A Sleek, Compact Soundbar with Great Sound!

You don’t need an entire sound system to obtain immersive sound from your media. The Klipsch – Flexus CORE 100 is a great soundbar for all your media. Whether you are watching a film, binging a favorite TV Show or simply rocking out to tunes, this sound bar will not disappoint. This is my review of the Klipsch – Flexus CORE 100 2.1 Soundbar. *TLDR at the bottom ========================= IN-THE-BOX/SETUP: Everything in the box is packed and labeled nicely to assist you with setup. You will get the soundbar, a backlit remote control, power cable, HDMI cable, mounting hardware, wall mount template, and a manual. Setup is easy and takes less than 10 minutes. Klipsch gives you options to choose from multiple connections. You can use the provided HDMI cable to connect to the HDMI eARC port on your TV. Alternatively, you can use a digital optical cable (not provided) to connect the soundbar to your TV. I went with the former. Once all the cables are connected, tweak some TV audio output settings and the soundbar should be ready to go! Bluetooth is another option one can use for audio. This setup is even easier. Hold down the Bluetooth button on the remote control to start pairing mode. Next, use a Bluetooth capable device to connect to the soundbar! Need help? The manual is extremely helpful if you get stuck on something. ========================= SOUND QUALITY (MOVIES, VIDEOS): One of the first things I did to put this soundbar to the test was watch a film. I decided to go with Blade Runner 2049. Out of the box, sound is great, the sound is balanced with mostly mids and highs sticking out the most. The lows are lacking slightly but a quarter of the way into the movie I did use some of the built-in features to enhance the soundstage. I enhanced dialog and set the sound mode to “Movie.” I also increased the bass as there is no subwoofer to bring out those immersive lows. All I can say is wow, turning these on did do wonders to the soundstage. Those who have seen Blade Runner 2049 know that this movie has a unique soundtrack. Bringing up the bass brought out those lows of some of the music in the film. Sounds like the rumbling of the spinner(car) was felt through the floor. The film felt more immersive after I turned on those features. I also watched some TV shows like the second season of Squid Game and I don’t have much to say there besides how much more intense this soundbar made the entire show feel. Overall, this is an excellent soundbar by itself for visual media! ========================= SOUND QUALITY (MUSIC): This may be a downside to some but the soundbar does not have Wi-Fi capabilities, as a result, Spotify Connect (audio Wi-Fi streaming) cannot be used. On the bright side, the soundbar does have Bluetooth. I listen to a variety of genres from Hip-Hop, Rock, Latin, EDM, and Pop. I will first say that the sound is a lot better hardwired than wireless but to the average person, this soundbar should still sound great! The instrumental parts of the music do stand out the most with the lows slightly lacking in music that aren’t bass heavy. In music where lows stand out like Hip-Hop and EDM, the soundbar does a great job with the thumping bass parts that makes your floor shake. I did find that after enabling “Music” mode, this brings out the instruments more and the vocals get quieter. Overall, music quality on this soundbar is solid and the average listener should be happy. ========================= FEATURES/OTHER NOTES: I have already covered some features that are included on this soundbar which can be accessed on the remote control. Additional features like an EQ can be accessed through the Klipsch Connect Plus app. The app is optional and the soundbar can be setup without it but there are other features available like adjusting the auto power function and firmware updates that are useful. If you are going to use the app, be sure to turn on Bluetooth and your location for the soundbar to be found. I likely won’t keep the app as I ran into too many bugs.(mostly connection issues) I am running the app on an Android device so mileage may vary. A lot of manufactures of soundbars don’t include a remote control and if they do, a good portion of the time, it is not backlit. Kudos to Klipsch for including both of these things! One item that I did not mention previously was the lack of surround sound with this soundbar.(there are only two channels) The soundbar is not at fault since all the sound is coming towards you in one direction but the best way to listen to your media, in my opinion, is with surround sound. Fortunately, Klipsch does have additional products that can easily integrate with the FLEXUS Core 100 soundbar. There are wireless subwoofers (Flexus SUB 100) and surround sound speakers (Flexus SURR 100) available which I might bite the bullet for to complete this sound system. ========================= CONCLUSION/TLDR: Overall, this is a solid soundbar. Out of the box, this sounds great. By using the remote controller or app you can take advantage of certain features like selecting a sound mode to enhance your listening experience. I found the app to be too buggy and will likely stick to the remote control for the time being. In terms of sound quality, movies, TV shows, etc. will sound great. The lack of lows is noticeable but the soundbar can easily integrate with a Klipsch subwoofer which will certainly enhance your listening experience. As for music, you will not be disappointed, music quality is solid with the instrumentals standing out the most. Overall, if you are looking for a solid soundbar to add to your TV, I wholeheartedly recommend you try this one. Need an upgrade later? This one easily integrates with other Klipsch products so you obtain the full sound system!

