    Microwave broke in under 2 years

    We thought we were buying a great microwave. Including the cost of the trim kit, we spent over $800. However, after just over a year and a half, the microwave broke. KitchenAid does not make replacement parts for these models of microwaves, and because the microwave was over a year old, we are out of luck. The best that KitchenAid could offer me was a "loyalty discount" applied towards a new KitchenAid. So I just spent another $400 to replace a very young microwave. I'm incredibly frustrated. And, FYI, when I tried to order a replacement microwave through KitchenAid, the representative said she was ordering the exact same model. However, when I checked the confirmation email, I realized she ordered a black microwave, not stainless steel, and it wasn't even the right size. So I had to reorder another microwave and was charged even more. The sales representative was very nice, but be warned that your microwave might break, and the representative wasn't even careful enough to order the correct replacement. I wish I had ordered a Thermador!

    Disappointing Quality

    We bought this unit thinking it would be an upgrade to our existing KitchenAid microwave. KitchenAid quality has taken a terrible nosedive since we purchased a similar unit 10 years ago. Compared to our previous KitchenAid unit, this one is much more 'flimsy' and is noticeably more noisy when cooking, and when closing the door. It also requires a new $125 trim kit if installing as built in - and the 'stainless' trim kit is made of PLASTIC! We returned this unit and opted to stay with our 10 year old previous model. Only reason for 2 stars instead of one is that this unit offers a 30 second quick cook button vs 60 second. Everything else is worse compared to our old model...

    Our first one we got had a huge dent in the stainless frame. So we got another one shipped out and after a few days, the latch doesn’t work on the door. It’s very hard to open it. And you literally have to stick your finger under the door to help “unlatch” it. This happened w our previous kitchenaid microwave as well. We had to get the same one as the frame was built in. I wouldn’t have gotten this one had it not been for the custom frame. Now I need to figure out how to return this for another w a working latch to open the microwave door. Ugh..

    Paint peeling off wall

    Purchased 10/24/14 The paint has been peeling away from the side of the microwave! DEFECT!!!! This paint is peeling away from the top of the microwave near the vent holes. A place that rarely gets touched! It has not been scratched. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT! KitchenAid/Whirlpool's response: We recommend you don't use it! Throw it away. KitchenAid/Whirlpool refuse to offer any assistance with their defective microwave! I recommend you not buy a KitchenAid/Whirlpool microwaves.

    This Microwave works fast!

    Ths Kitchenaid 2.2 Cu Ft. Microwave is much larger than our previous MW, and was an easy wall installation. But what I like most is the speed with which it cooks. It's 1700 wats cooks in about half the time as our old unit, which is great.

    Within two days of install the microwave is malfunctioning. Whenever the 30 second button is used to heat food the clock resets to 0;00. Super irritating. Why isn’t anything made to last anymore??

    Bought this microwave to replace an existing kitchenaid that was built in that died after 10 yrs or so. Had to match existing appliances in my house to appease my wife. Works fine and is large.

    Installed new on Monday, clock resets to 0:00 constantly. Close door gets error message, Called Kitchenaid, Microwave is on a exchange program

    We had 2 smaller 1.0 KitchenAid wall mounted microwaves for 20 years...the new 2.0 cu/ft versions seem to be of the same quality.
