I LOVE TOOL LOVE Lateralus. This is an awesome product, great artwork, but had a few skips right out of the package. Will probably be returning. Had scratches on records

Noise throughout, I only recommend if you just like the art on the picture disc

This album alone is amazing, and by that i mean the music that these guys put together. I'm extremely bias, but this IS one of their best albums as a whole. I know that with the CD version, the booklet has some interesting pics, but the vinyl version has the images printed on the records. The circular 'lateralus eye' pattern all over the cover is great, too, and i actually like the fact that there is NOTHING printed on the cover (besides the circular eye pattern). It looks like a special-edition or something, but it's not!!! Although it's hard to tell which record/side each one is, there are letters "A, B, C, D" hand-etched into the middle of each record...so you just have to look really closely and in good light to tell!!!

It hurts to write this as I really love this album and wanted to look past the flaws this vinyl pressing presents, but I can't considering the price. I open the record for the first time, and straight away I see some scuffs on the outer edge of the 'A side', and scratches further in. On the second LP, the 'D side' had over 10 scratches running in the same direction, and the center hole was cracked. I put the record on, and before 'The Grudge' starts playing I can already hear a lot of surface noise. This is one of the major drawbacks of a picture disc, but unfortunately there is no regular version so I had no other choice. About 4 minutes into the track I started to hear a series of loud pops which took me out of the listening experience even more. At that point I lifted the tonearm, switched off my turntable, and packed the record away. I returned it that evening. Absolute garbage. Rumor has it Tool are planning on reissuing their discography in the future, so I would wait for that. As far as how the cover/records look, they are stunning. If only they sounded as good as they looked.

Album artwork is very cool at a cost to sound quality... There are numerous snaps and pops. I know this is normal based on it being an LP... But have purchased many new ones with no pops... Way, way, too many.
