A not so resource hungry anti-virus

When I used to buy laptops on a couple of ocassions earlier I used to opt for the free Norton antivirus. Not only was Norton available as free for only 3 months, it is resource hungry and would not uninstall easily. I have been using Kaspersky for the last 4 months and it is not resource hungry and has on a couple of ocassions caught malware.

    Works for me

Have had it installed on my Toshiba Satellite laptop for about 2 months now. No problems so far. Updates regularly. I did get a couple messages saying the license was [going to] expire, even though I had bought a full year, but when I called Best Buy they said the program sends out a form letter of sorts, and to disregard the message.

I used it on a computer that was all locked up with viruses but installed this and the computer was back to normal. My kids tend to get on all kinds of sights which can be dangerous but since we have used this I have had no trouble with viruses on our computers.

    Effective Protection

Confused by the negative reviews. Have a 4 PC household including 1 Mac. When purchasing my new laptop was interested in a Mac due to regular virus infection of the Windows PCs. This is a result of regular use by two children who download items from the internet without knowing the source. Have utilized McAfee and Norton previously with very poor results and regular infections often discovered running Malwarebytes . Bestbuy provided 6 months free protection with PC purchase. Installed easily with provided CD. In the 45 days since installing this protection my new laptop has been infected only once with Kaspersky identifying and removing the infected file immediately. Easy to use requiring no action on users part. Updates and scans can be set up to run automatically. Runs seamlessly and does not negatively impact computer performance. l will install this virusprotection on my other Windows PCs.

    Contacting Support was a Hassle

The databases were not up to date. I searched the website for hours looking for a possible solution and none of them worked. When I finally talked to someone it got fixed. The most frustrating part was I installed the software on Friday and they are closed on weekends, so I didn’t speak with the support teach till Monday.

The only problem is the young man who works at Best Buy told us we didn't have to do anything, it's already downloaded. WRONG. I was using my new computer for over a week when I realized it wasn't protected. I had to download the anit virus myself. It could've been dangerous had I not caught that it wasn't protected.

I really did not need to purchase this antivirus software as the internet provider has one built into the system to us for free with our membership. That is something we did not remember when we purchased our new system. I wish that the sales consultant had thought to ask the right question to save us some money!

Came with my Geek Squad Service package. Suffers often of corruptions (i.e downloaded database), not so easy to fix for beginner. Crashed/froze my PC several times. Not so convinced about usefulness of product. Went back to Norton Internet Security 2012, which has improved the last few years! Use

Daughter killed the scan 2 days into 3-day scan

I've used a number of AV products on Windows and not found one I loved, but when replacing the "kids' laptop" with a new one they gave us a 6-month free subscription to this or a better-known competitor which I REALLY didn't like, I figured I'd give it a try. The initial install went well but I suggested that my daughter do a baseline scan even though the laptop was brand new. The scan began, and the estimated time to completion was originally a day, then two, then three. Two days in my daughter killed it. I'm putting AVG on....

Small glitch, Too soon to tell

Haven't had it long enough to do a thorough review, however, the first month after having it installed (a year's subscription), a popup showed that it was already expired. The GeekSquad pro told me that is not uncommon, that Kaspersky has a server glitch that hasn't yet been fixed.

Great anti-virus protection. However, I had purchased multiyear and the next year DID NOT kick-in. Thus, a waste of money as I had to purchase another year. I was told I could get a refund, but that never came to me also…

This was purchased for a relative's computer, not mine. Best Buy gave me less than a full year because it was necessary for them to mail me a cd and the subscription period began from when I placed the order and not from when it was received and installed on the computer.

I have had Kaspersky for about four years. I was delighted that it was one of the choices that Best Buy offered to come with my new computer. I have had Norton and McAfee and was not satisfied with either of them.

I never used this product before and am still getting use to what it does. It came with my new laptop and I am still unsure if I will pay for it when the subscription expires. I had to load an update and needed to uninstall and then reinstall which I didn't care for.

Downloaded internet security suite and it wouldn't install. Called tech support who treated me like an idiot. Didn't believe me when I told him I had already done what he recommended. We did it again twice to no avail. At that point he told me to uninstall and download again and hung up. I uninstalled, bought and installed a highly rated competitive security suite for significantly less and had it installed and running in ten minutes. NEVER AGAIN KAPERSKY

Subscription ran out after one month

This was suppose to be a one year subscription but I got prompted after one month that I needed to send them money to keep the subscription going. I might drop it just because of that. But, it doesn't drag your computerdown like Mcafee.

My new computer came with Windows 7, Microsoft Security Essentials is part of Windows, works great and is essentially free and without maintenance. Why bother with anti-virus, third party software? In fact having two AV's installed is a problem.
