No Digital Copy!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this mostly for the digital copy, and all for the kids. They love to stream movies I buy instead of putting in the disc. Upon opening the movie, there's no digital copy! Not even a code that's expired, or anything!

THE Best Blu Ray 3D Movie you will Ever see.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What I love about this movie is how they use realistic occurences to depict a fictional story. Instead of placing a "magic portal" that leads to the center of the earth, they used lava tubes as a realistic way to get there, which lends to the idea that it could be possible. This is mainly why I feel Journey To The Center of The Earth had "Epic" implications. The problem is, the film is too short to earn this prestigious word in its review. My saying is: 2hr+ movies are not always Epic, but Epic movies ARE always 2hr+. Avatar, Batman Begins, King Kong and Transformers are all 2 1/2 to 3 hours long. If Journey offered an extra half hour of "the world inside the world", I could possibly add it to this elite list of movies I consider "Epic". I had the anaglyphic 3D version of this movie before watching the Blu Ray 3D version, and I'm happy to say that it's exactly the same without the red and green outlines. Because anaglyphic 3D effects are usually much better than anamorphic, this means you get an outstanding Blu Ray 3D experience and don't have to wear red and green paper glasses. No other Blu Ray 3D movie offers the kind of in-your-face effects that this one does. Film Experience: 5 of 5 3D Experience: 5 of 5

Excellent 3-D Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the book back in school and have seen a tv movie version back in the 80's. I remember I could'nt wait to go see this in the theater. We had to pay extra for our 3-D glasses too. Another way into making you spend more money than you need to. Frankly, they should be included with the price of movie tickets. But, that's my opinion. Loved the 3-D special effects. I remember when I was little, seeing movies in 3-D. They don't even compare to today's standards. 3-D movies sure have come along way and I'm pleased to say that I'd definately go see another one. They make them look so realistic, like the object is coming right at you. It's great. Liked the movie alot, especially the roller coaster ride. Only thing with that, the gap was a little too big and I highly doubt in real life anyone in a cart would be able to jump that. Wonder if I should write to the Mythbuster guys and have them test that theory out?! Makes you wonder what really is in the center of our earth?! I'm glad they give you good 3-D glasses included in the dvd. I watched the extras after I watched the movie. It was interesting for me to watch because I like seeing how things are made.

Journey is entretaining but rather shallow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's important to note straight off that this IS NOT a remake or a retelling of Verne's classic novel in any way. This story is surprisingly original. The storyline, in brief, is about a college professor, played by Brendon Fraser (The Mummy and George of the Jungle) with his usual boyish charm who lost his brother 10 years ago when he went off to prove that Verne's novel wasn't really fiction. Now, out of a sense of guilt or obligation he takes in his brother's son each summer, well played by Josh Hutcherson (Zathura, RV, and Bridge to Terabithia. Hutcherson is in danger of being typecast as the bitter, rebellious teenager with a secret heart of gold. His acting is good, but he's been essentially playing the same role over and over again. Well, the pair get it in their heads to try and track down the possible entry to the center of the earth and end up in Iceland trying to track down another professor who may be of help, but discover he died awhile back. They are instead greeted by his lovely looking, but rather cold exterior daughter, nicely played by relative newcomer Anita Briem, who agrees to be a mountain guide for them in what she considers to be a fool's errand. The rest of the film is the trip to the center of the earth which only seems to take them a few minutes to get to and includes a shamelessly copied scene on mine carts from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as well as a T-rex scene lifted from Jurassic Park. I wasn't sure if they were paying some kind of homage to these films (or genre), or if they were literally just copying the scenes thinking the 3D effects would make them better somehow. Other than that the film moves along at a fun and rapid pace with several predictable, but touching moments. The Hits: (1) The 3D effects are the advanced type (not the blue and red glasses) that doesn't leave you with a headache afterwards. The entire film is designed with 3D in mind and while a gimmick, it is effective and fun. (2) The special effects themselves are magnificent and would hold up nicely even in 2D. The most beautiful effect is the beach scene. It was absolutely stunning! (3) The performances were all much better than this gimmicky action genre would normally dictate. They know it's all nonsense, but they make themselves into rather believable characters that we care about. The Misses: (1) Although the plot is fast-paced, it is rather silly and even ludicrous much of the time, but again, we know this going into the film. (2) There is some really awful cliché-ridden dialogue. It's a bit of a miracle that these actors were able to deliver them without bursting into laughter and that is to their credit. (3) In spite of the overall nice entertainment factor of this film with all it's clever special effects, decent acting, and fast-paced feel, it is a rather shallow film that is hard to recall even right after seeing it. The problem with all gimmicky films, whether they are 3D or using camcorders to tell the story, the focus is primarily on the gimmick and little else. So much time, energy and money goes into the gimmick that the other aspects of storytelling fall to the wayside. This film does a bit better job at trying to be more entertaining and cohesive than other gimmick-driven films, but it is still rather shallow when all is said and done. I doubt very much I would have enjoyed this film much at all if not for the 3D effects and that says a lot all by itself.

