New Awesome Take On A Classic

This is the first King Kong film in the entire lore that doesn’t hang its hat on the “Beauty and the Beast” concept. There are still hints or elements of this, but nothing close to all of the past films. I also love the concept of Kong being a godlike guardian protecting the island inhabitants from subterranean unworldly creatures. I am also a huge fan of the fact that this film takes place during the Vietnam era (Which allows great classic rock songs in the soundtrack). I am excited to see how this new expanded world of Monsters comes together in the future.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the film in theaters, but waiting for the 4K release was worth it. First the film itself was excellent! Great story, unique perspective, and good acting. The creatures were different, and the idea of leaving Kong on the island, was a nice change of pace. As for the 4K, and Dolby Atmos sound, WOW!!! The picture was stunning, the sunset blew me away. And the surround for creature moving about, and the explosions was fantastic. Each passing year, the home theater experience just gets that much better, and this movie proves it.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND was surprisingly a really good movie. The special effects were excellent and the story turned out to be much better than what I had expected. KONG is a great character and looks amazing in this movie. The Blu Ray disc version of this movie looks and sounds FANTASTIC. I haven't watched the 4K version yet, but the Blu Ray is excellent! It's great to have this movie in 3D as well. This version of the movie comes in a very nice Steelbook with the Blu Ray version, 3D Blu Ray Version, and 4K version!! That's as good as it gets right there.

Enjoyable movie that makes you think how can Kong beat Godzilla? When Kong is shot by the helicopters he bleeds quite easily. When Godzilla was shot by more advanced weaponry it didn't faze him. Enough with that. The movie does mention Kong is still growing. So one would think how much bigger can he get? I wasn't particularly blown away by the movie, but I was surprised as well. I know an oxymoron to say the least. We get to see Kong a lot more, than we ever did with Godzilla and he shows up quite quickly. The special effects (CGI) is excellent and it didn't take me out of the movie. The story is good and throws in some laughs here and there.

Good 4K movie, even better 3D movie

I wouldn't call this movie demo worthy because it mixes 3.4K and 2K assets resulting in CGI visual defects. Some of the CGI scenes on the 4K disk looked horrible, you get the sense CGI characters are disconnected from the environment. On the flip side human faces, color, environment textures come across pristine with little to no visual anomalies. The 3D movie fared much better as everything is in 2K resolution resulting in less visual distractions going from live to CGI scenes. Any scene with particle effects was a splendor to watch. Most of the shots in this film shows sweeping distances created amazing depth to showcase 3D effects.

Like action movies and this one just filled my cup of tea! I liked the storyline from the get go involving frustrated career military people at the wind down if a war that was not lost but forgotten. Combined with a team of scientists and purported expeditionary guides and a photographer along with the assault helicopter company they set out for this mysterious island that nobody is ever set foot on only to find that Kong is here and rules the island! Rather than tip the story and spoil it for the next viewer, recommendation is to watch it...

Great visuals, pacing, and cast carry this Kong reboot. Everyone, including the more expendable smaller parts get to shine with some engaging banter. Intriguing choice to set it during the Vietnam conflict. While I did enjoy Peter Jackson's love letter to the original 1933 version, I feel this one succeeds in so many more areas. It doesn't drag on like most studio epics. I love that studios have learned that franchise films don't have to be 3 hours long to be enjoyed or have staying power. A must have for one's collection, especially in 4K!

    Kong Reimagined

The Kong story is pretty securely entrenched in the media archives. He's not under assault from creative writers. His essence has been distilled and used to deliver newer and slightly different themes into the movie catalog. This one begins as the end of the Vietnam War. I suppose you can find a message here if you ignore the action, but you could also simply let the rush of aggression and testosterone, wrapped in slick effects and narrative entertain you. I'm gonna ignore the message and turn the volume up. Great 3D and thunderous bass.

It' Kong in 3D, what's not to like. A/V is awesome, and the 3D is outstanding from my projector. I would have given this 5 stars but for the price of the movie I feel they chinzed out on the packaging. A nice lenticular slip (which should be standard for a 3D release) would have been sweet.

