This review is not much about the movie since a lot has been already said about it. Steelbook is pretty decent though since US anyways doesn't get many steelbook release and it is good to see good quality steelies popping up once in a while and it helps me save the import from EU. Having said that, it would be nice if bestbuy can get more exclusives from studios with some original artwork (non-comic) and nice finish like gloss/emboss/deboss

This King Kong movie is so good! If you ever saw the old school original and liked it you will be blown away by this modern version with all the advances in special effects that now exist compared to long ago.

I recently purchased King Kong (Ultimate Edition) & I would highly recommend this Blu Ray Dvd to family and friends... I also enjoyed the extra Blu Ray Disc with various "extras"... The only two things that would have made this any better is if Best Buy would've had "UPGRADE & SAVE" so that I could've saved a few additional dollars ($5 to be exact) on it as well as if this would've been in 3D...

I’ve been waiting for this steelbook for a long time. I was lucky to find it in my nearest Best Buy for an amazing price. The steelbook is amazing and has a matte surface which I honestly love. The art work is one of my favorite touches that I can enjoy to display in my shelf.

Peter Jackson's love letter to the original King Kong is an excellent movie with some of the very best visual effects ever put to the big screen starting with the title character played to perfection by Andy Serkis. This disc offers both the original cut and the extended edition as well as every single special feature ever produced for the movie. A must have for fans of the movie

Remakes of old classic films are seldom as good as the original, but Peter Jackson's 2005 version of King Kong proves the opposite. It's an excellent re-make, but beyond that, the modern state-of-the-art special effects make it much more exciting and entertaining. And since it's now available in a limited edition steel book containing both Blu Ray and DVD discs, how can one resist?

Three hours looooong!!! This is still a great movie from 2005. The first hour drags on a bit building up the characters, but once they get on the ship and head to Skull Island it's 2 hours of action and adventure. Great special effects and somewhat of an emotional roller coaster ride. You will be sure to enjoy this timeless classic for years to come. Jurassic Park meets Love Story.

The problem with the remake is that they have put all the focus on graphics and none on making the actual story as real as it should be.

The movie albeit long was a film that honored the original source material and took and expanded and provided us context that made Skull Island terrifying. The film in 4K is a feast for the eyes. The HDR brought about some of the deepest blacks I've seen in some time. The sound was excellent and transfer was done with meticulous care. The added content which was very good made the overall experience albeit (4+ hours!) worthwhile. A great film to own for those who love Kong.

If you are a fan of King Kong and Peter Jackson films, this version of the movie is a must. Jackson knows how to make truly epic films and this is no exception. All of the added scenes were either fun or helpful for character development. A masterpiece of filmmaking.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this transfer. Great sound and the higher resolution doesn't Mahe the cg look too bad.

Depending on your point of view, a remake of a classic movie such as KK is either sacrilege or an endeavor long overdue. I can easily see where this remake could've gone wrong in many spectacularly different ways, but I think this was that rarity - a worthwhile remake. I won't nitpick over assorted digressions from the 'original'... this is a very good movie. It's big!

This movie has the perfect blend of action and adventure that you wont find to often. The 4k presentation looks slightly better than blu ray with the HDR 10 giving it a slight advantage. The DTS:X track is outstanding as you would expect. I recommend picking this up for any King Kong fan.

I love this movie. It's is a bit on the long side, but great performances by all keep the movie moving along. The new blu-ray looks phenomenal, and this seems to be the definitive special edition, including what seems to be all special features from previous releases. Also, The Kong v. T-Rex fight in this movie is once of the greatest action sequences ever put on film.

This movie is one of my favorites. It is one of the most beautiful, sweeping, epic, and powerfully acted movies I have ever seen. I actually already owned it, but when I saw that this version was coming out and that it had OVER 13 HOURS OF NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN CONTENT, the nerd in me could not pass it up. Also, the price is incredibly modest for something so cool.

I recommend this for those who are interested in the massive lot of extras on the new bonus disc. The extras were all available over multiple DVD releases, but now you can have them all consolidated on one Blu-ray. It also comes with a digital copy of the theatrical cut. Other than these things, it's the same great disc one that has been available for years. So, double dip if you care about the extras, pass if you already own the Blu-ray and dont watch extras.

Didn't go out to buy this movie but when I saw it for $5 for a blu-ray, well... Other than the 1933 classic King Kong this is the best Kong they made. I have the 1933 and this one on DVD so why not have it on blu-ray too? Great movie for the Kong fan. Anything Andy Serkis is involved in is good and he put extra effort into this. You can spend $5 on a lot worse things.

Who doesn't love King Kong!? Yeah sure, it's a long movie, but it has to be. With that run time, we get so much heart, so much fun, and so much character development. The graphics hold up well, and we all love to see Jack Black fighting creeping crawlers!

I’m going to assume you know the story of King Kong...so you want to know if this is a reasonable telling (yes) with convincing special effects (definitely) and a good 4K resolution (see title , yes)... and has iTunes download (yes) and good extra items (yes). If you are like, ‘a giant ape?! Oh come on...’ this isn’t for you. Pure action escapism.

Knowing the original movie I was so very impressed by this movie the 1st time I watched it. With the second movie coming out we decided to purchase the first one, I had forgotten how good it was! Learned in the extra features this was a life long dream of Peter Jackson's to make this movie. Bravo to the realization of that dream in such a stunning way.
