I got this mixer because I love to bake. I had a hand held mixer for awhile but it wasn't cutting it, so my husband got this for me. I'm very familiar with the older models as I have worked with them before and was always pleased. This mixer is beautiful and smooth for the most part. I had to adjust it so the paddle wouldn't hit the bottom of the bowl. It works smoothly, being able to have a nice variety of speeds helps, as not all recipes require the same speed. It is not extremely noisy, and is quite easy to clean up. It is a bit heavy, so I would suggest picking a spot for it and leaving it there, while still having access to it instead of putting it away then having to bring it back out when needed. I enjoiy this mixer and would definitely suggest it.

I originally had a KitchenAid pro 500 series with a 325 watt "heavy duty" motor with metal gears and a solid transmission design which I purchased over 20 years ago from Williams-Sonoma in "Williams-Sonoma Green." I moved, changed to an all black and white kitchen and with hardly any counter space, it was relegated to a hall closet. At 30lbs it was unwieldy at best, so the little baking I did became even littler. I finally sold it. However, I do like to cook and I felt vulnerable w/o a mixer. I figured my Cuisinart food processor would fill the gap, but it didn't quite hit that same sweet spot, and a hand mixer, well, it was just so -- hand mixer. When KitchenAid announced it was coming out with the Artisan-mini it sounded like the perfect solution--a stand mixer that conserved counter-space. I figured I would wait until some reviews were in and now that they are, I'm glad I didn't buy it. It sounds like it's a dog of a machine and at $335 (now it's a bit lower), it seemed comparatively expensive. Also, it's only 250 watts, which is just 25 watts above KitchenAid's hand mixer. It all came down to a big "why bother?" I turned elsewhere. The tilt head machines (Artisan, Classic Plus, Artisan Design) seemed to be plagued by mechanical issues arising from a combination of price-saving plastic and metal parts. Buyers complained about a clanking noise, a grinding sound and metal shavings flaking into food. There were problems with the hinge mechanism-- over time the head would loosen, rock from side to side or break altogether. Models with coated attachments had problems with surface peeling with the result that plastic coating, sometimes in combination with metal shavings and grease, fell into the food. I wanted this as a mainstay in my kitchen, something that would provide years of use, not built-in obsolescence. My philosophy is to buy the right thing once, even if I have to pay more. I was becoming sorry I sold my old model, despite the fact it was green. I then discovered this model which has been discontinued by KitchenAid. It doesn't say it's "solid state" but comments indicate it's all metal parts, and I confirmed with the company it has the Direct-Drive Transmission and All-Metal Construction. It doesn't have the tilt-head mechanism, but instead the more reliable bowl lift design which is a characteristic of the larger models, which is what my old one had. Yes, it's big and heavy, but 5 quarts is still smaller than 6 or 7 and it's powerful, not the puny 250 watts of the Artisan-mini or KitchenAid Classic. According to reviewers this was made in 425 and 525 watt versions. I'm pleased that Amazon intuited my preference and sent me the more powerful 525 watt version. As far as differences are concerned, the paddle, dough hook and bowl seem lighter and thinner than than the ones that came with my old KitchenAid. Items such as bowl cover, pouring guard and quilted cover that were included with my KitchenAid are now sold as "extras," but at least they're available. As far as power is concerned, it comfortably handled cookie dough, but that's not much of a test so we'll see. Are the attachments tough enough? we'll see. on that too. I'll update this as necessary. I did not put the bowl or paddle in the dishwasher. I noticed that a greasy residue remained on the bowl and paddle even after cleaning. I washed it again and again then tried 409 but they still don't feel clean. The bowl also seems to have become stained -- by cookie dough? For an all stainless bowl, I think this is weird. Yes, it's big and heavy but I've made room for this so it can remain on the counter. In terms of price, I got a lot more for less. This was at least $100 less than the Artisan-mini, it's compatible with all KitchenAid's many accessories whereas the Artisan-mini isn't, and I won't need to think twice about what I use it for--it's large enough to handle all my needs and at 525 watts it's a much more powerful and hopefully better made machine than the tilt-head versions. All in all, this seems to be one of the most reliable models available--now if I could only clean that bowl to my satisfaction

I got this for my wife because our mixer broke. The quality of this product is instantly evident in the weight and feel of this mixer. She has used two of the three attachments so far and both have work flawlessly. My only complaint (more of a preference) is that it does not tilt back like the artisan for releasing the attachments. All in all a great product, and I can't wait to get the spiral/peeling attachments later.

Bought this to replace my Cuisinart stand mixer which stripped its gears and is IMPOSSIBLE to find replacement parts in the US. For the price (Best Buy one day sale of $225) - this cannot be beat. At least I know I can get parts for it... Received it in two or three business days. 5 qt capacity is good. Power - for what it's worth - is excellent. Have made bread dough, cookie dough, and assorted other items without any problems. Because it is a Professional bowl lift type, it is much taller than a tilt head unit. I have trim hanging from the front of my cabinets, so this clears the bottom front of the cabinet by 1/16" inch (I store it in a deep corner and slide it forward to use). As for using the lift-type bowl - it's no big deal - mount the side supports first then press down the back to lock it in. Lift it by its handle to remove and it comes out. Looks fantastic, too. I like the coated attachments (dough hook and mixing attachment), if for nothing else than its machine wash-ability and visual aesthetics.