Enjoyed the volume and presence of the 3D version MUCH more than the UHD film. So immersive in certain scenes! It's no Avatar and not even Jurassic Park 3D, but still better than the flat version. My only gripe is that Best Buy releases far fewer 3D movies than they used to. For instance, Ghost in the Shell 3D, XXX return of Zander Cage 3D, Smurfs the lost Village 3D and other new releases have to be purchased at Fry's, Target, Amazon or other retailers. I want to give my money to Best Buy but they just won't take it! Lol

I didn't go into this with any expectations, as I have been disappointed by the last several years of big budget Hollywood titles. I watched the movie based on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. This was a surprisingly good remake of a story that has been told countless times. There's a new twist to this story with the introduction of a post-Vietnam War setting mixed in with tones of the 1930's adventure and science fiction. John Goodman and Samuel Jackson play major roles in the storyline, but it's nice to see them supporting a new age of younger talent.

I don't review the movie, we already know what the movie is about, I'm reviewing the blu-ray release. The movie is fun and two hours goes by quick, the audio and video are near perfect, not quite reference quality but real close. The awesome soundtrack really comes through in 7.4 surround sound and the bass is powerful without being boomy. Great use of the surrounds. Loaded with extras too, just wish new release prices weren't through the roof, I waited until this went on sale, like I do all new releases now...

Movie looks good in UHD and the Dolby Atmos soundfield was good. Probably the best part of the Atmos is the opening with Studio credits with all the plane sounds circling your speakers. Digital copy can be redeemed at VUDU in UHD with Dolby Vision & Atmos. The movie overall is fun and entertaining. Definitely is repeat watchable over & over again. If you didn't see at the theater, make sure you watch thru the end credits to see the extra scene leading up to sequels with other monsters and another Godzilla movie.

I must admit I am not a fan of monster movies and/or creature features that either shows or rely on the titular creature too heavily because it takes away the mystery, the intrigue, and most of all the ominous presence. With that being said, Kong: Skull Island is definitely the most action packed creature feature that I've seen that actually manages to keep momentum throughout. The movie is visually stunning and at times rather inventive even with the overuse of Kong himself but highly enjoyable nonetheless.

I bought this steelbook mainly for the 3D version of the movie, rather than the 4K. If I had to choose between 4K and 3D, I would choose the 3D version almost every time; I'm just more impressed with the 3D movies I have seen on my LG OLED than I have been with 4K HDR movies overall. And, let me say, "Kong: Skull Island" in 3D does NOT disappoint! This is a beautiful example of a movie done correctly in 3D, and it shows. Eye dropping visuals, and great action. The 3D version of this is highly recommended!

From the steelbook to the transfers, this is how to do it. If it was in 3D in the theaters then include it in the set. There are quite a few patrons who own 3D and enjoy it. Of course 4k is fabulous and I enjoy that as well. Please, if you enjoyed this movie reward the studio for this outstanding set and purchase this. Some may think that digital is the way to go, but those who enjoy home theater trust me digital/streaming is not an equitable trade. Go out and buy this!! Now!!! Please and thank you!!!!

Wasn't sure how much I'd like this after Peter Jackson's great film, but I loved it. This is not a retelling of the beauty and the beast love story, but takes place in the 70's on Skull Island. Just a different version, but loads of fun! A bigger, badder Kong. Looks like they're lining up sequels already as we get a slight peek at what's to come after the credits roll. Looks like Godzilla is next, even though we just had a great remake recently. Maybe it'll be Kong vs. Godzilla? Time will tell.

Having seen a slew of negative reviews, I waited a while to pick this up, but it was worth the wait. I wasnt expecting much, but what I got was one of the best monster movies I'd ever seen. Great casting and of course the monsters are amazing (there are more monsters than just Kong, who is the least of all the monsters in this movies). No spoiler, but the post-credit scene pumped me up so much for what is going to be coming soon... bring on all the monsters. also get this movie, its amazing.

All I can say, is that I'm glad King Kong got it in on Samuel L Jackson. That was the best part of the movie. And all the other stuff escaping the island with cool and learning a little bit about it. I'm really interested in the post credit scenes and how that's going to come into play. I got the movie just to see the post credit scenes because I missed it when I left the movie theaters. Nevertheless, it was a nice through ride to watch it with friends and family. I'm just glad can't find was always in his natural habitat mean, stronger, and bigger than ever!
