are RGB, there is a three preset EQ or you can set it to your custom once. You can sync this with up to 100 other Jlab speakers lol which is wild. If you do this you can select left or right channel to make it into a surround sound type situation. There is also options for battery saver and to power off after a certain amount of time along with turning the lights off when the battery gets to a certain percentage, all kinds of things.
Mainly the thing I care about though is the fact that it sounds great, can sound better on a wooden surface to vibrate, gets loud, has good controls, great connection for long range and the battery lasts a comparable amount of time to any other one out there (hours and hours) and I have no complaints. This is an excellent value for the money.

The JLab Pop Party portable speaker has more features than many of the top-of-the-line speakers out there, for a fraction of the price.
It seems like tech in not only getting more expensive lately, but the quality of the products has been lacking as well. Then I got my hands on this little gem, the JLab Pop Party. This speaker has so much to offer, in such a small package, and for a very reasonable price. The build quality of the speaker is very solid. The speaker is encased in a thick plastic shell, with a hard cloth mesh on the front. There is a rubber loop that allows you to hang the speaker. There is a decent sized LED strip around the speaker that has many different color options. On the back of the speaker you find there is a small, yet solid woofer. The speaker is waterproof and has a USB C charging port on the bottom. One of my favorite features is the speaker has 2 built in magnets on the back of it, that lets you mount it to metal surfaces.
The sound quality is much better than I expected. The speaker gets pretty loud and has a decent range of highs and lows. There are 4 different EQ settings, 3 preprogrammed and 1 custom. With the JLab app you are able to customize the speaker in many different ways. You can set custom lighting, you change the functions of the button, set a custom EQ, and much more. If you have 2 or more speakers, you can set them as stereo left and right speakers in what’s called LabSync mode.
The battery life on the speaker is actually really good. Depending on how you use it (LED on/Off and brightness) your battery will last longer or shorter. So far, I was able to get about 7hrs of play time and my battery still has a little juice.
Overall, I am very impressed with the JLab Pop Party speaker. The speaker offers so many features such as LED lights, waterproof, great build quality, magnets built-in, not to mention decent sound quality all for incredible price. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a portable speaker.

A Portable Party in the Palm of Your Hand

My son and I absolutely love this JLab Pop Party Speaker. Because it was so inexpensive, I thought it would be just another average portable speaker with tinny sound and mid RGB lighting. I can admit it, I was completely wrong. This speaker is awesome! ...It actually is pretty FANTASTIC! And the price is incredible.
Note: Make sure that you use Best Buy's price match guarantee and you'll save even more off of the already great price.
The speaker fits in the palm of my toddler sized hands, but sounds really good. Battery life is great and the LED lighting is rich, vivid, and customizable. The build quality is solid and because it's water proof, it can be used in the shower, in the rain, or at the pool. The rubber loop on the top is easy to use, but also strong enough to hang the speaker with no chance of it falling off. The internal magnets also do an impressive job at holding the speaker to any metal surface. Mount it on the pole while playing basketball, or stick it right to a car door. This thing's not going anywhere.
There is absolutely no doubt that this thing punches well above its weight class. What's rad is that the Pop Party can be synched to 99 other Pop Party Speakers. I can't imagine anyone being able to pull this off, but it would be truly epic!
The only disappointment is that the speaker only has one button that is used for all functions. I would much prefer to have individual Play/Pause, Forwards, Backwards, Volume +/- buttons. But, at this price I really can't complain. The speaker sounds great, it's portable, it's easy to use, has great battery life, charges with USB-C, and is all around fun to use.
Get one. Take it everywhere you go. And, have fun.

