    Good Fridge

Purchased this KitchenAid 27 cu. ft. French Door fridge to replace a 30 cu. ft. LG (compressor went out, which is a giant problem with LG, we found out). While I'm quite disappointed that we had to downsize (no one is making 30 cu. ft. French door fridges now), and this was the only non-LG fridge that came close to that capacity, I'm fairly happy with this new KA fridge. The installation guys dinged the front door as I was watching the installation take place and left without acknowledging the ding, so that fell on me to contact Best Buy. BB, though, was great in promptly replacing the fridge with a new unit (which, incidentally, got dinged, as well, but it was in a much less noticeable location). I'm NOT happy, though, with KitchenAid's cheap, plastic fridge interior. You WILL drop heavy items upon removal, and they WILL ding the silver edges of the shelves/drawers. The drawers are cheap plastic, and the interior of the fridge has a bulky design (too much plastic edging on the glass shelves) that actually takes away storage space that could be helpful for your fridge items. Another mild complaint on this KA model - every time you close either of the fridge doors, you hear a humming that sounds like a dial-up internet connection (I'm dating myself here). Or a phone ring from the distant bowels of the fridge. A positive note - the unit on a whole is quiet. Our KA first unit (the one that was banged up on installation here) was loud & knocked ALL day long. Thankfully, I think this was a fridge problem unique to that unit, and the second KA fridge doesn't have that awful noise. All in all, a good unit. I'm not happy with the cheap feel of the interior, but to buy the largest capacity fridge I could, and to purchase an appliance brand recommended by our repair guy, this KitchenAid fridge is it!

    Hope you don't like ice

The ice maker doesn’t produce enough ice. It is also poorly designed. When the ice is low the bar that moves the ice into the dispenser is too high and just rotates above the ice not moving the ice into the dispenser. The ice tends to thaw and refreeze into a block and prevent the ice from being dispensed. Then the ice being produced goes on top of the block and can’t be dispensed without removing the block and and the new ice. Even with the max ice setting the ice maker doesn’t produce enough ice for 2 people to use on a day. Serviceman came out and said there is nothing that can be done - design flaw. Otherwise, the refrigerator is great.

    Buyer Beware

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I usually have the el cheapo refrigerators, never had an issue with any of them. However, with a family of five that kind of refrigerator is just too small. We wanted something with more space and, having little kids, an easier way for them to get ice and water. We have had Kitchen Aid small appliances that have lasted for a long time (Stand mixer is my grandfathers and still works great, hand mixer from 22 years ago works great) so we went with Kitchen Aid for a refrigerator. SEVEN months after purchase the ice maker stopped working. Someone came out and fixed it. 6-8 months after that, same issue. 6-8 months after that, same issue but with the refrigerator/freezer not cooling properly. Here it is, 9 months after the last fix and ice maker isn't working and refrigerator/freezer is not cooling properly, AGAIN. I'm told I now have to pay to have it looked at and then pay again to have it fixed. This refrigerator is either built to be a money pit or obviously defective. I'm told they "Strive for years of excellent performance", but they cannot tell exactly when a product can have issues and need repair. Years of excellent performance, HA! I haven't had ONE year of excellent performance since purchase. DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SINKING MONEY INTO IT FREQUENTLY.

Good Product but Bad delivery and Installation

We are replacing our old double door refrigerator. So far, we like the refrigerator. It is big with a lot of space. The shelving layout is pretty good. At original delivery date morning, we took the foods out of old refrigerator to get ready for the delivery. I got a phone saying they did not have truck big enough to deliver our refrigerator. They had to reschedule the delivery. They also to me the installation will be a separate appointment since they are two different team. The delivery was good. However, the installation was a different story. Two guys were rushing in and out and hookup our drinking water line. After they left, we noticed some drawers would not close. I found out the the refrigerator was not leveled. I had to do it myself. After few weeks, we still like the refrigerator.

