Big Capacity, Heavy Duty Mixing The 7-quart bowl is large: in real tests people have used it to make ~13 dozen cookies, knead over 8.5 lbs of bread dough, or mash 7.5 lbs of potatoes in one go.  This means less batch dividing, which saves time. If you often bake for large groups or double/triple recipes, that’s a major plus.  2. Sturdiness & Stability Because it’s a bowl-lift design (versus a tilt-head), it locks the bowl more solidly in place, which helps with heavy doughs. The unit is heavy (so it doesn’t wander or vibrate much under load).  3. Power and Versatility It has a powerful motor, capable of handling demanding tasks (kneading, whipping, etc.) without overheating. It also offers an expanded speed range, including a half-speed (“½ speed”) for more delicate work (folding in ingredients, egg whites, etc.).  The mix of attachments is useful: flat beater, flex-edge beater, whisk, dough hook, pouring shield, etc. Some designs reduce how much manual scraping is needed thanks to bowl-scraping edges.  4. I've used this a half dozen times now and it works great for everything from whipping heavy cream, to cutting butter into flour, to kneading a heavy dry bread dough. It's quiet and very stable during all the above. It's even easy to wipe clean. I even got it on sale, making it a great value. I did a lot of research before purchasing it because my previous mixer lacked the power to ones bread dough. I am very happy with this appliance.

I have had a few KitchenAid stand mixers over the past 20 years. I bake bread, 2 loaves twice a week, so I am a bit hard on these machines. Currently I am waiting for my 7 qt Proline (with the DC motor) to be repaired, as it had an unhappy gear moment after about 4 years of use. However, I needed a machine in the interim (and as a backup), so I purchased this one. The good news? It's a MUCH better machine than the earlier "Pro 600" 6 qt ones from about 15 years ago. Those were very noisy, and those motors failed a lot. This one is CONSIDERABLY quieter, and runs cool, which is a very big improvement. The not so great news? I would NOT knead two loaves (8 cups) of flour at one time in this mixer; I think it would be pushing it at 6 cups, to be honest. So I am mixing two batches of 4 cups each when I make my bread with it. It handles that amount with no problem at all. And, the knead is quite good, with excellent results, doing it that way. The only other disappointment is that the supplied bowl is very thin steel, with a flat and uncomfortable handle, and there is no knob on the lift lever. However I got it on sale for a huge discount, so I can't really complain about missing those extras...And I have a bowl left over from my old mixer that fits just fine, so I am using that one instead. I have not used the other mixing/beating attachments, nor any of the other accessories, so I can't tell you how those do, yet. I think this is a very good value when it's on sale, as long as you are careful to work within its limitations. I'd hesitate if it was at full price, though.
