    Good, but a few flaws

I like these speakers, but I was expecting better based on past Klipsch purchases. First, I will say that as a general rule I think Klipsch speakers of recent model years are a sonically a cut above the other mass-market speaker brands, i.e. what you will find in a big box store as opposed to a high-end audiophile shop. The highlight are the tweeters, which are crisp, detailed, and airy without harshness or audible metallic resonances. Cymbals and snares are remarkably smooth and natural. The detail is genuine and textured, not simply boosted treble. That said, the air range of the spectrum sounds slightly elevated from flat, but in a way that sounds pleasant and not objectionable. The flaws on this speaker are midbass coloration, a veiled-sounding phono preamp that is notably below average, lack of adequate max volume level via the RCA inputs (bluetooth has plenty of volume), and lack of automatic bluetooth re-pairing. The midbass is too pronounced to the point where it is a minor annoyance. It is an excess warmth that rises above a pleasing if inaccurate coloration to borderline muddiness. This was the biggest disappointment to me in this speaker. I have a pair of non-powered Klipsch Reference series bookshelf speakers with the 5.25" copper woofer, and the bottom end on that pair is wonderful. I was expecting a similar tone from these speakers with less low-bass extension due to the smaller woofer and enclosure sizes. I suspect this is a function of the port tuning. They probably have it tuned a bit higher to maximize output at the expense of low-octave extension and midbass accuracy. I'd bet if it were tuned lower the sound quality would be better. It's not bad, but I actually prefer the bottom end on my cheap chinese Edifiers, although the Klipsches are overall a much better sounding speaker. The next point of contention is the phono preamp. It just doesn't sound very good. On this system, I am using a Teac TN-420 turntable with S-arm and an Audio-Technica AT95e cartridge with elliptical diamond stylus. The Teac table has a built in phono preamp with a switch that toggles the output between phono and line level. Similarly, the Klipsch has a switch that toggles its RCA inputs between line and phono level. Therefore, it is possible to quickly and easily do an A/B comparison between the two phono preamps (the TEAC's built-in pre and the Klipsch's built-in pre) by simply flipping the switches on the back of the turntable and the speaker. The bottom line is, the phono preamp built into the Teac is much better than the Klipsch's phono stage. When switching from the Teac preamp to the Klipsch, the sound degrades equivalent to turning a treble knob down a few notches. Put another way, using the Klipsch's phono preamp effectively strangles the speaker's greatest strength - it's airy high end. Now, in all fairness, the preamp built into the TEAC table is surprisingly good for what it is, and it sounds better than popular outboard offerings such as the U-Turn Pluto and the Schiit Mani. So, I'm comparing the Klipsch to a very good budget-grade phono preamp, but the Klipsch's is inferior sonically to the three others I mentioned here. Now for the RCA input level... the speakers are unable to deliver nearly the max volume level via the RCA inputs that they pump out via a Bluetooth source. It didn't matter whether I was feeding the Klipsch RCA inputs with phono level or line level signals. When I connect my phone via bluetooth, the speakers can go much louder. I didn't test the USB, TRS AUX, or OPTICAL inputs. Lastly, bluetooth pairing was a little clunky. It took a long time for the Klipsch speaker to show up in the Bluetooth settings of my Galaxy S8 phone. Once paired, it worked well with very short range (started having dropouts at about 15 feet away line-of-sight). And, you have to re-pair each time, there is no automatic reconnection. Given all of this and given the price of the speaker, I wish there were an option for 3.5 stars. This review site defines 3 stars as "average" and 4 stars as "good." These speakers are clearly above average in sound quality, but worth less than 4 stars at this price point given these shortcomings. Another note: I tried to write a review on the big online retailer's site, where I write a ton of reviews, and it wouldn't allow me to submit a review. I received an on-screen message saying "reviews for this item are restricted." I've never seen this before when attempting to review any other item. It makes me wonder if perhaps the manufacturer is trying to prevent critical feedback from affecting sales? Speculation, but it does make me give less credence to average review numbers when evaluating offerings from this brand. In the end, I wouldn't recommend this to a friend. Not because it is a bad speaker- in fact it is a pretty good one. I would simply say if you're willing to spend extra to get a premium product like this, then get the 5.25 inch version which has a much better bottom end and lacks the midbass bloom. And if your ear isn't critical enough to be annoyed by that bloom, then you'd probably be just happy with a lower priced offering with less quirks from an alternate manufacturer, such as the Edifier R-1280DB.

