    Great Replacement

We bought this dishwasher as a replacement for a 10-year old LG also purchased from and installed by Best Buy. The LG was great but when the door springs both failed it wasn’t worth fixing it. If we thought the LG was quiet the new KitchenAid is almost silent. We’re only three loads in to using it but it cleans well and dries much better than the LG. The sales price, free installation, free delivery, and small charge for the haul away of the old LG made it a no-brainer. Should add that the installation process was done by the Best Buy Geek Squad rather than a third party installer like the LG 10 years earlier. The Geek Squad installer pointed out a number of mistakes or at least somewhat sloppy work of the previous installer. He completely removed all the drain and feed lines and replaced them with the KitchenAid provided parts whereas the previous installer had used and basically jury-rigged the existing lines from the original Kenmore when installing the LG.

I purchased the is dishwasher because it was to reduce noise. It Did! Fantastic we can run the dishwasher anytime. The only time we hear noise is when the water hits a pan lid. We have to listen for it. I wish I would have purchased it sooner. Dish cleaning is wonderful. No problems there. It is a great investment. One downside 8 months later there is a foul smell coming from it when I run the pro dry. I am trying to have it fixed. We will see.

    After 5 years ...

It cleans all the dishes about 80% of the time. It loses 3 stars because critical parts have broken. 1) the touch panel cracked after a kitchen towel snagged onto the corner. 2) the top rack rail pegs (where it attaches to the tub) broke so cant use the rack and 3) the dishwasher pod door that slides down to close broke. I wasnt expecting BIFL but did expect more.

The Dishwasher I Kept Meaning To Buy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have bought 4 dishwashers in the past 20 years. Until this one, I never quite got 'the right one'. I bought Bosch which was the absolute worst dishwasher ever, a Samsung, and a GE - both of which were adequate but something was missing. When I built my current house I opted for Kitchen Aid appliances. I really didn't put a lot of stock into the dishwasher. It looked really nice, but my previous experiences had left me very cynical in the dishwasher department. I had really little expectations as I pretty much assumed dishwashers were an expensive scam (looking at you Bosch). Except this KitchenAid is awesome. It is what I really kept meaning to buy but just didn't know existed. I don't have a single complaint - it works like a dishwasher should and looks great in the process, and my family abuses dishwashers. If I did have a complaint it is that I don't have two.

    Not for a family

Pro - Appearance, Quiet and cleans dishes. Cons - Useless 3rd (top) rack , no adjustable tines, drawer pulls are already sticking with less than 6 months of use (hard to pull), and have to touch multiple buttons to start a wash. We are a family of four and try to leverage the top rack for utensils and bottle parts; however, the top rack height is not tall enough to fit a bottle nipple plus the tines are not tall enough to hold the silverware/flatware upright - thus they fall over and dirty water collects on the flat side, not sure what you would clean up there. With no adjustable tines on the bottom rack or middle drawer makes it nearly impossible to fit a full days worth of dishes within. We previously bought same price point LG appliances at our last home. Thought we were upgrading with the Kitchenaid name in our move, but the lack of quality interior and features (not customizable within, no quick start (single button push), etc) has left us feeling disappointed.

Worst overall experience with a major appliance.

At the beginning of the year, my wife and I decided to purchase a new dishwasher as our previous one was starting to give up the ghost. We decided to go for a high quality brand this time around and landed on either KitchenAid or Bosch as they seemed to have the best reputation for dishwashers. After narrowing it down to two models, we finally settled on this model after a game of rock paper scissors. Haha We bought it in late January and it was delivered a week and a half later. It cleaned phenomenally and was whisper quiet. The glasses were incredibly clear and everything came out perfectly dry. Toward the end of March, I noticed that things were coming out a bit less than clean, so I made sure to clean all of the filter items that you are supposed to maintain to see if that would help. It didn't. Next, I asked my daughter (who loads the dish washer) to try rinsing the items thoroughly before loading. This didn't help much and eventually things seemed to get worse. I tried loading the dishes different ways and things continued to get worse. Lastly, I tried a dishwasher cleaner, still to no avail. In mid-May, after a month and a half of sub-par to downright useless dishwashing, I finally reached out to KitchenAid about this issue and they diagnosed the issue as a motor problem and sent a local Maytag/KitchenAid contractor out to verify. This took two weeks for the person to arrive. He said yes, ordered the motor and said it would be two weeks. Then, after two weeks, a different person came out with the motor, said the first guy didn't know what he was talking about and that I needed a valve, not a motor. He ordered it and said it would be one week. The night before that appointment, they called and said "the part arrived, but it was broken. It'll be another week and a half". Finally, the first guy arrives with a valve and motor in tow and replaces it all. The dishwasher works wonderfully again. We were all relieved. Two weeks later, it started cleaning terribly again. I called KitchenAid and reported this and a new appointment with their contractor was set up... Two weeks out. While I was on the phone, the customer service rep had the audacity to try to sell me an extended warranty for the dishwasher that had operated in a satisfactory manner for 2 out of the 6 months that I have owned it instead of offering it as a courtesy to a very dissatisfied customer. The guy came out, looked at the dishwasher and said "well, next thing on the list is a circuit board because there's no way you got two bad motors. We have to order it and don't have anyone available until Aug. 21 to install it." I set the appointment then tonight, the night before, I received a call. "I'm sorry, we received your part but it was broken and we have to take you off the schedule, we'll call you back when we have it". When I pointed out that this was the second time they had used that excuse, the lady said "gee, yeah we are trying to find out what our post office is doing to cause all of this breakage. Anyway we'll call you later." So here I sit, 7 months after purchasing the most expensive dishwasher that I have ever purchased and it is as good as useless. I don't know when it will work again, and after it does work, I don't know for how long. The only thing I do know is that at the end of January, my warranty runs out and I may just have a completely dead door stop unless I give KitchenAid another $120.

