    4K Somewhat *TOO* Clear

When it comes to screens and visuals, I have eyes that can pick out subtle differences in picture quality. I love this movie and have purchased it on three formats - DVD, Blu-Ray, and now on 4K UHD. The upgrade between DVD and Blu-Ray was GREAT, so when I saw the 4K UHD version was coming out I was pumped. As it turns out, the movie doesn't "age" very well and with the definition upped to 4K I began noticing places where the CG looked more obvious as opposed to looking more natural on Blu-Ray. Overall, everything was improved especially the sound quality and the addition of HDR but sometimes CG became a bit too noticeable.

I have all three of the major Kong movies and find this one is actually pretty darn good. Jack Black is always fun to watch and the story, although a little draggy in some places really does capture the essence of old New York in many ways. Many panned this movie as overly long, and perhaps too violent. I thought it seemed to be a bit more realistic for that in view of the other Kong films. The extras included are really interesting, including the extra scenes. Yes, the digital effects are somewhat different than the live action 1976 version, or the stop action original version, but they are well done and really look pretty decent to my eyes.

Honestly, the only reason I bought this was because it was in a buy two get one free sale, but it's worth it if you can catch it that way. The video quality is great and the extras are worthwhile.

    Beautiful Throwback

King Kong is a long epic in tribute to both the previous iterations of the story, as well as films and themes of early cinema. With a hint of exotic tribes, sea-faring, and dinosaurs, the film makes no attempt to shoehorn this fantasy into modern themes. With beautifully stylized versions of New York City and a mysterious island, the film's Academy Awards are no surprise. The most impressive visual entity is Kong himself, who's fur is well-detailed and holds up to more modern effect 10 years on from his creation.

The 4K disc is worth the money. Gives you the option to watch the extended cut which was a pleasant experience. The added picture definition of 4K plus the punch brought by UHD made watching this movie a whole new experience. Ended up liking this more than I thought I would. BTW I already owned the blue ray so there was some hesitation involved in making the decision to buy this. However, if you own a 4K TV and blue ray player its worth the upgrade. Cheers!

I have bought King Kong on DVD, Bluray, and now on 4K. I was always very impressed with how good this movie looks, but now seeing it in 4K, I am stunned. If I didn't know better, I would say this movie had come out this year instead of almost 15 years ago. The Kong/T-rex fight is a sight to behold. Some of the CGI is a bit wonky, like the sea monster fight in the extended version, but Kong looks incredible. Very recommended.

I like this version of Kong, showed a more gentle giant than in Skull Island and it was more about Kong and his relationship with Man and the island but be ready to cry

A totally 2 star script. CGI is the star rather, special effects were not special enough for more than 1 Star. The cinematography and audio were 4 or 5 stars.

Loved it when I saw it in the theater. Bought the DVD of the theatrical version upon release, then bought the DVD of the extended cut, then the Bluray and now the Ultra HD Bluray. The visuals get better in each iteration. Probably, l'lI be tempted to buy an 8K version if that ever comes out someday but for now I can wallow in this one. Nuff said.

Peter Jackson's Kong still holds up after 12 years. I recommend this movie to anyone. It's a terrific follow up to his Rings Trilogy. This particular release comes with a menagerie of bonus footage. There's a couple full length documentaries on how (and why) this movie was made - from pre-production to post, a group of deleted scenes, and much more. If you are interested in film and how it's made, I recommend checking these out.

This movie is fun mindless fun. I think best in the series. Those Godzilla movies were long and dragged. This one is fast paced...light on plot but beautiful CGI. This movie on 4k is cotton candy for your eyes. If you can find the steelbook it have a nice design that pulls in the color palette from the film.

Peter Jackson's King Kong is a criminally underrated film that deserves as much recognition, honor and respect as the film it is a remake of. The film is a masterpiece and not only an absolute beautiful film to behold, but just as much an experience to have. To finally see this in 4K UHD is a treat! All previously released BTS materials are included as is the extended edition of the film. This is one not to miss!

Peter Jackson's "King Kong" does a great job of hitting lots of action tropes while leaving plenty of room for emotional grounding. The first hour is especially involving, though I admit some of the "running, running" stuff on the island goes on way too long. Great visuals, hours of extras, and a nifty steel case to house the movie make this the best $5.99 bargain I've ever picked up. Plus, a DVD version is included.

    Best King Kong movie ever

By far I would rate this the very best King Kong movie ever made. The cast is top notch and the story line is true to the original. What makes this one so much better is that the beast is so well made and believable in this movie and lives in his own world on a remote island where he is captured. Nothing negative about this film - it is a classic.

If you are a fan of 2005's King Kong, the Ultimate Edition Blu-ray combines all of the content produced for home video till this point. This included the original extended edition blu-ray along with the extras from the original 2-disc DVD release as well as the 3-disc extended edition release. All told this is about 13 hours of special features. In this case, the title for this edition is actually quite accurate!

Visually this movie draws you into the action and makes you part of the adventure. You believe that King Kong does exist and the creatures from his island are larger than life. The love stories that evolve as the movie unfolds leaves you rooting for different characters throughout the show until the end when only one remains. This movie reminds you to experience life no matter how big or small it may be.

excellent movie starts in N.Y at the height of the depression shows the social anxiety of many people of that era based on a film director on his last legs with a failing movie he has an idea to charter a boat out of N.Y to an isolated location in the south atlantic an island that has not been chartered from here its like jurassic park scenes are spectacular well worth watching in blu ray up compressed in 4k

Quite Long, Yes - But Enjoyable

The combination of using a lot of CGI and developing the story line makes the movie a bit lengthy, but it was necessary. With the CGI alone, the story would have been as shallow as the 70s version of King Kong, which is quite lame. This was fun and took us to another level of CGI Dinos even after the Jurassic Park franchise. A few story line flaws, but its a sci-fi movie, not Shakespeare, dudes!

This is an amazing version of Peter Jackson's King Kong. I loved watching the extended edition. Its 3 hours and 21 minutes but it doesn't feel that long. The extra scenes add additional creature fights which are spectacular. I highly recommend any monster movie fan to purchase this product.

This is another steelbook that I didn’t want to pass on, and for a great price. The artwork for the steelbook is gorgeous and this version of King Kong is great. I haven’t gotten to see the extended cut before, so I’m looking forward to watching it. The visuals in this are amazing and Naomi Watts is great as the lead and as usual Andy Serkis does great in his motion capture role as Kong.
