This movie is so very great and awesome to watch!!

A action-packed Kong adventure and slightly different from other Kongs in that the reason for seeking out Skull Island is ultimately revealed to be personal and not for profit. The cast is all game, especially Samuel L. Jackson (as always) and John C. Reilly. But everybody else is game, especially the beautiful Brie Larson. But Kong is the main attraction here and he is different than the Peter Jackson Kong in that he doesn't walk like an ape but constantly stands like a human,yet still retains his ape looks. The special effects are top-notch, with Kong looking phenomenal and other monsters on the island looking very realistic. It's non-stop action and thrills from start-to-finish so scoop this movie up and add it to your library. You won't be sorry!

I purchased this for the "3D" disc and was glad that it came with the 4K disc as well, More studios should do this to increase consumer good will so when industry changes take effect, such as the 4K intro, consumers will be more inclined to adopt them. It's a shame that the movie industry is actively killing the home 3D experience. Watching a 3D movie at home is often better than the movie experience since not all theater screens are properly set up to provide the max 3D experience. Regarding Kong SI, the movie has some awesome 3D effects that really showcase what a fun movie this is and hopefully the franchise follows this path.

Kong: Skull Island isn't a special movie nor is it one of the most exciting films to come out this year. However, as an unabashed fan of monster movies, I had to see this on the big screen and spend over $30 for the steelbook. The movie is fine and has its moments, but above all else: Kong is King in this film. As for the steelbook design, I absolutely love it and am currently looking into purchasing the poster with the same design that beautifully embodies a Vietnam war movie mixed with monster movie DNA. The special features are great and I would recommend this purchase to anyone who is a collector or is just looking for a fun 2 hours.

Thanks Best Buy for offering the 3D disc in this package. Much appreciated (though 3D is dead for most of the buying public). If you don't know what to expect with this disc, uh, really? There's a big monkey, on an island. There's stupid people that don't understand they are going to an island with all sorts of monsters and potential danger. There's flashy graphics throughout, with loud music and sound effects to shake, rattle and roll if you have a good sound system. In this particular package/bundle you also get a nice steelbook case. This isn't a bad film at all, and really, it contains plenty of action, to keep you interested throughout. It isn't academy award type drama, but as a popcorn flick, it is not bad at all.

This was an entertaining monster flick that doesn’t wait too long to let you see Kong. Unlike Peter Jackson’s Kong film or the last big-budget Godzilla flick you don’t have to sit around for an hour to see the title character. It is a period piece set at the end of the Vietnam War. Someone is definitely paying an homage to “Apocalypse Now” here. However, it’s a popcorn film so there is plenty of monster mayhem. It’s not going to win any awards and still could have been trimmed by ten minutes or so but it will definitely entertain you. Also, has a good main cast (Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly). I purchased this as aBlack Friday deal as a stocking stuffer for a friend.

As a parent, I usually straddle the line with my kids and PG-13 movies. I watched this with my 8 year old son and was a little concerned about the violence and language (he loves Jurassic Park movies and doesn't seem affected by it). There were a few curse words (F-bomb, etc) but nothing overly gratuitous. The violence was a little bloody but mostly cartoonish and nothing too grotesque. I would say it's probably better suited for 11-12 years and up. We had a long talk about bad language and fiction vs. reality and he responded well to our discussion after the movie. For the movie itself, it was a fun adventure movie with good suspense. Very similar to Jurrasic Park in terms of the "ride" you go on, but JP is a much better film.

I was very excited when I saw the first trailers for this movie and saw it the first weekend it was released. What a GREAT show and for ALL ages. Good story line, great special effects, comical in spots, gorgeous jungle settings just an overall great time spent watching this movie! I can't recommend it enough. It's worth every penny at full price and even better if you catch it on sale! Do yourself a favor and pick this up for your next home family movie night, there's nothing currently at the theaters that's any good any way so this'll hold ya over till Justice League, Thor:Ragnarok & Star Wars :-)

Was surprised that I liked the movie after so many kongs and remakes etc. The story is a bit different than the other ones. This one has action galore as soon as the movie begins. Unlike the previous one where it takes about an hour into the movie before u c kong. Good acting by the whole cast. As for the 4k format, wow. What a picture. I own a bunch of 4k and had been a bit disappointed with most of them quality wise. I mean the other 4k titles look good too but this one topped them all. Really beautiful scenes. Highly recommend this movie for the action and for quality of picture and quality of sound.