These klipsch monitors were very easy to setup. Actually there was no real setup. Just put them where you want them. And connect them with supplied speaker cable. The left speaker contains the power amp and all the switches and power supply. Possible connections options include usb, optical, RCA for sub, mini jack, rca w/ ground for turntable. There’s also a volume control. Crazy number of hook up options. Remote control, included, allows switching between the various options. I used with audio interface, headphone out on MacBook, and connected to my turntable. All worked great. This is a definite buy. As Klipsch , They sound great. I will hook up one of my subs when I make these my turntable daily driver.

i bought these to use with my phono player I got for Christmas, the highs and mids on these speakers sound real good, nice and crisp, with that being said my problem is there is too much mids and no bass at all, you must purchase a sub to go with these speakers. I set these up with a sub and it sounded pretty darn good other than the fact I cant turn the mids down a tad . i paired the Bluetooth to my phone and played my music and was able to use the eq on my phone and finally tweek them to my liking. I bought the insignia bookshelf speaker set, and tried out numerous other speakers and none of them were close to the sound that comes out of these Klipsch speakers so in my opinion they were the best speakers out of the ones I tried, if they had a tone control knob to fade out some of the mids i would of gave them 5 stars

I bought these as an open-box item in *excellent* condition. The first shipment was a disappointment. No accy's and all scratched up. Back they went. BB was very good in understanding the issue. I had to re-order again. And this time it was in excellent condition. The speakers tend to be on the high. I would recommend you also get a sub-woofer. It does so much to the experience! I like that the remote lets you change the bass-level. I use it all the time. I also connected my Google Home Mini smart-speaker to the unit. Any speech would still come from the Mini but the music would be played through the Klipsch speaker via Bluetooth. Love the product!

    Good Multi Purpose Speaker

This multi purpose speaker is a good compromise as long as you understand these are like multi function printers. Like MFPrinters, they are a combination of individual components (printer, copier, scanner/fax). There are compromises since the ultimate choice would be each individual component. If you do not want a separate receiver, speaker & sub, phono connetivity with multiple inputs & bt because of space limitations/price, these are good speakers. The 41 @ 35 watts is ideal for smaller applications, i.e. home office/study, dorm, etc. The 51 @ 65 watts would be better for larger applications although the 41 does a great job.

The Klipsch speakers are great for a room

Went to Best Buy with the intention of getting a pair of bookshelf speakers for a medium size bedroom turned office space, and planned on spending $125 - $150. While I found options in this area, none sounded close to these Klipsch which were in the $320 range. I have the powered Klipsch hooked to my direct drive Audio Technia turntable and primarily play classic rock albums. The sound is great and crisp in a room roughly 18' x 18', and the volume would likely fill a room twice the size. The remote control is a plus. I would have regretted saving a bit of money to sacrifice a great set of speakers.

I have a Klipsch home theater system and had wanted these powered speakers for a Korg keyboard in a music studio. Ended up buying 2 sets while they were on sale and connected the second pair to a high end computer system. They sound great on both sources. I added a DCM powered subwoofer I had leftover to the Klipsch monitors attached to the computer and does it ever sound awesome. Recommend these to anyone that loves pure sound. After hearing them, our computer builder and tech went out and bought a set too.

Purchased these on sale and for the price these are exceptional! Plus, the sound gets better the more they are used as they slowly break in. They are primarily used as TV speakers and work nicely as such. Clean setup and aesthetics and are a much better alternative to a soundbar in terms of sound quality. I like that we can add a sub down the road if we choose to, however, the bass is impressive already for their current purpose. Highly recommended, especially at a sales price!

Let me start by saying that these speakers are a must have! I went to Best Buy and listened to the display Klipsch had set up and I was not impressed. Not sure if it was because of the environment or what but I left without buying them. I kept reading the reviews and they all were positive, so I took a chance and bought them. Once I set them up at home I was shocked on how great they sounded!! Nothing like the store demo. Buy these speakers!!

They're Klipsch, what would you expect except greatness? I am using this particular pair connected to my PC via a dedicated sound card. Crystal highs, great mids, and good mid-bass for a 4" woofer. I have a sub running from them to pick up the low end. I edit video and sound, these are awesome for making sure everything is perfect.

These are great sounding speakers that are just small enough to be used as desktop computer speakers. The sound is well-balanced. Connectivity is comprehensive unlike some competitors. The Only downside is that the Dynamic Bass EQ is the default setting which must be manually defeated at start-up.

I have Klipsch 10" sub to ever so slightly and ever so nicely enhance the base. This second set is intended to give me quad sound. I haven't figured out how to drive all 4 together even though I'm using a USB splitter off the same port of my computer. When I do, I will be in heaven!

The sound is pure always! You can adjust old not perfect to almost perfect now. There are those that completly believe in analog, however speakers are analog. They only deliver what they are sent. You can hear complete sound at the touch of a button with these. I did however buy a subwoffer to get the best sound.

These are really nice speakers, sound really good with a Sony bluetooth turntable. Got the insignia speakers to start with, but the quality and sound of these compared to the insignia’s is like night and day, with klipsch being the obvious winner. Thanks.

These speakers sound really good for their size. Volume is not a problem even for a large room. They have a bass setting you can use which makes the bottom end come alive. Multiple ways to input your music.

These speakers obviously aren't cheap but for the way they sound it seems like a bargain. These pack so much body and depth within their sound in such a small body that it is honestly surprising, I love these they are incredible.