From the moment you start opening the soundbar, you can tell that Klipsch put a lot of work into making it a good experience for purchasers. The packaging is very descriptive and obvious, even down to having the remote and cables boxes labeled for your convenience! Furthermore, they used a piece of cardboard packaging in the box as a dual-purpose protection for shipping and to act as your drilling and measurement guide if you desire to mount this sound bar to your wall! All in all, really well designed. As for taking it out of the packaging and hooking it up, it is truly plug and play. No, really, it is. I used my old soundbar’s HDMI and even the power cable (It is a universal two plug barrel adapter type) to hook up the soundbar and much to my delight, it was up and running the audio out of my system, including the full suite of eARC features that allowed me to be able to control of the volume of the soundbar with my Apple TV remote. This is so nice and makes for the smoothest integration into your set up! From the factory, be aware that this soundbar comes with the Bass at ZERO. Yup, you read that right, zero. This can go up to +6, so I was relieved to be able to crank it up when I first fired up my music and hear that this speaker had some more guts to it than its factory setting conveyed. The maximum bass is by no means room shaking, but this soundbar is just here as it stands alone to get your setup started. The bass fills up the room with excellent low frequency tones and thankfully is tuned nicely so as not to have any junky sounding rattle on the soundbar itself. The two modes the remote triggers are Movie or Music. I find that music mode really opens up the mids and treble range and punches out the vocals with distinction. The movie sound mode could be best described as providing audio that acts like a pseudo surround sound and blends the bass, mid, and treble ranges together beautifully. If you twisted my arm and asked me to pick one that I would leave it set to, that would be the movie setting for sure. Ed Sheeran’s song, “Afterglow” just absolutely fills up the room with “all the sound” at volume 30 on the soundbar and with it set to the movie mode. I was in a state of acoustic bliss, listening to the full range of the song as it swept over me. Being able to switch on the fly between these two modes is great and will let users tune each audio experience to their preference. For movies, this soundbar is doing things just right. My go to for testing audio is the famous battle between Gandalf and the balrog at the bridge of Kazad Dum. The whole audio of the battle is projected with excellence from this soundbar. The incredible song of lament that follows as the party members of The Fellowship of the Ring exit Kazad Dum is so gorgeously projected in its range of the alto and soprano singing with the bass and tenors beneath of it. I truly got lost in the sound and forgot for a moment that I was reviewing a soundbar, not just watching one of my favorite movies, haha! The only thing I found to be off-putting audio wise after the song ended was the dialogue between the LOTR characters. I would say on Movie audio mode, the voices maybe have a bit too much “Sparkle” in the higher pitches of speech. Perhaps it was just my ears adjusting to the new audio experience of the soundbar, because I got used to it over time. As the product stands by itself in isolation in terms of quality, I would positively give this soundbar 5 stars out of 5. For this price, however, I just can’t recommend this product to buyers when there are other soundbars out there with an external subwoofer included for the same or even a lower price. As far as my ears go, which are arguably more experienced at reviewing audio products than your average Joe, I am just not hearing where this is a $350 soundbar by itself. It would really need an external sub to be the whole package for a true home theater experience and that is going to set you back another $299.99 for their compatible model. A buyer would be far better off putting their hard-earned dollars towards a different system that can really fill the room with audio with a soundbar, sub, and possibly even surround speakers, as opposed to paying the premium for the name “Klipsh” inscribed on the front of their soundbar alone. I did notice when looking at Best Buy’s offer page for this that Total Tech members can get an extra $71 off as of the writing of this review. This brings it somewhat into a better range, but not everyone can take advantage of this discount. Overall, I love the quality present here that Klipsch is famed for, but at the end of the day, this review is about audio and helping buyers put their dollars where it will matter most. I hope this review has helped you!

