Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the Legion 7i's fantastic performance and solid build quality as major strengths. The keyboard and display also receive positive feedback, with many praising their features. However, some users point to less-than-ideal battery life and occasional heat generation as drawbacks. While some find the fan noise noticeable, others report it as manageable or even quiet under certain conditions.

I had the computer for less than a year and the screen is already not functioning properly. I am going to take it to nearest best buy and get it fixed, hopefully no extra costs.

    Beware Lenovo Quality Control!

I purchased the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 directly from Lenovo's website. I'm leaving this review here because it seems there is no way to leave one directly on their site at the moment and I want people to be informed about this laptop. I managed to get a pretty good deal and was able to add an extended warranty on their site which I was happy about. The laptop at first seemed really great. I love the all metal construction! The keyboard on my first computer was great minus a small issue with the enter key on the numpad being misaligned, and it seemed to be more than powerful enough for everything I was going to throw at it. It didn't seem to heat up all that much under moderate loads, but definitely got hot when you pushed it. This was expected of course. Battery life was okay. The screen was acceptable for general use, seemed great for gaming, but probably wasn't going to cut it for creative work long term. It wasn't super poppy, but was good enough for me. Unfortunately the first one I received had a number of issues, outside of just the weird misaligned key I mentioned above. An issue I noticed almost immediately was that the trackpad was slightly loose on the bottom right corner. Any time I would tap or click that corner there was a very noticeable rattling sound. Not a huge problem, I dealt with it at first. But then after the first few days the finger print reader began to become unreliable. It would only work after logging out and back in, but wouldn't work after turning the computer on. If the computer had sat shutdown or with the lid closed for any length of time, three hours for example, the fingerprint reader wouldn't work. I tried everything I could think of, from registry edits to reinstalling Windows. Nothing addressed the issue. It's as if the fingerprint reader simply didn't work from a cold start. That was a deal breaker for me, since part of the reason I liked this Legion was the fingerprint reader. I initiated an exchange which took a few phone call and department transfers. Not surprise there, I understand Lenovo utilizes out of country contractors. 45 minutes after starting the process I had an exchange placed. No big deal, I was happy to have a new laptop on the way. Fast forward to today when I received the replacement. Holy moly! This one was bad right out of the box. As soon as I unwrapped and lifted the screen I could see that the keyboard was completely misaligned. The entire keyboard deck was shifted entirely to the right, and multiple keys in the center of the keyboard were misaligned. Some keys were tilted flush with the housing, and some keys were lifted higher than normal. Compared to the first laptop I had received this keyboard looked broken. The trackpad was also partially misaligned and sunken a millimeter in the bottom left corner. A click would cause the trackpad to recess even further. Something was clearly wrong with this replacement. I've attached photos of those issues here so you have a general idea of what to look out for. The keys shifted to the right and trackpad alignment issue are a little harder to see, but the lifted and tilted keys are incredibly obvious. I immediately called Lenovo and attempted to initiate another exchange. I figured three times the charm. Like I said I really liked this design and figured I'd be willing to go through the headache of another exchange if I got a good laptop out of it. Sadly Lenovo said they wouldn't be able to offer a second exchange, and instead would need to process a refund. I'm not sure why that was, perhaps they are having wider spread issues with this model and are opting to refund people who are having a number of issues, or they have some kind of policy against reported exchanges. They did say I could initiate another order after the refund was processed. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing that. This experienced has soured me on Lenovo. If two laptops back to back have these kinds of issues I can't rely on their quality control to ensure that I will have a reliable laptop for years to come. And that's a big problem for something that's $1,999. Sorry for the very long review. My one piece of advice to anyone purchasing this model: Look it over with a fine tooth comb, ensure that everything is working as intended, and be prepared to do exchanges and returns if you want to keep this specific model long term. Or look at other brands.

Bought and returned two of this model due to overheating. Bought the first model open box and it over heated and shut down within a minute of launching any game. Exchanged that one for a brand new one and same thing. CPU would spike to 100c instantly and shut down. Using a cooling pad made no difference. I returned this and bought the Legion Pro 51 instead.. Same internal specs but different cooling solution and it has no issues. It's Unfortunate that the screen and keyboard are not as good and it doesn't come in white. This would be an amazing laptop if it actually worked. The screen was amazing, the keyboard felt great to use and I love the white chassis. I am super disappointed that Lenovo would release such a high end product without properly testing thermals first.

I've never encountered a device that looks so aesthetically appealing but has caused so many technical issues. I purchased this item based on a recommendation from a Best Buy representative, and I regret not taking the time to research it myself beforehand. For the past year, I've had to take it to the Geek Squad every few months because every time it updates, I lose functionality with the speakers and the fingerprint sensor, along with other features that initially made this device attractive. Unfortunately, the tech team has been unable to provide any concrete solutions, other than suggesting that I invest in a Best Buy membership for unlimited visits without additional fees. To make matters worse, I've never had a laptop that had to be plugged in constantly. I've noticed that disconnecting it from the charger leads to even more issues. Overall, this has been a frustrating experience. I'm really disappointed that the sales representative didn't inform me about these significant drawbacks and that I didn't discover how problematic this product was until it was too late to return it.

