    Beautiful art, sound quality issues

I’m not a vinyl expert but after reading some reviews before purchasing this, others complained about these records having sound quality issues and they’re very real. I went ahead and purchased the album because I am a longtime tool fan and they are supposedly limited edition. The artwork is beautiful and it is very cool to have these spinning on my turn table. The tracks do “crackle and pop” but I’m ok with it. It gives it a vintage sound I guess lol. Vinyl peeps say it’s because of the clear layer presses over the artwork. Even though it has those issues, I have to rate it 5 stars because it really is a great album and a must have for your collection. If you come across one and are a tool fan, pick it up. You’ll love it either way

I have over 600 records from every genre you can think of and many you would never think of. I bought my first record in 1982. I love this album. The music is incredible. However this pressing is full of noise. From my experience, most picture discs have this issue. The packaging is awesome. The printing on the discs is cool Alex Grey artwork. Not the best for listening so 3.5 out of 5 stars IMHO.

Third studio album from Tool. The album content is great. This is a picture disc....images are amazing, however, I think that the quality of the sound suffers. I'm not sure if there is a current pressing that is not a picture disc, but that's what I would recommend. album = 5 stars, quality = 3 stars

Tool is my favorite band, and this album really presents their sound to the audience. The vinyl release is a double LP with picture discs. Really beautiful set.

I previously purchased this album twice and both copies had issues with skipping and noise. I believe that the pressing were either faulty and/or the albums were sleeved while hot and had contamination from the sleeves embedded in the vinyl. I bought the third copy in another state while traveling with the hopes that it came from a different batch. The copy that I have now seems to be perfect and the sound quality is great. This seems to be in line with other reviews, where is it very hit or miss whether you will get a good copy. As for the music and looks, just a top notch album. Buy it if you are willing to take the risk.

    Beautiful Artwork Vinyl-Poor sound

The vinyl artwork is just that, artwork. If I were reviewing just how unique, awesome and collectible the four (four!) different vinyl faces are, this would be a 10/5 review. However, some people might not know that specialty vinyl like this has a lot of 'noise' over the audio which translates roughly to constant hissing, pops and crackling. If you wanted an audio perfect translation of one of the best albums of all time on vinyl, this sadly will not fit the bill. If you want a serviceable experience and are willing to trade fidelity for 'awesome' looks, this is the best out there. If you buy this to frame the LP's for your den or game room, this is going to look absolutely incredible and unique. If you buy this to listen to, just know that you can expect a non-pure experience. Then again, to some degree, that is the beauty of vinyl.

The album looks great, and the cover art is top notch. However, the sound quality of the album is definitely not great, and on parts of tracks that are more quiet, the surface noise is very annoying.

I had read multiple online reviews on various sites stating that this pressing was full of surface noise and almost unlistenable. I decided to give it a shot anyways because the artwork and picture discs are so phenomenal... So when I placed this thing on the turntable and dropped the stylus, I was absolutely blown away with the sound quality. Super punchy bass... Clean and crisp sound. No surface noise whatsoever! Highly recommend!

The picture disc vinyl at stunning. The album is great and I love to listen to it. I don’t recommend playing a picture disc vinyl much at all due to the image being pressed the way it is. Playing it will result in it wearing extremely fast and to start skipping. I recommend keeping picture disc vinyl as a collector item and get a standard press for actual listening use.

I got this lp first from Amazon and I returned it because it sounds horrible then I bought it from best buy later on because that is a rumor that it's been remastered by two different engineer, so I give it a chance and it worked for me. Sounds awesome

Classic Tool - the album is a masterpiece. The vinyl picture disc sounds amazing (especially for a picture disc), but there are quite a few pops/clicks throughout both albums. A shame really

This album rocked and was very satisfying as a Tool fan when it came out over 15 years ago. The Lateralus LP is a little different as they rearranged the song order to fit on 4 sides. That's a little unfortunate, but understandable.

OK -- I'm sorry to say that this album fell a little short - both in quality of the music and production of the vinyl -- I ended up returning//exchanging it because the first album/side two skipped on my turntable and there was a noticeable 'tic' on a few places -- it was a 'picture album' so I guess I can't hold it to too high a standard for audio quality - and I must admit it was very interesting cover artwork and imagery - What is noteworthy is how well I was treated by the store when I went to exchange the album - the store personnel were very kind and helpful -

I purchased Lateralus for my boyfriend because it is his favorite album but Tool, his favorite band. He LOVED it! It was worth purchasing. The album artwork as well as the vinyl itself are incredible. Great buy!