3D - good but not great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great one to add to your Blu-Ray collection including an anaglyph version of the 3D movie (not theatre quality) but a fun one to add to your collection. Including of course the standard High Definition Blu-Ray version of the movie and 4 "paper cutout" - sets of 3D glasses (you know from the 70's complete with Blue and Red Cellophane.) - 3D only really works well in a DARK home theatre space or room. Enjoyed.

Awesome 3D Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes, it has both 3D and 2D (on same disc), Not a flipsy! Cannot play 2D version in non-3D player though, so why bother putting the 2D version on the disc. The 2D version is accessed via menu; a 3D menu! I'm thinking someone didn't quite think this through all the way.

Excellent Family Adventure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We own this movie on DVD then 3D DVD, then blu-ray and now the 3D Blu-ray. That should tell you something! Our family loves this flick and the little critter at the beginning with his little antennae is just hilarious to us. There are some great pop out effects with this 3D version and the movie its self is worth a watch. Great family entertainment.

Excellent 3D movie for home entertainment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought the color was great, and so did my wife and teenage son, maybe it was the darker home theatre set-up and a large plasma television, 50". 3D experience was excellent along with the dolby digital surround. It does state to set the tv at a certain setting for color and 3D setting but I have my set-up that way anyways. I thought this was one of the better experiences for movies for the year. Highly recommend this Blu-Ray.

Dug this great family movie!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really liked this movie. Great popcorn flick and one I dont' have to stand over my son with the remote to fast forward or mute anything inappropriate. It's a fun story, but don't try and think it all out, it doesn't add up. It is just a fun movie to enjoy. I didn't see it in 3-D so looking forward to that. Nice that they inlcude 4 pairs of glasses. My son thought it was fantastic, and as he will be getting most of the use out of it, he is happy to own it.

3D Option: Color Horible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie is a great movie, but the Blu-Ray 3D version is horrible. the color is gone. they should have done different color lenses rather than the green and red. Just about all the color is gone in the 3D version. But other than that it is a great move and highly recommend it.

Good Family Entertainment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great movie the whole family can sit around watch together. Its very predictable and the acting is a little weak, but it will keep you entertained and laughing enough that you will enjoy watching. The visual effects are pretty cool, even though some of it is a little far fetched. Young kids will love watching this movie with you!

Much better then expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband, two kids, and I went to see this movie in the theater. It was definately better then I had expected it to be. I seen some of the previews and was not extremely impressed, but my kids wanted to see it. I really enjoyed it and so did my husband and both kids. I will be purchasing this movie for them for Christmas this year.

AWESOME FOR HOME ENTERTAINMENT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a Must for Blu-ray aficionados, the movie itself is excellent for the whole family, adventure and action with good actors performance, this is not an IMAX theatre quality 3-D experience although the movie 3-D effects are awesome, my kids loves to wear de glasses and they got a lot of fun for hours.

adventurous
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great book to film adaptation, with scares and comedy. Great adventure movie with great acting. Jules Verne would be proud! With the 3-D glasses giving me a headache its nice to be able to watch the movie in 2-D. Great special features like the making of and a few games to play as well, it kinda feels like you are immersed in the movie yourself! Worth watching!

best by far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.thus movie although older as made in 2008, had by far one of the best 3d effects of even newer movies. Except for Hugo I would say this is better than most and I have a collecction of over 30 3d movies to compare with!!

Good movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a great movie to add to our library. We enjoyed it but wish we had seen it at the movies in 3-D. The attempt at 3-D and adding the 4 sets of glasses was nice but you could see the effects just as well without the glasses. Good show though.
