The sound is way too low. I usually set my tv around 10 to 15 on the volume meter. For this movie though we had it around 50, if we didn’t we could not hear a thing. The movie is good though and it comes with an UV copy, no iTunes though.

    Neo-Noir at its Very Finest

L.A. Confidential begins with the introduction of its fascinating major characters. There's Ed Exley (Guy Pearce), a young cop who aspires to surpass his dead father's legendary record. There's Bud White (Russell Crowe), tough enforcer with a vendetta against wife-beaters. Last but not least, there's Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey), a cool narcotics detective who serves on the side as a consultant for a "Dragnet"-style cop show called "Badge of Honor". There's a slew of memorable side characters, particularly James Cromwell as Dudley Smith, the police captain who may not be as straight as he seems, and an unforgettable turn by Danny DeVito as Sid Hudgens, the lead editor for a trashy tabloid called Hush Hush for which Vincennes often makes celebrity busts. The story is very elaborate, yet perfectly established by director Curtis Hanson and writer Brian Helgeland. It begins with a brutal mess of police brutality at the police station, which leads to the discharge of several officers, including White's partner, Stennsland, and the promotion of Exley, who snitches out the cops. When Stennsland turns up dead in a brutal robbery, a lengthy investigation ensues, which eventually involves all of the detectives and turns up layers of corruption that reach unthinkable levels. This is a great mystery, a great thriller, and just an all-around great film. It's very impressive, and it's a must-see.

    Great film

This is a great film. IT SHOULD HAVE WON THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST PICTURE OF 1997 INSTEAD OF THAT NUDIE BOAT MOVIE. Although not my personal favorite film of 1997, that honor goes to "Air Force One". I am glad they FINALLY came out with this 2 disc special edition. SHOULD have come out in 2007 for the 10th anniversary. It was this film I learned about Russell Crowe. Became a fan at once. And, another SHOULD, he SHOULD have been nominated an Oscar as well. The cast are perfect in their roles. A flaw. Did NOT need the nudity in the film. There are good extras in this special edition. They did a good job with this. Now, the mistakes with the DVD packages. Although it comes with a CD this does NOT make up for these mistakes to me 1. NO chapter list 2. No printed material on the film 3. Badly designed how they input the discs inside the package

    A Great View!

This film really has the ability to “connect with its’ audience” thus my very positive review. It’s a “throw-back” Detective, Murder Mystery, and Romance with more action than 10 movies that’s set in the early 1950’s Los Angles, Calf. One thing is for sure: This film is certainty bot a bore. Kim Basinger won a well-deserved Academy Award – she was “hot” and she thoroughly understood the role she acted. This moving-picture very adequately captures the “dark-side” of Los Angles, Calf. during the early 1950’s – L.A. was not all “glitter and tinsel.” It is a film that that is a joy the re-visit more than just once and it won’t fail to entertain on subsequent views.

    Very good film

I heard the film was good. I read the reviews before I saw it. NEVER read the book. After reading the reviews & seeing clips that was the reason I watched it the 1st time. It was this film I first heard about Russell Crowe. Became a fan the moment I saw him. And, he is my age. Very good film. And, SHOULD have won the Best Picture Oscar that year. NOT that “boat movie”. Cast was very good although I disliked Guy Pearce’s character, the “goodie” cop. The DVD is the same version that came out on laser disc. Do we remember those? A new version with more extras is needed. Was NOT a fan of the brief nude scenes, those are NEVER necessary.

L.A. Confidential is very good movie that exposes the corrupt cops and the corrupt city of Los Angeles in the 1950s. I thought Russell Crowe did an excellent job as a charachter who delivers justice to those who deserved it. This is one the most powerful movies I've ever seen.

A really good movie that most people haven't seen because it doesn't have a marvel action hero in it.

Twists and turns. Good cast. Very well acted. Well directed. Gets you involved and keeps you there. Break-through movie for Russell Crowe. If you like cop movies, own this one.

This was a good, suspenseful movie. NOT A GOOD CHOICE for anyone who is sensitive about viewing violence against women; sesual assault is one of the crimes highlighted.

I heard such wonderful things about this movie from just about everyone I talked to. Unfortunately, everyone I talked to was just plain wrong. 'L.A. Confidential' is decent entertainment at best, a movie I wouldn't recommend at all. Dvd presentation is good, with some fair extras, but nothing that will knock your socks off. Skip this one.
