The Joby Compact Action tripod is a fine unit. I have used a full-size, more conventional tripod for a number of years now, and it is also an excellent tripod that has served me well. I was attracted to the Joby because of its smaller packed size, and it can definitely fit into a smaller space than my current tripod. When folded and placed in it its convenient storage bag, at 20 inches, it is no more than about half the length of my current one. This is a great advantage when traveling by plane as it is small enough to pack in a suitcase or even a carry-on. I do much of my photography on the road, so this size advantage is very important to me. As a tripod, it is fine. With the legs fully retracted and the camera mast lowered all the way, it stands about 18 inches tall. With legs fully extended and the camera mast raised all the way, it stands about 62 inches, so overall a wide range of heights is available. The tripod has both still image and video “settings,” wherein the latter locks the tripod into panning only left and right, which makes recording video easier as the camera always stays level during panning. In the still image mode, panning in all dimensions is possible. There is, of cousre, a level bubble. One feature I especially like is the camera-mount’s pistol-grip, which makes controlling the camera both precise and comfortable at the same time. Locking the tripod in any position is accomplished with a thumbwheel right on the grip, so this is a one-hand operation. Again, this is very convenient. Another useful feature is an attachment that allows mounting a camera that does not have a mounting screw hole on the bottom. This makes it possible to mount a cell-phone camera as the jaws are spring-loaded and adjustable. Overall, this is a great tripod, and I think it will replace the one I had been using as the Joby is capable of anything my prior tripod could do while adding some extra capabilities. Highly recommended.

This Joby tripod truly is a comprehensive solution that will satisfy your photography & videography needs. I love the adjustable height. The support for mounting accessories is spectacular. It is very well designed and durable. It's easy to travel with, light enough to transport even if traveling on foot, or bicycle. It is a fantastic tripod and I highly recommend it! Your photography sessions will be much more enjoyable.

This JOBY Compact Action Smart tripod was what my son wanted for his start to vlogging and making YouTube videos. His computer screen was never aligned right, so getting this camera mount tripod was the perfect solution. His favorite YouTube stars have big DSLR cameras and this can fit most of them. If it has a big lens, it may tip over, as it can only hold 3.3 lbs. For his needs, it works perfectly, but if I'm taking family portraits outdoors, I'm not so sure this would stand on any windy day. With that said, how often will you take pics on a windy day, right? The handle with a level is nice for setting up, and he can tell if it is level. The space it needs is not quite easy to fit on his desk though. It has a handle that sticks out the back. However that handle helps get some great action on-the-move scenes. It is easier to hold it steady. There is an additional microphone mount and light that you can get, but it doesn't come with this. I saw the pictures and it has them sort of see through, so that means not included, not that they fit here and are optional. It is nice and tall, about 5'-1" in height and however tall you camera is. The cell phone is mainly what this tripod will be used for, so the fact that it can be twisted 90 degrees from panoramic to landscape without taking it off is great. For a beginner, kids, action use, or vlogging, this action tripod is a great solution without breaking the bank.

I've always had the freebie or inexpensive tripods and when I got a chance to use this one, I jumped at the chance. This tripod can handle a smaller DSLR but I normally use it for phones. The only reason I'd use the DSLR nowdays is for high quality macro photography, where you need a steady tripod to take the capture you want. As for using it for phone, it is a bit overkill but it works just so well! There is no clear instructions to follow but you get the gist of it after using it for a few minutes. The expansion of the legs to using it on a table, both is well done in deploying. The grip handle is the main reason I wanted to get this version to have more control of the shot. Another great feature is that you can drop the tripod to do an overhead shot if set it up tall enough. It is very well thought out to me and I can see myself using this in various situations. The carrying bag or pouch is pretty cool too. It seems padded and also I can only put it back in one way. With the legs up. Other than the instructions, this is a pretty well made tripod. I would recommend this, especially for up and coming content creators on social networking.