## Design
The JLAB Pop Speaker lives up to its name with a fun design and built-in LED lighting that reacts to your music. It’s small enough to toss in a bag for travel, and the included strap makes it easy to hang from a backpack or even a tree branch for small outdoor gatherings.
While the speaker can stand upright, it’s not the most stable and is more secure when laid flat on a desk or table. The light show definitely adds a party vibe, though it can also be a bit distracting if you’re trying to use it while working or studying.
The LEDs themselves are customizable in the JLAB app, where you can tweak brightness, change animation styles, and thankfully adjust the speed of the effects. If you’d rather save battery (or your eyes), you can turn them off completely.
## Performance
For a speaker at this price point, the JLAB Pop Speaker delivers surprisingly powerful bass. It’s one of the stand out feature, giving beats and low-end tracks plenty of punch.
However, the mids are less defined, which sometimes results in a slightly “muddy” sound, where vocals and instruments don’t always cut through as cleanly as they do on pricier models. Highs can be a little sharp at times. That said, overall sound quality is still very good for the price, and it’s more than capable of filling a small room or enhancing a casual get-together.
Compared to the JBL Go 4, the Pop Speaker has noticeably deeper bass, while the JBL offers a cleaner mid-range. Which you’ll prefer comes down to whether you value thumping low-end or more balanced clarity.
## Controls and App Features
The Pop speaker only has one button. Out of the box, this button can’t control volume; you’ll need to adjust the volume on your phone. Thankfully, the JLAB app allows you to customize button functions, like setting a double-tap to lower volume or triple-press to rewind tracks.
This customization is a nice touch, especially for a budget speaker, and it adds flexibility that you don’t often see at this price point. Still, some dedicated volume and rewind/forward buttons would have been nice.
## Battery Life
Battery life on the JLAB Pop Speaker varies depending on how you use it. With the LEDs off and volume kept reasonable, you can get up to 8 hours of playback on a charge. If you’re running the light show, expect closer to 5 hours.
That’s not the longest runtime in the portable speaker market, but it's adequate for an afternoon gathering or for study sessions.
## Summary
The JLAB Pop Speaker is a great little budget speaker that packs some bass, customizable LED lights, and some customization features via a dedicated phone app. While the mids could use more clarity and some more physical buttons would have been nice, it’s still an impressive value at this price point.

Jlab is known for budget friendly options and this portable speakers is a perfect example. They don’t ask a high price for most of their products. While this is great for the budget minded folks, it comes at a cost(literally). And that cost is sound quality unfortunately in my opinion. For me I prefer sound quality over any thing else even at this affordable price point. Sound is just ok, not great but not bad for the most part. It just lacks any solidness or well roundedness. Kinda muddy and slightly tinny even with the passive radiator on the back of the speakers. It’s not the end of the world for the majority of people looking at this price point but I want to be honest and I ask yall to keep your expectations in check when getting this cool looking speaker. It’s just ok but still worth the retail price, moreso when on sale. Now what I do love it the lighting because I decided to get this solely for my time In The shower(silly I know lol). I like to play music every time I shower and I’ve done this for about 15+ years. It just makes showering fun and enjoyable. So I keep the restroom lights off and let the light go to the beat(see pics). It’s lighting is cool in the sense that it’s like an active equalizer. This is water proof and comes with a loop that can be undone to wrap around anything with about a 1 inch diameter, it’s very nifty and works well and doesn’t feel like it will come undone at all. Battery life is actually pretty good as well. I shower about 2-3 times a day for about 15 mins. And it’s still at “medium battery level” after 5 days. The speaker will tell you the level. Very cool as well. It’s light weight and fits in the hand well if you plan to take with you. Overall it’s great for the price with cool lights. But if you really care about sound you should opt for the next level up which I believe jlab has prices around 59$ I’m sure that speaker has better sound quality.

This is a great little speaker! I love that it’s compact and just doesn’t take up a lot of space. The sound quality is great, don’t let the small size and low price point fool you. The lights are fun, but I guess I’m not fun anymore. I just want this speaker to give me audio without the lights. In the JLab app you can turn the light feature on or off, which is nice as using the lights does use battery life. Also in the app is an equalizer. There are three preset equalizer modes and you can customize your own sound as well. You can also customize the light show, pretty much everything about it can be customized.
The silicone loop on top is openable so you can attach it to other things like a backpack. Also there is a magnet on the back so you can just stick it onto any ferromagnetic metal surface. I like that feature when using this speaker in my home gym. You can connect up to 100 of these or other JLab LPop Party speakers if you want, and the lights will be synced up. Then you would definitely be more fun than me. The speaker is also waterproof, so that means no worries about pool parties and all of those fun situations.
The speaker was easy to pair up to my iPhone and my iPad. It doesn’t seem that it can be paired to two different devices at once, so that is the only thing I wish it could do. I used it with my iPhone and thought I could just switch to the iPad but I had to disconnect it before using it with the iPad.
Going back to the app, there is an ambient sounds feature that is pretty cool. There are 9 different sounds to choose from like rain, waves, fan, etc. So it’s also a background noise machine. Also in the app, there is a feature overview that covers everything about using this little Pop Party speaker. This is a very user-friendly speaker.

