I use it to make cakes and when you add ingredients it makes a big mess. The splatter shield doesn’t help much at all.

When we try to use it, the mixer makes a knocking sound. We tried calling Kitchenaid's 800 number, and their voice response system said we would have a 2-hour wait. Don't waste your money on the Kitchenaid item. You can get a generic version on Amazon for half the price, and your mixer won't make a knocking sound.

I have researched this item and the larger size is not offered at Best Buy so I had to order another on the correct size from another company. By the way, there are three different sizes of beaters for KitchenAid Mixers.