If you want to get serious about cooking and baking this is the stand mixer you want. This model is more powerful and more rigid than the ones with the tilt head. If you're going to use a machine for mixing I don't know why you'd compromise on rigidity or power. I've made countless batches of pasta with this machine, both mixing and rolling with the pasta roller attachments. The accessory drive system is one of my favorite parts. It reminds me of a PTO on a tractor, which I would equate this machine to. A tractor for the kitchen. The design is also timeless, and the Royal Blue color has held up well over the years. Let's all visitors know that you mean business when it comes to cooking and baking.

My wife and I had talked about getting a nice mixer for years. A couple of days after mixing up a batch of cookie dough and wearing our arms out, I saw this on sale and decided to get it. We've now mixed up a couple batches of bread dough and have not been disappointed. It works great. Plenty of power for mixing the toughest dough. When I purchased it, I didn't even realize it has the power port for adding attachments like a grinder, etc. We should have gotten this mixer years ago. Only one downside, and that is the initial cleaning of the mixing bowl. I'd recommend scrubbing it really well with a soapy brush before the first use. Even after I thought I had it completely clean, there was still a bit of something like dark grease that the brush picked up out of the bottom of the bowl. I couldn't really see it on the bowl surface by looking at it, but the brush showed it on the bristles. After that, no problems with cleaning or anything else.

This Christmas, my husband surprised me with my first kitchenaid appliance! I have whined about wanting one for decades. I've been using my mom's 1979 Oster kitchen center since she bought the thing brand new. While old Oster has been getting the job done and helping me create memorable confections, it struggles with dough. Out of the box, the Kitchenaid tackled a dense cake batter and beignet dough without so much as a tremor. I love that the entire appliance is metal (even the high-end mixers have a lot of plastic nowadays). I use my mixer on a steel kitchen worktable that has many other things on it, but nothing jostled or shifted on the table, even when working with dough. Plus, it is quiet compared to my Oster and even my little Hamilton Beach hand mixer. I want to use this every day, but these covid pounds I have don't need friends. I love all the attachments available that could eventually consolidate my many kitchen appliances down to just a few. The attachments are an investment, though. So I'm gonna make a list and tell my kids to follow their father's lead and gift me more kitchenaid stuff!

I bought this an upgrade from a tilt-head Kitchen Aid mixer. In some ways, the tilt-head model worked better. For example, the tilt-head model was better at whipping smaller quantities of egg whites. The motor operates at a different pitch from the tilt-head model, and that's taking some getting used to as well. That said, it's done a great job tackling cake batters, cookie doughs, and pizza doughs. I've used attachments on it (the spiralizer/slicer and the sifter/scale), and they were both very easy. The attachments were easier to use on this model than the old tilt-head. If you bake in larger quantities, this device is very useful.

I was replacing a "vintage" system of another famous Brand with this. Nothing wrong with the other one, just wanted a one-stop, sturdy mixer, and this delivers. It has large single beaters/mixers and the large bowl pops on the side pins, as the beater pops in to the center pin, the up and down bar lifts the bowl and beater up and down, and a slide allows the power adjustment. At the very fastest speed, if the food mixture viscosity is very thin, some may "fly" outside of the large bowl. I wanted to switch to something sturdy, fast, powerful and easy to use, and this delivers.

I have been a chef for 23 years. I don't think I have ever worked in a kitchen that doesn't have a kitchenaid stand mixer. Even the base tier models will last for years. I bought this one to replace classic model I've been using every day for the last ten years in a very high volume kitchen. The great thing about the pro model is that it lifts just like my 20qt hobart. There are tons of attachments, and you can make a variety of things outside of bakery and pastry. These are the best stand mixers in this size range for either home or professional use.

This Kitchenaid mixer is a "supermodel"! The lift option makes use so much easier and less messy. As with any Kitchenaid, the mixer is top quality and substantial. I like the fact that one can use as is or opt to purchase add-on devices for additional versatility. I wouldn't consider another brand!

I absolutely love this mixer! It fits perfectly on my counter and is a powerhouse. I whipped up 10 dozen cookies in it the other day no problem. It is a little louder than other mixers, but that's due to the size of the motor. I've already recommended to several people.

Can't beat a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer

We bought this 500W Pro 5+ Stand Mixer for heavy duty jobs. We have a 325W Tilt Head Kitchen Aid Mixer that has done most jobs for many years, a great mixer for most kitchens. Bigger/heavier mixing jobs are now more frequent due to our baking/cooking growth into other recipes. The 500W Lift-Bowl mixer does the job. The bowl is 1qt larger as well. We like the lift bowl design since it can fit under many shallower counter/cabinet openings without the need to tilt the head back. The lift mechanism is heavy duty and smoothly raises the bowl into a locking position. Be sure to "snap" the bowl back securely to engage the bowl locking feature, that keeps the bowl secure during use/mixing. We will be researching the various power attachment accessories, to see if they would be useful for our needs. We bought another Kitchen Aid Mixer because of our experience with the smaller one. They are designed with quality and durability in mind. They look pretty good in the kitchen area as well. These mixers go on sale periodically, so that's when we took advantage of the price cut. We feel we got even more mixer for the money. Hard to beat a "stand" type Kitchen Aid Mixer.