JLab - Pop Party Speaker. This brilliantly colorful, soap-bar-sized speaker and light show from JLAB is a serious contender in the carry-around speaker category. I love having music available to give my more mundane tasks a background soundtrack. Yeah, I like quiet moments, too, but my shower time can become tedious. Chores are, well, a chore if I’m alone and unable to isolate myself behind earbuds. And, then, there are those times I want some music when I’m away from home, but a large music box is too much to add to my other stuff. This JLAB POP PARTY is the perfect solution.
FEATURES: After syncing to my phone, I thought I’d have to learn all those operating controls to unlock the many features hiding in the POP PARTY. After you use the single button to turn on the speaker, there are as many as 3 presses allowed to either Play/Pause, Cycle Lights, Switch the EQ, or, with a long press, shut it off. I’m not a big fan of one-button-does-it-all, and I looked for a more predictable set of controls.
And, there definitely is so much more. I almost missed the page of the very small Quick Start Guide showing that the JLAB App also links to and fully manages this speaker. In fact, you can forget all those one-button controls and rely exclusively on the very nicely designed app to fine-tune the performance of the light show. There are also preset EQUALIZER settings and even a CUSTOM setting with a 10-band equalizer. NOT a typo. Ten-band equalization! You can link multiple Pop Party speakers. From here, you can disable the light show entirely or disable the VOICE PROMPTS. There is a BATTERY SAVER setting that establishes when to power down the LIGHT LEDS after a set amount of idle time and/or when the battery is too low.
PERFORMANCE: I feel a need to be respectful of the physical limitations imposed by science when I say this: JLAB PARTY POP can deliver a big-sounding, space-filling, musically satisfying performance. Using the Party Pop in a smaller space predictably improves the sound. There appears to be a speaker aiming forward and a long-travel passive woofer in the back panel. This is a rugged speaker that will tolerate demanding volume levels while still sounding musical. If you add a second JLAB Party speaker, you can use the app to create a two-channel system. Or, add up to 100 speakers, and the LabSynch feature links them all.
The POP PARTY is IPX5 waterproof and can attach to things with the permanently attached loop handle or embedded magnets.
RECOMMENDATION: The PARTY POP is lots of fun in a deceptively small package that plays bigger and far more colorfully than you’d ever expect. Music stays pleasing, and the light show is visually striking. It’s irresistible if you want to bring music wherever you’re going. It will fit in a jacket pocket.

I got this speaker because it was a good price and it's versatility. I am going to use this mainly in my utility cart and have it hang from a cross bar in it, which it does nicely. This does have magnets to attach to a metal surface, and they seem to hold well when I tested it on my fridge. The price point on this is good and what made it stand apart from others in this sector us my previous experience with JLab. I knew sound would be more than adequate. It connected very easily with my jlab app I use with other headphones. This advertised on the box, and easy to download. The speaker has like 3 built in eq settings without the app you can toggle. The app allows you to create your own equilizer setting, or just use one of their pre made settings the jlab signature one is pretty good out of the box. This app also allows you to change the pattern and colors of the lights. About a dozen or so settings on that. I will add a photo of the 10 bar eq and the color settings. This does not take up much space at all and I've played it off and on for to 6 hours, but never ran it completely dead. Bluetooth connected easily and it found my app without issued and did an update right away of the firmware. For the size, it is plenty loud. This does not have an aux port. The price on this is great. I cannot comment enough about how jlab is really stepping it up with good price items that work well. I hope this has a good lifespan also. My oldest jlab earbuds are 2 years old and still doing well. I hope this will do well also I highly reccomend this.