This fridge looks great just wish it worked great. I have had it over two years and the ice machine has been repaired twice already. Once under the original warranty and the other under Best Buy warranty. We drink a lot of water and the filter basically lasts one month not six like they say. I think it’s ridiculous that the filter only lasts 30 days. All I ever get from Kitchen Aid are emails about signing up for automatic filter replacement. It’s a joke. I haven’t had any other problems with it besides the ice machine/water dispenser

Ice maker broken after 2.5 years

Purchased this refrigerator 2.5 years ago when we built our first home. For the most part, it’s been a great refrigerator. The ice maker, however, is already broken. It has stopped working two months ago. We had an appliance repair associate come to the house and he said the ice maker needs to be replaced. I’m disappointed in KitchenAid as it is still a relatively new appliance and it already needs a new replacement part.

My wife and I bought this refrigerator almost 2 years ago, and so far we have had it break down on us 3 times. Our food spoiled, we had to live out of a mini fridge for about a month each time it messed up and each time we contacted Whirlpool it took incredibly long to get it fixed and then there were so many miscommunications between Whirlpool and the company they work with for repairs. The 3rd time it broke down it was under Geeksquad warranty and they worked faster with us, however, the problems seem to be occurring once again just recently. My wife keeps the refrigerator clean, organized, and not blocking any air vents at all. The look is great, the space is amazing, and the measuring ability is what my wife loves most about it, but the quality of the refigerator and the price we paid is definitely not worth purchasing. If I could replace it I would.

Great refrigerator, we've had this fridge for three years and we love it. There are a lot of great features like the door open reminder and the in-door pizza storage in the freezer. The freezer is more spacious than expected and we think the refrigerator includes a lot of options to lay out your storage exactly as you need.

Ice maker stopped working 3.5 months after purchas

I purchased this unit beginning of February. It was working fine but noticed when we opened the fridge a rattling and grinding noise started to happen. I thought maybe shelves were loose but it’s not that. Now the ice maker stopped working completely. Other issues are that the bins do not stay closed nor does the sliding shelve stay in place. I can’t tell if unit is not balanced and don’t see anything that locks the bins in place. I will report this issue as it’s under the 1 year warranty and see what Kitchenaid is made of service wise. A $3k unit should not have issues 3.5 months into use…I am not happy. I had a modest GE that lasted 16 years before compressor went out. I am looking to replace double ovens in near future but if this is what Kitchenaid produces quality wise they are going to be on the non starter list with me going forward. Also I called on a Saturday to see if could get appointment and after 5 minutes of system prompts they say they are closed. Suggestion-When you are closer just say it when you call that number….annoying. I did my home work and the reviews were positive before buying.

    Expensive and Poorly Fabricated Refrigerator

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this refrigerator about 3 years ago for our new home that we remodeled. It worked great until about 8 months ago when the compressor stopped working. It took about 2 months to fix the compressor between availability of a replacement compressor and poor installation of the new compressor by the company the KitchenAid recommends as they overloaded the system with too much gas which caused the refrigerator to not cool properly and freeze. This took two technicians and a couple of weeks to figure out and resolve. A couple of months ago a rust stain developed in the water dispenser area that does not come of with any cleaner that we try. The ice maker stopped working about a month ago. Called the certified KitchenAid technician and $300 dollars I had a new ice maker installed. Two week later after the new ice maker had been installed the refrigerator stopped making ice again. One again I call the technician and now they are saying it’s the control board on the door that might be the issue. Slowly I’m getting a new refrigerator built piece by piece. Not to also mention that the door right below the water dispenser is showing rust which seems to be a common issue for this refrigerator from other reviews that I’ve seen.

