The coffee tastes the same and not strong when made with the 8 oz and 10 oz cup size. If using the 6 oz cup size the brew is stronger with or without the button pushed just due to less water. It did NOT come with any sample pods. Most of the reviews I read before purchase said it came with a 6 pod variety pack. Works GREAT with the pink plastic "fill it yourself" pods that I ordered elsewhere.