    Robust and Substantial Sound Bar

I wasn’t familiar with this brand of sound bar, and wasn’t sure what to expect. It is surprisingly heavy. FedEx delivered it to the porch and I watched my husband struggle to get it into the house (without using the handle). It weighed in at almost 15 pounds and I needed 2 arms to carry it once it was unpacked. This is in contrast to a Samsung sound bar that I can lift with 2 fingers. It’s not slim. It measures 5 inches deep by 3 inches tall - about 1/2 inch taller than the gap under the TV. Since at least some of the speakers are on top, putting it behind the TV muffled the sound, and I had to move the TV back a foot to make room for the sound bar in front of it. All the hardware and tools to mount it on the wall is included, as well as a mounting template. However, I wouldn’t want to mount something that heavy on the wall unless I could attach it to the studs. The soundbar itself does look classy. It’s covered with a substantial textured fabric that looks elegant, but might be difficult to clean when it gets dusty. I was planning on using it in my husband’s garage den which he never cleans, but it might be better to use this one in the house and give him one with more plastic. It came well packed in a very heavy shipping box and a secondary box. The boxes with the hardware, cables, instructions and remote and even the batteries were clearly labeled as to what was in each box. The written instructions were sufficiently detailed so that I didn’t have to search for setup information on the web. The set up options are Bluetooth, HDMI-eARC (cable included), or digital optical (cable not included). The functions of the remote are fairly limited. In addition to volume control and mute, there is a night mode where the sound remains clear at a lower volume, a movie vs music setting, 3 dialog levels and 2 bass levels. When I first connected the sound bar to the TV using Bluetooth it connected immediately and I was even able to use the Samsung remote to control the volume. But when I disconnected the sound bar power to reposition it, it didn’t want to reconnect. The Samsung TV said it was paired, but could not find it. Turning the TV off and on re-established the connection - but only temporarily. Every time I turned the TV off and back on, it reverted to the TV speakers and there was a 30 second process to reconnect the sound bar, including clicking on some prompts to approve the connection. I also lost the ability to control the sound bar sound with the TV remote. I was really hoping to be able to ditch the cables and go with Bluetooth, but dealing with the connection lag every time the TV was turned on and dealing with a TV that sometimes couldn't find the sound bar was too frustrating. I gave up and connected the sound bar with the HDMI cable. Even then I had to remove it from the TV Bluetooth device list to keep it from trying to pair every time the TV was turned on. Finally, on day 5 everything is stable and the TV remote is controlling the sound bar volume once again. The sound is good, much more robust than what I was getting through the slim lightweight Samsung. I just wish it was a half inch shorter so I could get some of it under the TV. As is, it blocks the TV IR sensor when the TV remote is used by someone sitting on the left side of the room. But if either the TV or the soundbar were to be mounted on the wall, that wouldn't be an issue.

The FLEXUS CORE 100 looks great. Install is simple. Controls are simples. App and remote do what you need them to. Input controls, easy Bass boost, volume etc. The app allows for basic eq (bass, mid, treble) +- 6 each. The sound can be very loud. Comparing the base audio from a Samsung 64 inch. There's absolutely no comparison. That tinny behind the tv sound without any base transforms into something far more pleasant and in your face. You don't really realize how much of a difference it is until you A/B test nice piece of music loud. Suddenly you want more however. The Core 100 is 24 inches wide. And I suddenly want double width and more bass. Luckly Klipsch has a couple of options The Core 200 soundbar is 44 inches wide or the Core 100 is expandable with both surround speakers and subwoofer. One startup problem we had was using the simplicity of the Bluetooth connection instead of anything else. It's a couple of seconds to setup and go but comes with a big trade off. The dang thing auto powers down after 10 minutes or so. And that means when you go to resume your show you have to use the remote the turn it back on and reconnect from the TV. That gets pretty annoying after awhile. Luckily there are alternative optical inputs "cable not included" and HDMI ARC. Oddly enough just connecting this and selecting the inputs on a Samsung TV did not just make this happen conveniently. But I was able to get it working by using the TV systems menu to access the "External Device Manager and select Anynet+ HDMI CEC, which suddenly allowed sound output straight to the Core 100 without delay "ok 1 second" or any manual connection process! Finally! Nirvana. So my recommendation for single soundbar setups, probably get the larger Core 200 for wider stereo separation or start expanding right away the Core 100 with Surrounds and Woofer. But straight away compared into nothing at all, it's a massive improvement.

