Love this coffee maker! We are very picky about our coffee... grind our beans, use filtered water... our last maker pooped out on us. Not exactly a compact machine but the coffee is fabulous!

KitchenAid - 12-Cup Coffee Maker - Onyx Black The KitchenAid 12 cup coffee maker is just a bit on the larger size compared to other 12 cup coffee makers. It has features that most others don’t have. Like dual timers, they can be used in the same day, or set to different times of the morning for week days or weekends, you pick the timer you want to use at any given time. Dual temperatures for the warming pad, as well as dual temperatures for the brewing cycle. The best feature I see is the time allowed on the warming plate. It is adjustable between 1 and 4 hours. The buttons seem to crunch a little if you don’t press them straight on, they still work, just make a crunching noise. Must be something to do with the mechanism behind the button itself. The water reservoir is removable and easily filled with your sink or the carafe. Replacement is straight forward and it slides in place. I must add here, my wife filled it once and placed it back in place. In a matter of about 15 seconds, while she wasn’t looking, it dumped 8 cups of water all over the counter. I have not been able to replicate this event no matter how badly I tried to mess it up. It just slides in place and seals correctly. Just keep that in mind. I can’t recreate it, but it happened. The temperatures of the coffee on the warming plate after 1 hour (I am using 1 hour because that’s the time between my first and second cup of coffee) are as follows. Warming plate on low, coffee 153 degrees. Warming plate on high, coffee 160 degrees. Coffee being brewed temperatures are as follows (coffee being brewed are measured immediately after brewing stops, and measured in the carafe). Brewing on normal, coffee 170 degrees. Brewing on bold, coffee 163 degrees. It also takes longer to brew on bold. I have found that the sweet spot for me is brewing on bold with the warming plate on high. Also note that all temperatures were taken with a standard kitchen digital thermometer. It can use a #4 paper filter, but comes with “gold” screen permanent filter. For me the paper filter was the only real option. The screen permanent filter allows a kind of coffee mud to pass through and end up in the coffee. This has nothing to do with the coffee maker or filter, it is a by product of the coffee I use. A paper filter removes the mud. It has a built in timer to let you know when it’s time to be cleaned. And here’s the very best part. The carafe pours coffee without any dribbling down the side. Just pour your coffee without any cleanup after. I have probably used 20 coffee makers in my life. Maybe 2 of them have been able to do this correctly. Please read the spec sheet to see if this coffee maker has the desired functions for you. For me this is a big win.

This coffee maker tastes great, full-bodied and rich, not bitter. The ability to program two different start times for brewing is fantastic. The only hiccup in the function is - when placing the water container on the back, it must be placed exactly right or it will leak. I avoid this by filling the carafe and pouring that into the container, instead of taking it off the back. It's not enough of an issue to reduce the rating, though. We've had KitchenAid coffee makers in the past. This is the best thus far!

This is the Ying / Yang of coffeemakers. The coffee taste great but the design of the removable reservoir needs improvement. I checked reviews before I purchased this maker and noticed several comments about the leaking reservoir. I also notice people loved the coffee it made. So I took a chance and as luck would have it I got one that leaked. I do agree the coffee taste awesome. It was perfect temp too! I found if I pressed hard on the reservoir and filled it without removing the reservoir it worked ok. I ended up returning it. Also note the electronics work well but not without following the written instructions. I do think it’s better to have the electronics set up a little more intuitively so if you have to reprogram it you do not have to go get the instructions. It’s ideal if it’s simple enough you can figure it out without the manual. Just my opinion. Overall: I would not recommend this maker to a friend only because the quality appears to be unreliable.

The water reservoir make it easy to fill to the level you want without spilling any water. It's easy to setup and program, the 2 auto setup times are ideal as I have two different morning times that I need my coffee ready in the mornings during the week. I wish the warmer timer was greater than 4 hours. the drip system brews great tasting coffee. over all I'm very pleased with our new Kitchen Aid coffee maker.

I bought this after my last Bella Pro Series started making brown water after exactly 2 years. I have to say that out of the box, it makes a wonderful cup of smooth coffee. I enjoy putting this on every morning to brew a pot, and again in the evening if I'm home and want to relax. Clean up is easy with the separate reservoir and I like the spout that does not allow coffee to drip while pouring, which several carafes I've had in the past did. Overall, I'm very happy now...we'll see how she holds up over time!

Overall this coffee maker works very well and has some nice features. I like that it came with a reusable filter, and especially like that there are measurement fill lines built into the filter to know how much coffee to add. The option to make a stronger brew is also a nice feature for those who love extra flavor without wasting coffee, along with the programmable hot plate; for those who may want to have a pot readily available all morning. The coffee maker itself looks nice and appears to be well made, but it is a bit on the bulky side. I don’t really care for the fact that the screen and main buttons for the coffee maker are on its side, but it is nice that there is the additional start/ cancel brew button on the “front side” below the hot plate. For me, the most disappointing part of this coffee maker is the lacking feature of selecting a brew size, especially considering the higher end cost of this coffee maker. While the large, detachable water reservoir is nice, its usefulness is a bit lost if you’re only looking to brew a couple cups at a time – not to mention you have to refill the reservoir for each programmed cycle to run. With the given features in mind, it’s evident that this coffee maker is best suited for those who consume large quantities of coffee or for families with numerous coffee drinkers. If you’re like me, and you are looking for a more individual serving size kind of coffee maker, then this may not be your best option.

The KitchenAid 12-cup Coffee Maker is the first drip coffee maker that I have used at home in many years. I had previously been a devotee of single serve coffee makers but frequently use a drip system at work. This model is definitely a step up from the run-of-the mill with its stylish yet classic onyx and chrome design, pause-and-pour feature, timer for the hot plate with automatic shut-off, dual timers for scheduled brewing, and a removable water tank that allows for easy filling and cleaning. It appears to be solidly constructed and though mostly made of plastic it does not feel “flimsy” or cheap. It can be situated sideways or front facing on your counter to minimize its profile while still allowing access to the needed controls and the carafe. This machine is not just pretty to look at-it actually brews a very good cup of coffee while allowing you to adjust the strength of the brew to suit your personal taste. Initial use and setup was very simple after reading the quick start guide and instructions which offered several suggestions to make optimal use of this machine. While this coffee maker has all the standard features, my favorite is the permanent metal filter that does not require the use of disposable filters and is eco-friendly. For those who prefer to use a paper filter #4 paper filters are widely available. While I don’t have use for the 12-cup capacity on a daily basis it is great to have that option and makes this a great machine for larger households, workplaces, and for people who consume large amounts of coffee. I am a huge fan of KitchenAid appliances and if this product lives up to the KitchenAid name then I’m sure it will remain in use for a very long time.

This KitchenAid 12 cup coffee maker has a beautiful design. It is fairly large though when you turn it where you can see the clock. We just happen to have enough counter space so that doesn’t matter. I really like the detachable water reservoir that allows me to fill it from my filtered water on my fridge and also to easily clean it. The whole thing is well made including the carafe. You don’t have to wait to put the carafe under it until you’ve filled the coffee filter since the filter housing sits on its own and doesn’t push against the top of the carafe. It still has the pause and pour feature, though. The other features are hot plate timer selection of 2 hours or 4 hours and a bold or normal brew setting which basically drops the water in slower, auto brew programming and a 29 hole spiral shower head to full saturate the coffee when brewing. The only negatives are the coffee temp is only about 170 degrees which should probably be closer to 190 for the best brew and that the permanent filter that is included leaves residue in your coffee cup. Using a regular coffee filter does not. Overall it makes a good cup of coffee.
