I thought the acting was fair at best. The story line. Could have been better,

Let's ignore the marginal acting and weak script. The story would probably have worked better as an animated feature. It's a coming of age story... well, sort of. It could have been a good motion picture if they had worked more on the storyline and not so much on special effects that actually detract from it.