I would give this soundbar 5 stars, but I had difficulty trying to program my Verizon FIOS remote to work with it. I found out that it had something to do with only Bluetooth working between remotes and the soundbar. Verizon uses an infrared signal. I finally did get it to work, quite by accident. I'm not even sure how, but I definitely could not have my FIOS settings use Klipsch for audio. Meanwhile, all else works great. Bass is strong, and for bedroom use, I will avoid adding an expensive sub-woofer. The sound is very good and is better than my Sony TV speakers. Dialogue, especially using the enhancement settings, is very clear. I can't say that the virtual surround sound is spectacular, but again, for a bedroom, it is acceptable. You can control the soundbar with the supplied remote or via the Klipsch app, both fairly versatile. Playing music (using Music mode) on this soundbar produces a great sound. Overall, I am quite satisfied. Setup was easy, by the way. Glad I waited for a sale to make the purchase.

Flexus Core 100 a Very Good Value

First off let me say that I do consider myself an audiophile, Although I am not super finicky with my audio, I do prefer hearing the finer details of my cinema or music audio. You will always find me fine tuning with the sound. My listening is almost 50 Music + 50 Cinema. Which finding a dual setup is difficult, as listening to music requires a Stereo 2 speaker setup. While Cinema listening requires 2-5 speaker setups. This is why in general soundbars are awful for listening to music. With that out of the way, I have to say that this little speaker is VERY impressive in it's output. In our small living room are the lows (without a sub) are very good and fill the space nicely. Voice separation is good when listening to in music or Movie mode (for TV). The only thing missing is the highs seem a little thin. This is because the Flexus 100 does not have a dedicated tweeter, but rather 2 Mids (front firing) and 2 Woofers (top firing). This leads me to the biggest shortcoming of the Flexus system, whihc is it's EQ ability. While the app does give you EQ Presets and Custom functionality, it's very limited to 3 bands of audio (Low, Mids, Treble). And while I do appreciate the fact that there is some customizability to the system, it would be much better if they had at least a 8 or 10 band EQ function available. I think if I had more EQ ability, I might be able to get a little fuller overall sound out of it. Overall I am very happy with the Flexus Core 100 and would recommend it to anyone who might be tight on space looking for a great sounding audio.

I have the core 100 hooked up to my 48" LG B4 and it complements it really well. The sound is crisp and clear and the low end performance of the built in subwoofer is surprisingly really well considering how small the sound bar is. For a small bedroom it is wonderful, although for the price the fact it is missing a center channel is a little disappointing but other than that it is really good. I like the ability to add a subwoofer and satellite speakers and I am glad of it's versatility when it comes to expanding my sound system.

Very good sounding soundbar. It has good bass for its size, the vocals are clear, and I like the night feature which reduces bass (I live in an apartment so this feature is valuable). It’s expandable so you can add surround speakers and subwoofer if you like. I wish it had virtual surround, and Dolby Atmos.

I love the brand, it is looks and sounds great. However, if you really want movie quality, you'll need a subwoofer to go along with it. Regardless, I am pleased with what I paid, how it sounds, and how it looks. The dialogue is much easier to hear. Action scenes sound much more realistic (engines, earthquakes, monsters, etc.). I am happy to recommend this for people who are more price-sensitive.

Pretty good sound. I purchased it because I needed a soundbar with a subwoofer out port, and it was an open box sale at $200, definitely worth it. Not sure it is worth the $349 normal purchase price, as there are combo soundbar and subwoofers for about the same price or maybe a bit more.

Great soundbar if you can get it for a cheaper price. I was intitially using this as a PC soundbar and while the sound and bass was excellent I just needed more source options like aux input. If you intend to use this for home theater then I say its no brainer, get it you likely won't be disappointed and you can always add more later via subwoofer and surrounds.