Who knew a twenty-five-dollar speaker could be so impressive? The JLab Pop Party speaker is fun. You can attach it to handlebars or slap it on a fridge. Audio quality is surprisingly good for a speaker of this size and price point. I like it. My kids like it. After a few days of heavy use, I think I can easily recommend the JLab Pop Party speaker.
Setup: JLab includes the speaker, a QuickStart guide, and a charging cable. The speaker has a USB-C connection. You will need the JLab application on your phone or tablet to customize the speaker’s EQ, lights, and to update the firmware. There is a firmware update for the speaker out of the box. From that point, the JLab application is straightforward. I had no problems customizing the lighting or the equalizer.
Experience: The speaker has a two-inch woofer on the back and a two-inch driver on the front. The audio experience is surprisingly good for a speaker at this size and price point. Lights are very bright.
Battery life will depend on volume levels and whether RGB lights are on. I was able to listen to my pandora station for an entire afternoon before the speaker got to low.
I loved that I could easily hook the speaker to a towel rod or slap it on the fridge and have it stay in place.
My only nitpick is the multi-function button. Trying to click a button a certain number of times to achieve a different function has never worked that well for me, but I admit this is my personal nitpick.
It is difficult to nitpick a speaker at this price point. It works well. I love the lighting. You could get several Pop Party speakers and pair them together. Overall, I am sold. I plan to pick up a few more. I can easily recommend the JLab Pop Party speaker.

JLab Pop Party Speaker Is a surprisingly affordable Bluetooth portable speaker while still maintaining a very good sound with some bass and a few features. One of those features is that as you can see from pictures it lights up. You can change the pattern of the RGB lights by pressing a button that’s located underneath the speaker. There’s different patterns, including one that lights up according to the beat of the song.
It also has magnets in the back so that you can attach this speaker to something metal like a refrigerator for example. I believe you can connect up to 100 of these devices to play music at the same time, while no one is crazy enough to do that, it’s pretty cool that you can connect a whole bunch of these and place them around the room or the party or wherever.
It’s surprising how loud this little speaker can get, it sounds pretty good and for the price honestly, it’d be hard to find something better. They look cool, they are by no means cheap in terms of quality, and they are just fun to have around.

great speaker for the price. Very good sound for the size. it is a little bit bigger than I expected and quite a bit heavier. the magnets are a great feature, but unfortunately they're not strong enough to keep the heavy speaker from sliding down to the ground, especially when the bass starts booming. I also wish it had controls for volume on the case. you can set the one button it has to control volume with a different number of presses BUT you have to have the Jlab app to do that. the app also lets you set the equalizer, and to program the lights to your your own preferences for color, intensity & speed.

Let me start out by saying this little speaker exceeded all exceptions.
Setup: Connecting the JLab Pop Party speaker is simple, I powered it on and phone automatically connected to it. No app needed, no fuss no muss. The Pop Party only has one button which is used to navigate the speaker incase you don’t want to download the app. Using the single button worked as instructed and JLab lays out how to use it in the little package provided.
App: The App for the Pop Party is perfect, its laid out well and everything is available within a tap or two. The App allows a few different adjustment that can’t be done with the single button, you can remap how the controls work and updating the firmware, so technically you don’t really need the app. If you have 2 of these speakers you can even use it as a stereo pairing, along with allowing you to add 99 more speakers Party speakers from JLab.
Sound: The sound for the Pop Party is really good, the vocals are great and the low’s sound wonderful. There is no distortion when you increase the volume all the way. Now the Pop Party does not have a 360 sound but sounds great even when your not directly in front of it.
Battery life: Now the battery life is rated over 8 hours without the RGB and 5 with the RGB on and so far I have seen battery loss at about 10 percent every 25 mins or so with the RGB so the figures from JLab are spot on. I did notice without the RGB I was getting about 10 % loss every hour.
To put it simply this is a great little speaker, it give your everything you want/need from a portable speaker. Its portable with the loop strap that allows you to take it anywhere and the IPX5 waterproofing give you peace of mind in case it gets wet. This added with the fact that you can add 99 more devices and sync them is unique and could allow you to have a party pop up wherever you are.

Well worth the value. Clear and loud. Subwoofer on bottom.