I don't write reviews, in this case I felt compelled to do so. I needed a new dishwasher, I did my homework and settled on this unit because others or similar cost and quality such a Bosch wouldn't fit the space without significantly limiting the units capacity. First the good: The unit began working great for maybe 2 weeks to a month. Now for the bad: Installation through Best Buy. This was subbed out. The company had to come out twice to install it properly. The first guy didn't know what he was doing and when you'd close the door there was a distinct sound of metal on metal. Washer: Worked great for maybe 2 weeks in terms on cleanliness but the unit has something called prodry that you pay extra for which is supposed to make the dishes bone dry. This has never worked. Then the cleanliness of the dishes began to decline after a month. Initially it was a few items, then everything on the second rack. There is a 3rd rack but dont bother, nothing gets clean on this. Eventually even mildly soiled silverware would come out as though it hasn't been washed Finally, I rana cycle of dished and when I came home later that day there was a burning smell from the unit itself and the main floor of my house smelled awful. It was an electrical burn smell of either a motor burning out or a short. Best Buy: I called Best Buy to see what they'd do and their return policy on major appliances is 14 days. Completely useless. Referred to manufacturer KitchenAid/Whirlpool: First, if you have to call them then pack a lunch..I spean over 30 minute on hold and explained what had happened and got "disconnected." Called back, another 30 minute hold, retold me story and was transferred to their safety department who finally agreed this shouldn't have happened and scheduled a repair/replacement call but this was a 10 day wait before they could get anyone of because they work with 1 service company which is based out of Baltimore so they only have 1 repair guy in the area every week. My appointment was scheduled through Kitchen AId for 8-12. % days later the repair company called me and said it'd from 12-3. More rescheduling of my work. Finally, they called me 90 minutes before they were scheduled to show up to let me know that their repair guy had called out and they'd need to reschedule to another day. All around awful at every level. a 1200 dishwasher shouldn't break inside 3 months. Best Buy return policy is a joke,. Kitchen Aid customer service is the worst and the fact they use 1 repair company in a major metropolitan area is insane. Don't buy this unit and don't expect Best Buy to stand behind what they sell or do anything after 14 days from sale.

We needed a new dishwasher for the longest time and this was one of the most recommended units. It works amazingly well; way better than our last one. The installer gave a lot of helpful advice to help it work right and add to its lifespan. Definitely knew what he was talking about.

Talk about quiet!!! Testing it after I hooked everything up I had to put my ear against the door to see if it was actually working. The central air coming out of the vent was way louder than this thing! I’m fully impressed! If you are in a confined place, this is the one!

Extremely poor quality for the price

Owned the unit for 10 months now. I beg and implore you, do not buy. The control panel goes dead about once a week, and the only resolution is to go out the breaker box and turn off the kitchen breaker, wait a minute, and turn the breaker back on. This brings the unit back to life. The gasket has also failed on the soap dispenser. I can fill the dispenser with liquid soap and the soap leaks out before the wash cycle. Third, the fill float stem was not properly tightened at the factory - resulting in water leaking out of the tub and under the machine. Luckily I caught this before any damage was done, tightened this, and at least it holds water now. Lastly, the water inlet solenoid appears to be failing as it makes a loud electrical humming when filling the machine. I honestly expected more out of a 800+ dollar dishwasher. It is exceptionally quiet, and washes well. However this model appears to be devoid of any quality control whosoever and the parts are certainly of poor quality and are not tested properly.

Bought this about 4 years ago and have had 2 problems. A year ago the rack rusted through. Currently the entire bottom is leaking in two different areas. Whole thing will be replaced. We are told it it defective engineering and will happen again in 3-5 years. That these appliances with their small diverters for all the water going through them only last 3-5 years. So we should expect the same repair in another 4 years. Well that stinks!!! We will not purchase KitchenAid again. Stove doesn't hold heat, fridge (3 years old) has had 3 repairs, and dishwasher now 2. They make products to look good, but not last. The good reviews are probably from people who have not had this unit very long.

After a year product is performing as advertised whisper quiet. that's important because wash times with these energy saving products takes 3-5 hours to properly clean dishes . (DO NOT ) rely on BestBuy technicians to install without supervision. They caused over a 1000 dollars worth a damage to my kitchen Causing me to waist time filing claims with their insurance department. Had them install it to keep the warranty intact. Go figure. 2 stars is for the performance of the unit after I made the proper adjustments otherwise it would be zero