Bad Refrigerator Design. Unrepairable After 4 Yrs!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased this refrigerator from Best Buy March 2017. With a 5 year protection plan. Really liked the design and features. It has been a great refrigerator. But then a few weeks ago we found the interior LED lights on the side and top were flickering or not coming on at all. I figured I might need to change some bulbs, but no in the manual it says the LED lights are lifetime. Never need changing. We called Best Buy and they arranged a third party appliance repair tech to visit our home. When I called the appliance company regarding the appointment they said they were going to delay sending out a tech because the flashing LED problem is common problem across this and other refrigerators all made by Whirlpool. They would order the controller boards and other parts. And send out a tech when received. But a day or two later I called them cak and said now we are getting water dripping out of the refrigerator on the right side French door. They were good enough to send a tech the next day. I will get to the bottom line quickly. As the tech explained, not only is the LED light a common problem with these Whirlpool made refrigerators (which can be repaired), the water leaking is another common problem that “is not repairable”. Uh? The water drain line to remove condensate forming in the upper refrigerator section frequently gets plugged. But there is no way to get to it from the back of the refrigerator. The back of these refrigerators is sealed. And Whirlpool will not allow techs to do this. At best they can try some fishing line to try and clear the blockage. But as our tech explained, when the expanding foam is put in between the walls at the factory, the plastic water drain line can be crimped by the foam. It is now a straight drain line either which can also lead to blockage especially if the line gets crimped by the phone. The tech says he sees this problem on these and other refrigerators made by Whirlpool weekly. We stood in the kitchen while the tech called Whirlpool about the problem. There was no issue with the service support person on Whirlpool, and he confirmed that the refrigerator was deemed “not repairable”. So they reported it to Best Buy as such and we are now getting a new refrigerator. Under the 5 year protection plan (well actually a credit that we can apply to any other refrigerator we want at Best Buy). We see that this same refrigerator is again on sale at Best Buy. But checking it out we were very disappointed. The nice looking grey interior has been replaced by a boring white interior. And the drawers inside are much cheaper and without the features we had grown to like. Seems as if they upped the price while making it cheaper to make. With that and the concern that Whirlpool has likely not fixed the drain line or LED light issue we decided to pass. Our new 4 door GE Profile refrigerator is due next Saturday. Good bye Kitchen Aide (Whirlpool) refrigerator!

The ice maker and water stopped working

I bought this refrigerator as well, the first 10 months to a year it was working terrific! The water stopped working and the fridge was not cooling properly. Someone came out to look at it and stated it was the sealant that was causing the fridge to not cool properly. They change out the sealant and it worked fine for about 6 months. At that point we had someone come out to look at; this time was the valve in the back of the fridge. They changed it out and it worked for few months. Since that fix it has happen 4 other times. Each time having to pay and have the same valve changed out. We are extremely frustrated and at this point ready to pitch this fridge. We had someone come this past Friday one more time (10/11/219) and of course 24 hours later it stopped working again. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APPLIANCE.. we have spent more money on the same replacement and extremely disappointed with KitchenAid..

This refridgerator is a quality build and very attractive on the inside. The exterior doesn't appear that it would easily ding. The water and ice is incredibly refreshing and encourages my family to drink more water. The only thing I would recommed is checking to see if the interior of the fridge is what you would want. The inside storage of the fridge is impacted by the ice dispenser. The top inside of the door with the dispenser has very little storage and is just a panel with 2 smaller shelves/bins. The fridge is very roomy otherwise however. The dispenser is nice and quiet. Lòoks great with our other Kitchen Aid appliances .

    KitchenAid Refrigerator and Stove

We purchased our kitchenaid refrigerator and gas stove/dual oven in Late 2019. It is a french door with freezer on the bottom. Water and Ice in the door. We have had to have an appliance repair company out about 7 times in 4 years. We have had water leak problems, LED light problems, filter problems. I think 5 of the calls were in the first year. They would not consider it a lemon. We just conceded that our freezer wouldn't have lights. The upper ceiling lights flicker or go out completely. It is impossible to speak to someone about it. All appliances are registered on their site but once registered you cannot tell which number is to what appliance. All our gas range knobs on our stove have peeled and all you can see now is white plastic. The 'metal' cover on them peeled off. They are over $50 a knob to replace.

    Poor quality

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We remodeled our kitchen 2-3 years ago and went with all KitchenAid appliances (dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, beverage fridge). Unfortunately I have to write this review to let everyone know how unhappy I am with the appliances. The dishwasher rack has broken twice since we installed, the first time KitchenAid replaced the part, but the second time they said we would have to buy it. One of the cast grate tops on our gas stove broke, KitchenAid wouldn’t replace because out of warranty, but we can buy a new one. Now our fridge has stopped cooling, we cleaned the condenser coils and the evaporator coils/fins and still no luck, now we have to hire someone to come and repair the fridge. Also, the handles continually come loose. So within 3 years of using our new appliances they have all had problems. Before we remodeled and updated we had our old appliances for 20+ years and never had a problem (other than the dishwasher handle breaking after 22 years of use). Go with another manufacturer, and keep in mind Whirlpool Corporation owns the Jenn-Air, Maytag, Amana, Roper, and KitchenAid brands, do I would avoid all of these.
