I purchased four of these as part of my surround system. They have good base and excellent highs, and also sound great for playing music.

Good but know what they are

Some reviewers seem to think they are updated RF-82 II's, but they are not. These are basically renamed synergy series speakers, the RF-82 IIs are of better quality and a better overall speakers at a much higher price. But for what they are they are pretty good, not worth full price though, so look for a sale. These are great mid range speakers that will do rock and roll and hip hop proud. They will play loud without any distortion and have very solid bass, famous Klipsch midrange and good highs as well, nothing is missing. My main speakers are Klipsch Fortes that I bought 25 years ago... they still sound like new, Klipsch speakers don;t use foam surrounds that rot out in 5 to 10 years like many other companies.

Much smoother than last year's Icon speakers

I had purchased a full icon set last year including the towers, center, surrounds, and 450 watt sub. Based on the front towers alone these have a much smoother, less harsh tweeter. I've always wanted a set of reference speakers but in my area of Illinois they are hard to come by. I was very pleased when best buy started carrying them. I have them hooked up to a new Yamaha 577 network reciever (I highly recommend). I have them bi-amped and paired along side the new 12 inch 400 watt sub (I'll review separate. Overall I love these speakers and would highly recommend. I only have two gripes. Last year's reference models had magnetic grills, these do not and they take a while to (fit) to.the speaker properly. The first couple of days I owned them I noticed the grill would be popping off on the top and bottom. I guess it just needed to stretch out it eventually quit and they fit fine now. My last gripe is the floor models had a gold Klipch emblem on the top of the grill signifying that you own reference speakers. Somehow both of mine escaped the factory without the emblem. I called klipsch and they said they will happily replace the grills under warranty but won't have any in till early October. I called Best Buy to make them aware the situation and they are letting me swap them out for a pair of new grills in store. I love the Fairview Heights store. Everyone there is extremely helpful. Don't waste time deciding. Buy these speakers if you've got the money!

The speaker is able to hit the highs clear and well, but lows get drowned out with the bass

A lot of other reviewers had complained that the highs were very bright. I was inclined to ignore them until I got it home. They were right. The highs were almost piercing, and it took the pleasure away from listening. Returned them...still searching for a replacement.

I only needed the first few minutes listening to my new R-28F's to know that I've made a good choice. I've held off buying Klipsch for a long time because they were to rich for my pocket. I finally pulled the trigger because I'm an "elite" member at Best Buy and I am getting pretty good deals, not as good as this past black Friday but I digress. These are one of the few speaker brands that were around in the days of my youth and have always wanted but were never a priority. I'm using an older Sony receiver with 115 watts a channel with the volume set over 3/4 the way up. My first choice with my new towers was to rock my roof off, so I did... I played Rush- working man Then VanHallen's eruption and Ain't talkn bout love.... The mid tones have a very clear and rich sound while the highs are crisp and not tinny. The changes that Klipsch has made to their speaker line makes these an exceptional midpriced speaker that I think most everyone will like. These babies have a slight punch to the base but that's still not enough for my taste. The new R-112 SW I ordered should take care of the rest of the heart thumping base I want out of my hard rocking music. It's my firm belief that there should be two subs in a room to remove the directionality from a single, so one more will be in my near future if the first one works out...

Great sound after Denon Audyssey setup

These are Best Buy exclusive from Klipsch. Once upon a time they might be called Reference I. Best Buy calls them simply Reference speakers. They are the follow-on to the Klipsch ICON which I believe are also the follow-on to Synergy. Like a bunch of folks here, bought these on Black Friday for half price. The horns sounded a little harsh in the store, but read some reviews here and for my Denon S900W receiver and took the plunge. With the Audyssey auto-setup on the Denon, these speakers are excellent. Highs are smooth, great mid range and even good base. They replace my 33 year old RtR IV-C series that I moved to the family room. Was worried that the K-28F's would not equal the RtR's in base performance (RtR's have their own 12in woofer before Sub-woofers were invented#. But, I was wrong. These copper wound aluminum 8-inch drivers have a great low freq capability. They can even stand on their own in a two speaker audio set up without a sub-woofer. I have a 5.1 setup with these K-28F's in the front, K-26F's as surrounds, K-25C for center, and my older Klipsch Synergy 10" 250w sub. Absolutely awesome with Blu-ray. And, when I set a stereo signal to DTS Neo 6 for FM or Internet Radio, they really put out some serious rock. These are NOT the same as ICONs because they incorporate the copper wound into the aluminum drivers. ICONs only have aluminum. They are not as good as KF-28 II's #which are Reference 2's# but they serve my purpose at half the cost. Don't buy these at $449. Wait until next Black Friday and take the plunge.

I am very impressed with the sound reproduction of the speakers and I'm coming from several sets of high end speakers over the years Infinity Polk Bose .......This is the first time I actually like the sound I heard coming from a set of speakers without having to tweak them I must say if you have bi amp capability it's a must it goes from great to exceptional if you can do this I am pushing these and a set of rf26 and 2 Polk 505 subs and it does not need to be pushed sound quality is there from high to low range and horns are bright but not annoying I spent more in past but these are by far best sound reproduction I have ever produced at very modest price It's a no brainier Buy them you will Love Them

i bought a set of these towers on 8-2-14. i replaced the old 1970's 3 way style 12in speakers i had. if you check these out in a store like best buy. youll be blown away at the difference between these and the rest of whats available anywhere near this price range. its pretty bad how these outshine everything around them. i love the tweeters. you can hear amazing high. bullets flying by your head. windows smashing into peices the clairity is really really nice. the 8in mids do put out some decent lows and maybe good for the average user. but if your really into youre an audiophile, you will want for sure the 12in sub to go with it **WARNING**. after you get these you will notice if you have other speakers how muddy the other ones are and you willl want to finnish the set lol. this happened to me so now i own the full set of klipsch reference line for a full 5.1 surround sound. i did not get another set of satalights to make the 7.1 but thats because i bi-amped these towers and the money. lets face it its $2000 for the full set. thats not something just anybody can run out and buy. but compared to any other set of speakers even remotly close to this price range, these will outshine them all. and i highly recomend spending the little extra money on these. if youre seriously looking into buying them dont wait. theyre beautiful, not as powerful as i had hoped, but very very clear so to me that trumps all. so definately great job klipsch !

I wanted to get a new set of speakers for a second TV, and was looking at these -- thinking they'd be sub-par to my trusty Cambers. But I decided to make these my main speakers and am thrilled with them. I have one sub-woofer, and moved it with the Cambers. These Klipsch speakers deliver some deep bass; I don't even miss the subwoofer. I can rumble the room with it! They sound awesome just watching Breaking Bad through Netflix. Not a weak link in the Netflix-Roku-Onkyo-Klipsch chain. Blown away!

Bought these last summer and i must say this is the best investment i have made. The video is only half the experience, these speakers will help bring the sound stage to life. Pair these floor speakers with a timber matched center like the R-25C. Throw in a couple of bookshelf or surround speakers and you will have an incredible 5.1 or 7.1 surround system that will be the envy of all your friends.cant beat this for the price.

I bought a pair of Klipsch computer speakers, a Klipsch 10" 300 watt subwoofer and looked at these speakers. The sales person told me to wait until black Friday and get them 50 percent off so I did, was hard to do but I made it! I bought these to replace a pair of Bose 301's. I hooked them up to my Denon AVR E-400 and was blown away right away! They are rather big, but you cannot beat the sound of a good pair of towers! I am so impressed with the Klipsch that I have, I am planning on replacing all of my Bose with the Klipsch, they are AWESOME!