Sold a Defective Laptop with 4 Prior Repairs

I deeply regret purchasing this computer. I bought it as an open-box item from Best Buy (1834 Joe Battle Blvd, El Paso, Texas) on April 29th. The salesperson convinced me it was in perfect condition and had been thoroughly inspected. Despite my reservations, I trusted him. Even as an open-box item, it was expensive—nearly $2,000 with the insurance they heavily pushed me to purchase, which I found suspicious at the time. The laptop worked fine initially, but by August, the touchpad stopped functioning. Since I live in Cancún, Mexico, I had to travel to El Paso to bring it in for repair. During the first repair (one week in-store, then two weeks at the factory), I couldn't work. When I finally got it back and tested it, the touchpad worked—but it failed again within 5 minutes of returning home to Cancún. Additionally, the laptop came back heavily damaged, which was devastating for someone like me who takes meticulous care of their belongings. I had to travel to the US again for a third repair. This time, Best Buy sent it to their service center to replace the touchpad. While it now works, the laptop was returned with a different charger, even more damage, and missing ventilation grills from the back panel where it charges. I am extremely frustrated because I repeatedly requested a refund. It's unacceptable to pay for a computer that doesn't work properly. To make matters worse, I discovered on Lenovo's website that this laptop had 4 previous repair cases opened before it was sold to me. They knowingly sold me a defective product under false pretenses. I understood it wasn't new, but that's completely different from selling me something that doesn't function. This has been a terrible experience, and I'm deeply disappointed given the significant investment I made.

Avoidance is Highly Recommended - Way Too Slow!!!

This laptop has been the worst laptop I have ever owned. It unfortunately came with Windows 11 and is super slow and actions are often delayed. I have fiber internet and my other laptops, some are 12 years old, and they work much faster. The internet is slow, clicks are delayed at times, and uploads and downloads take a long time. Also, it has randomly shut down out of nowhere twice. The ONLY Software I have ever downloaded was Bitdefender. It has been scanned for malware, viruses and such and nothing has been found. I was hoping to get another of the same laptop as I love the white color, but I am very hesitant to get another Lenovo at this point. They were my favorite brand of Laptop as I have never had issues in the past, but this slowness is completely unacceptable. The battery life is good for what the computer specs are or at least should be. Roughly I get about 4 hours even after a couple years on a full charge. The display is nice, not super vibrant by very nice compared to my other laptops. There are plenty of USB ports and the fan cools nicely. The lighted keyboard options are a nice feature and work well. The build seems stronger than a lot of other laptops and while slightly thicker and heavier, I actually appreciate that as I feel it is built better. There is a lot to love about this laptop, however, this is absolutely unacceptably slow. If that could be fixed, I would give this laptop 5 stars without a doubt. I think the issue with Windows 11, but it could be an internal component I suppose. I have no clue, but it has kept me from not only buying a second one of these, but looking at another brand of computers as well.

Five (5) days out of warranty. (Purchase date 12/19/24). Keys Light up, fans spin for a minute, powers down. RAM is seated. CMOS battery is fine. Power Supply is fine. Battery is fine. Looks like Motherboard. The fix will cost more than the product is now worth to me. I typically pay a premium for extended warranties on most of the more expensive products I buy, however this gaming laptop was below that price threshold (for me), however, I can't say it doesn't sting. Mostly because it was a Christmas gift for my son, last year. Lesson learned. Go look up the problems people are having with this product. They KNOW it, and should be embarrassed. No Lenovo EVER again. This product was used 1-2 weeks a month. His brother's laptop (another premium brand used 10x as much, and purchased at the same time) is running fine. This brand is garbage. Done.

Took me two weeks to diagnose that my brand new $2000 laptop was the issue, not my home internet after having the cable company replace wiring all the way to the pole, router, etc. Apparently, the Realtek Wifi Adapter is a known failure, just google it. I returned my first one and got a second with an upgraded video card hoping for an Intel WiFi Adapter. None of the specs offered beforehand tell you what brand it is. Second laptop had same adapter and dropped the internet just as badly. Unbelievable! I can't believe the time I wasted on this junk. Back it goes! I'll buy Dell with Intel, thank you.

Hello, ViPa, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing these issues with your Legion 7i. Regarding the heat produced, this Legion features an active cooling system, along with other components and software, designed to enable the user to power through work without throttling due to heat produced. We recommend that the bottom of the device, where the air intake vents are, is clear of obstructions to increase air flow. Additionally, this Legion features Smart Control, enabling the user to use the key command combination of Fn + Q to toggle between thermal/performance mode. For instances where you may use the device in your lap or a situation where the intake vents may be obstructed, we recommend switching to cool or quiet mode to help with the heat felt on the bottom of the machine and prevent temperatures from raising internally. Also, please check for and apply any available updates through Lenovo Vantage and Windows Update Settings to help ensure you are using the latest software and drivers to ensure your system is running as efficiently as possible. Should your issues persist after these fixes, we recommend reaching out to Lenovo Support here: 877-453-6686, and providing a representative with details of your issue, so that they may help by providing a solution for you. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. Lenovo

Really wanted to enjoy this product because I waited so long to upgrade my laptop. My first problem with this laptop was an odd software issue which would allow me to complete the setup but would refuse my pin and make me redo the entire setup process every time I restarted/turned on the laptop. The second problem, and a minor one at that, was that the time zone settings were always wrong. Finally around 3 weeks seldom infrequent gaming this laptop began operating at such high temperatures I couldn’t even rest my hands on it. Ultimately in the end it somehow erased its operating system and required the initial factory boot drive to be installed. Heartbroken
