This solved the problem entirely. Also I fits under my Ninja coffee machine nicely, so I can make just the right amount to fill it without a problem.

The seal is what makes this one my go-to coffee mug. Not all Contigo mugs are equal. The cheaper 2 in a pack versions often have a small dot of rubber that seals where you drink from, this one has a half inch long seal and is much better.