Like this movie for its action sequences. Although the plot is not the most original, its not terrible either, and I personally think it does the job regarding the set up of the monsterverse for a future crossover with Godzilla

Enjoyed the film in the theater so was anxious to get it for home... really glad they decided to offer a bundle of the 3D version with the 4K. While I understand those folks who are necessarily into the 3D, I'm in the camp that enjoys it, so I'm often found having to choose one package over another when it concerns the home version. The movie itself is fun enough, and lays (or rather continues) the groundwork for future monster movies. The timeline for this one is in the 70s for a younger Kong, so it will be interesting to see how this lines up for future films, especially when it comes to Godzilla!

Loved it, but full disclosure - I'm a monster movie mega-fan, so this may be biased. Samuel Jackson never fails to deliver, and the supporting cast was very well chosen. I like that the movie is about King and remains about KONG - not forced into a social-lesson drama or a romance novel. It's about KONG. I watched it on an Ultra 4K tv, and the blu-ray did just fine. No loss of quality on special effects. If you like monster movies - you'll love it. If not, you'll like it enough to be entertained.

King Kong, America's answer to that giant lizard from Japan. Kong : Skull Island isn't really a smart movie, but if you want to escape the dullness of your day, it is a fun 2 hours of wonderous monster fights, a pretty woman, (it is King Kong), a band of unlikely characters working together, and a squad of soldiers with a blood thirsty officer in charge trying to kill the great King Kong. Plus it looks great sitting next to my collection of that giant lizard from Japan.

Once again the studios got it right. This release was a combo pack consisting of the 4k UHD, 3D Bluray and Bluray disks. I prefer the 3D version because it's more of an immersive feel to the movie, however, the 4K release the colors really pop when compared to the standard Bluray edition. Overall, if you enjoyed this movie, you will not be disappointed with the combo pack steelbook edition. Here you will get the best of ALL worlds. As I have stated in other reviews of 3D Blurays, I recommend you have a Passive 3D T.V. because the flickering glasses that come with Active 3D T.Vs really bother me.

I among many people thought this was a sequel or prequel to the Peter Jackson 2005 remake of King Kong. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to find out this is a brand new take on the KONG character. Unlike previous KONG installments this KONG is freaking HUGE instead of climbing a sky scraper this KONG is as tall as one. The movie is very fast paced and KONG turns out to be very angry with Humans for the destruction of his Island. He seeks out revenge to end them all. This movie will no doubt spawn many more follow ups in this new retelling of a iconic favorite. Highly recommended.

I am only commenting on the exclusive 4K and 3D (and blu ray) Steelbox set for Kong...not the movie itself. This is the way finicky collectors want their movies packaged - both high end versions together. I am not here to argue the relevance of 3D as I am a 3D junky and the difference in visual fidelity 4K can give certain productions is at times stunning. Both version are exceptional in this set. It didn't take me a second to purchase this amazing offering. I also recommend the 4K version of Peter Jackson's (Ultimate) King Kong as it yields details that were otherwise not distinct before.

I have to say the movie was fast paced and kept my interest but I don't know how many more Kong sequels need to be made. I will say this one did have good special effects and was entertaining. Getting it on sale was a plus.

Granted, one could argue that since it doesn't include the standard DVD too this isn't quite a complete package. But, they included BD, BD3D and UHD, which is a rather rare combo, in a premium metal case, that actually has artwork inside this time. The inclusion of both 3D and 4K in a Steelbook is no doubt the reason Warner made this release more pricey then usual. If we were less enthusiastic about seeing the film, the price might have given us pause. But we missed this in the cinema and as a family that doesn't support Hollywood's streaming agenda, we couldn't wait any longer to see it at home. The movie didn't disappoint and the Steelbook somehow survived Best Buy's ridiculous packaging.

Reimagining a classic is always a tricky thing to do. Sometimes it works (Peter Jackson's King Kong) and sometimes it doesn't. Skull Island falls in between. There's certainly a lot to like about this movie, but there were also some moments that, while paying homage to the original, came out of nowhere. Kong's reaction to the lead boy and girl had no real build-up and therefore seemed very unbelievable. Unfortunately, there's little to make you like this Kong, unlike Peter Jackson's fully developed personality oozing Kong. There is, of course, plenty of great action and awesome CGI, but there's not much heart in this flick. Therefore, a good movie but not the great movie it could have been.