The Joby Compact Action Tripod is a sturdy, easy to use tripod. It has a solid, sturdy construction, but is still light and compact enough to travel with easily. It is a full size tripod, which at it's smallest is about 17 inches, and at it's talles is 61 inches. So it is very versatile. It features quick release mechanisms for adjusting height which work very well. It also has a quick connect attachment for your camera, which again, works extremely well. Adjustments are easy and intuitive, and the pistol grip makes panning your camera really simple. It has a wheel lock which is easily locked and unlocked with your thumb that way you can quickly make an adjustment and then lock it in place, all with one hand. There is also a bubble level that way you can make sure everything is nice and level. Lastly, they include a phone adapter which fits a smart phone nice and securely to the tripod, and also features 2 cold shoe mounts for accessories like microphones and lights. In conclusion, this is a really well made tripod which is simple to set up and adjust and includes lots of well thought out features. Definitely recommend.

There is only so much smaller tripods, and mobile goosenecks could do. At first glance the Joby Compact looks like any other tripod but at a closer look, you can tell that Joby had put a lot into this design with their users in mind. It's pretty lightweight compared to other tripods out there and is pretty sturdy. But with that said, I wouldn't recommend using it with telephoto lens as the weight of the lens would not balance well. But as your everyday tripod, I'd highly recommend it. Day to day, I take some still photos, vlog about my day-to-day, or document my creative pro. Having a steady tripod with an option to mount my phone was one of the highlights. One minor thing that did bug me about the phone mount was that it wasn't anything extraordinary - your typical pull to latch the phone to the support. Compared to the rest of the tripod, that part felt pretty cheap and could use a little more TLC. As for the rest of the tripod, there is a quick-release mechanism for adjusting the height, scroll wheel to lock positions, and overall maneuvering the tripod is pretty simple and doesn't strain your hands. There's also a built-in leveler. As for the travel bag that it comes with, it's pretty sturdy. However, there are some mine tweaks I would love to see: a separate shoulder string or thicker drawstring so that when I do put it on my shoulders, the string won't dig into my skin—an additional side pocket or inside the bag to separate the phone mount. At the moment, you just throw both the tripod and the mount in the bag, which worries me about potential damage in the future. But other than those minor things, I'd say that the quality of the tripod does meet the price, and I would recommend it!

The key advantage of this tripod is its compact nature. It is small enough to carry on a bicycle which is how I used it a lot. The strength of the tripod is medium as there is a tradeoff for strength versus weight and also the ability to go from about 18 inches to well over 60 inches. It comes with a super nice carry bag with a nylon cord that is big enough to sling the unit over your back for hiking. It's lighter weight was also a benefit when hiking with it. The clasps to keep it section connected together are very strong and work flawlessly. I found its included cell phone adapter to be unique and very useful. It also has the standard camera attachment. I feel it would be a great accessory for a small camera as well as most cell phones if you want to take recreational videos/snapshots. It would not be your best choice for a heavy video camera – that’s not its wheel house. I would recommend it highly for usage in your living room, back yard parties or for when you might want a tripod that you could also easily carry along when hiking or cycling. Great product and very nice design.

The main feature which drew me to this Joby Compact Action Tripod was the trigger-like grip, which is so very different than any other tripod feature I've seen. And it did not disappoint! This tripod can be set up and put away quickly for true on-the-go 'action'. Which is a welcome difference when comparing this Joby versus what I consider to be the more "cumbersome" traditional tripods I'm familiar with. The tripod is super portable and compact, fitting neatly into the padded carrying pouch. The included phone mount "ratchet" swivels for use in landscape or portrait mode. The mount held my phone securely with no problem. This Joby Action Tripod is fun and functional. Exceptionally lightweight, yet sturdy. Although I'm not confident the tripod would be able to withstand a strong gust of wind and remain still and upright. What more can I say? It's a Joby. And this Compact Action Tripod exemplifies the brand, with the quality and performance they are synonamous with. The cost of this awesome tripod is pretty darn sweet, too!

