I bought this because I just obtained a 4K blu ray player to go with my 4K UHD TV and wanted to see how a 4K movie looked. This is a 2005 movie that has been upscaled to 4K and the detail is amazing. Now however, the rating I give is only for the 4K upscaling and not for the content of the movie which is over 3 hours. Lots of giant size bugs and creatures attacking the folks that landed on the island. Lots of fights between King Kong and the giant bugs and creatures. If that kind of action is your cup of tea then go for it, otherwise i will just say you have been warned.

Good special effects , i thought i saw some glitches like parts were converted from lower quality special effect computers then fed through a smoothing filter to hide it . But all in all was very entertaining and some cg was over the top in places . It was really a upgraded everything from the original movie . But i will still insist on the original every 6 months to be on the screen ! This one will be played after that one , might be good to do in a row to really see how far off the new one is ,my guess not far .

Peter Jacksons 4k version is fantastic with an all star cast.

With all due respect to the original classic (Close second) & Dino De Laurentiis, the 2005 version of King Kong Remains my favorite. My girlfriend had not seen this movie and I had a tough time convincing her to watch since it’s in excess of 3 hours, but she was so happy she did afterward. She had said we’d have to watch in on two sittings to break it up, but watched it straight through, stating “it did not seem like 3 hours at all!”. Great time piece film starting in 1920’s Broadway, seem less CGI & spectacular visuals on Skull Island & Manhattan. Highly recommended.
