A grim fable that's anything but a joke

That anyone walks away from JOKER believing it celebrates the title character's antics is befuddling. The music alone is telling half the story here, and every cue from Hildur Guðnadóttir's haunting score is a clear-as-day hint this is not a man to be admired or emulated. Only in Arthur Fleck's demented imagination is this about the rise of a superstar; for everyone else, it's an express elevator into psychological hell, with Joaquin Phoenix's thespianic godhood at the helm.

-This is going to be quick. It's an original story about the Joker's origin. It takes inspiration from "The Killing Joke" though a little, "The Man who Laughs" (1928) and "The King of Comedy" (1983). Joaquin Phoenix's performance is outstanding! His journey from sane to insanity was beautiful though sad. You get to understand why he becomes the Joker in the end. It's an original take so give it a shot.

Joaquin Phoenix is simply AMAZING as the "Joker". Very well acted by him as well as Robert De Niro. This film played out much differently than your typical good vs evil plot. People can ONLY be pushed so far before they become a "ticking time bomb" ready to unleash absolute madness into the society that has rejected them. Highly recommend this brilliant film. There's a few scenes that will even catch you by surprise too.

So first off, wow. This entire movie kept throwing curveballs left and right! Definitely not something to show your kids at night! Overall this movie had me on the edge of my seat, and I enjoyed every second of it for how it presented a stand alone origin story for the Joker. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is in the mood for a dark story or those who’re into villains in the superhero genre

The Origin Story We've Been Waiting For*

Joker gives its infamous central character a chillingly plausible origin story that serves as a brilliant showcase for its star -- and a dark evolution for comics-inspired cinema. Led by Joaquin Phoenix's ferocious, feral performance, this especially dark, gritty comic book movie is a character drama that's drawn more toward real-world troubles than to capes and crusading. Joker begs for a hero. It gives us a clown. Gotham seeks salvation and finds only blood.

This film is in in my Top Ten movies of all time (probably the Top 4). Phoenix delivers a powerhouse performance, exuding pathos while giving the viewer an understanding of how someone in his position could fall so far so quickly. The story is well written and I tend to watch the film 2-4 times a year since it's come out (more the first year).

Joaquin Phoenix was amazing. Seeing this depiction, while not too true to comics, was truly an entertaining experience. It takes one of the most truly sinister antagonists in Gotham lore and makes him someone you can semi sympathize with at times. While deemed too violent for some, I felt if you could get past that, its following of the titular character really shows a gritty transformation that truly gives drives to an already-iconic character.

This movie sticks with you. It's the kind of movie that you'll be thinking about long after you watch it for the first time. While there are certainly some over-the-top moments, it's obvious that this movie exists in a heightened reality (I mean, it's a comic book movie). Phoenix's performance is mindblowing. This movie is iconic, and I think in the future people will look back and see it as one of the greatest comic book movies of all time.

Watched JOKER last night and what a difference from all other renditions of the Joker character. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing in this role. I my opinion it is an Academy Award winning performance. If this were the beginning of a new DC universe moving to the darker, grittier, 'R-rated' side of the characters, then DC could finally rival Marvel. Highly recommended to everyone who loves a great, hard hitting performance that will put you on the edge.

Forget what you know about this character from comics, or other movies. This is not the big budget action movie. More of a Hitchcock type of movie, and or an M. Night Shyamalan. If that is something you like, you should enjoy this picture. The only bad thing I can say about it is, now that I've seen it, I won't be pulling it out of its case for awhile. Its a dark movie, and I won't be viewing it with the frequency of a Avengers, or a Bond film.

I heard many people left the theaters during this movie. The violence is simple and low-key compared to other popular movies nowadays. That said, this movie was hard to watch from an empathy standpoint as it focuses on watching a cruel world slowly peel away layer after layer of sanity from an innocent person just trying to survive, then labeling him a villain when he finally hits a breaking point and starts to fight back.

Oh...my...GOD! I had sense of what this movie was going to be like going in, but wow! I was not prepared. Not even a little. The Joker has no definitive origin, but this one is quite possibly his best. Wonderfully enough, homage is paid to most live-action incarnations of the Joker throughout in very subtle, yet gratifying ways. To keep it spoiler-free, I will say that Joaquin Phoenix absolutely delivered.

A self- portrait of a man suffering with mental illness. He’s wounded and tries to survive in an indifferent society. Circumstances beyond his control happens, his much needed therapy, also psychological meds are discontinued. Thus, he spirals deeper into his madness, strikes back at his tormentors, and becomes an anti-hero of the forgotten in society.

Let me start by saying that I really don't enjoy comic book movies. With that said, I immensely enjoyed this movie. Originally, I had no intention of viewing it, until I started seeing the reviews. Including the violent scenes, this movie deals with a lot with the state of mind of current society and how average people are treated negatively; emotionally, physically and social labels. I believe this movie is disturbingly beautiful.

I want to say if you watch this you need to give it your undivided attention. I tried to watch it but my grandkids kept coming in the room and my adult son wanted to talk about it as other thing were happening. To say the least I just had to turn it off and will come back to it. I don't watch a lot of drama but this was so emotional to watch his break down right it front of you. The actor did such an amazing job, so do watch it.

When I heard there was a Joker film, I was not expecting a dramatic character drama and analysis of a super villain. This is one of the most interesting films based on a comic book character. It's unique in many ways. The only film I'd say this compares to is Taxi Driver, except in Taxi Driver, we have a protagonist that has a grand illusion of being the hero and this film is kinda the opposite

This is probable going to win more then just one Oscar at the awards . It is a absolutely incredible performance of a person becoming a homicidal crazed human due to his life, surroundings, and interaction with society. This is a movie for adults, because of the violence, inter action of the characters, and psychotic behavior of the main character. It is a movie worth buying, having in your collection and watch more then just once.

A fresh perspective on the Joker and superhero films in general. Giving the character a certain amount of sympathy is against the norm in most comics movies today but this film shows many guilty of horrible acts were first victims of the same treatment. It doesn’t forgive their actions but you can see how they got there. Yes this movie outright steals from King of Comedy and Taxi Driver but it comes off more as tribute than theft.

One of the best movies in 2019 was the Joker. What a unique, smart, intense look at one of the all time villains. If you have not seen it all I can say is you're welcome to treat. I went to the movies to see it and purchased it on 4K and I must say it's visually stunning. If you have a 4K TV this is what you bought it for, the 70's setting, colors, dark and light scenes are captivating. A must have in your collection,

This is one of the best 4k blu-rays I own in terms of picture and audio quality. The movie itself is one of favorites, although that can be subjective depending on the person. It's a nice bonus that it also includes the regular 1080 BD disc and an online code. Definitely a must-have for any home theater for 4k collector.