First off I have many Joby products and this is the new travel tri-pod in my bag (with a few minor things) 1. light and easy to carry 2. has great travel when adjusting tilt and pan 3. easy one handed movement with "thumb" wheel. 4. epic length adjustment with each leg having 2 quick release snaps. 5. ability to tilt to landscape or portrait with simple front button press. 6. bubble level to make your shots spot on flat and easy to look at. 7.handy bag to carry it in 8. extra phone holder 9. quick release for camera attachment so you don't have to unscrew the camera each time you pack it up or want to swap out for another device. Now for the things I wish were better. 1. unable to lock in the X and Y axis for smooth movement during filming. once the thumb screw it loosened it will go all kinds of directions until you tighten it back up again. 2.bottom of unit does not have stabilizer bar, so if fully extended it will wobble with each breeze you encounter. So good for inside, but not so good for outside unless you only use first leg extension. 3. getting it out and back into the bag is a test of one's patients. needs bigger opening and all will be great. So as it stands, I will really enjoy this for content creation inside my studio or on special occasions outside. I do like the build much better than the others, but still has room for improvement. I am giving this a 4 star review and have faith they will correct the slight amount of things it will take to make it perfect.

JOBY makes some truly awesome tripod accessories (my first was the Gorillamobile for my iPhone). In this case, they've made a comprehensive tripod with tons of versatility and stability without significant weight. The adjustment handle and buttons make everything so simple to get just the right shot. The removable mobile attachment fits a wide variety of phones and also holds extra attachments as needed. Structurally, the whole thing feels very stable even with light devices (like an iPhone or a Mevo - I tested both) while also maintaining a high degree of adjustability. The telescoping legs have tension levers instead of knobs and the center column allows for vertical adjustments. The upper adjustment is a full 360-degree connector with a pistol grip so you can easily align exactly the shot you want QUICKLY. This has quickly become my favorite tripod for any sort of on-the-go shot. It's lightweight, FAST to adjust, and can handle moderate bumps without tipping over.

I’ve been a fan of the GorillaPod line from Joby for a while, but have held off on getting a full-size tripod because I figured it would be a pain to carry around something heavy and/or bulky. I was really glad to see that the Joby Compact Action Tripod collapses down to a very manageable size, and is also fairly lightweight despite being able to support up to 1.5 kg weight. I really appreciate the quick-release plate. It’s so easy to snap the camera on and off of the tripod. I also like that I can pick up a second plate from Joby and be able to switch easily between cameras. Finally, the included smart-phone holder makes this tripod even more versatile. Using the tripod is comfortable and intuitive. There’s a clever toggle switch to go between photo and video mode (the former allows free motion, while the latter has a guide to limit tilt while allowing other movement). Overall, I’m happy to add the Joby Compact Action tripod to my kit.

I absolutely love this tripod! Fully extended this is well over 5' 6" off the ground. You can adjust any way you like to get the perfect shot. Tilt, angle, height, leg length even for uneven ground and very important to have the bubble level built in. Using it as a monopod, as a 6' 4" man, I did not need to bend to see the display on my digital camera nor my phone. Same hold true using as a tripod. This is a very well built and designed tripod. Most importantly, you don't need to fight with it to make adjustments. They all seen to make sense without thinking about it at all. I do not have one bad thing to say about this tripod, little things just make even more impressive. There was an included cell phone holder that easily attached to the tripod. It is also well designed and will hold even the largest phones on the market. I actually found the phone adapter after I had already used the tripod twice. Check the bag!

I’ve found this to be an excellent tripod and I love the pistol grip for panning on wide landscape shots. It’s very smooth. The tension adjustment for the ball head is a roller located on that same pistol grip which is very convenient for adjustments on the fly for panning and tilting. The Quick release plate is compatible with other Joby tripods. The tripod feels very well built and durable as well as very stable at any length. It extends just past 5 ft, which for me at 6ft tall puts the head right at my chin add the camera and is absolutely the perfect height. It also feels pretty lightweight and collapses down to 17inches to make it a great on the go tripod. Over all I am very happy with my new tripod.

Versatile and functional is two things that come to mind with this tripod. I like to use my tripods and move them around and in different elements. The Joby Compact action Tripod lives up those those wants. It’s build very solid and allows for many attachments. The nice thing about this tripod is it can take all the attachments and deliver a versatile camera holder on the go. In closing this tri pod shines for YouTube videos and streaming as it allows you to get that perfect angle.

Sturdy tripod adjustable height. Good for self portraits to take digitals for my modeling.
