This thing is a powerhouse for gaming in an affordable form factor with some bells and whistles to boot. I opted for the Lenovo because I also have the Legion Go and I decided to go for the 1TB memory and OLED screen over the small 14.5" display. I think I made the right choice because every game I've thrown at this thing it has excelled at running. Now I did have a crash once or twice but it was nothing major, this isn't a 3K laptop by the way. If you're looking for something to play all the AAA games and do your schoolwork this is the one! The speakers do suck, but you sacrifice one thing for the other. I hooked up some computer speakers and voila! Also the 16GB RAM cannot be upgraded but I think that's enough for a PC this size. All I can say is I love this thing and enjoy!

Started having a bit of update issues 2 1/2 months after buying it but it hasn’t effecting the performance rate. Overall it’s a great laptop, runs pretty smoothly when playing games or working on it. Lenovo is a great company and I’d definitely buy from this brand again.

I like the metal construction, Oled screen is beautiful. Getting good performance out of the 4060 with DLSS on. Screen dimming feature may gets distracting with OLED protection on.

This thing can do whatever you want it to do plus more, there is seriously no caviat to it, the temps are very good for its size, the performance is amazing, compared to other 4060 laptops this one is close to the top and is the best 14in 4060 laptop out rn, the battery life is very good when optimized, and the screen is just amazing, you cant beat a 2k 120Hz OLED panel, for 1200 there is nothing even close

Hi, CyanV. Thank you for choosing Lenovo! Regarding battery life – the system by default will prioritize performance when needed, leading to additional power draw from the battery. If you want to squeeze out more battery and are completing non-intensive graphics tasks, we recommend utilizing the MUX switch built into this model to turn off the GPU to greatly decrease power draw. Users can also take advantage of the keyboard shortcut, Fn + Q to toggle thermal modes and easily switch between prioritizing battery life or power, or even the best of both words. Other than that, are glad to hear that your Legion Slim is working out great for you, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. Lenovo

I wanted to keep this soo bad. I really liked this laptops display more then the asus oleds but without gsync or freesync you cant play fast paced games. They really missed a home run. Hopefully the next legion oled has one of those options.

I picked up the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14.5 for under $1000, and three weeks in, I'm thoroughly impressed. This laptop defies expectations at its price point, offering a level of performance and quality that's simply unmatched. It is a great improvement over my bulky, noisy Acer Predator Helios. The 14.5-inch OLED display is a standout. Crisp, smooth visuals and vibrant colors make everything from gaming to productivity a pleasure. The high resolution (2880x1800) and 120Hz refresh rate are a fantastic combo. While it's not the smallest 14-inch laptop, it's still impressively portable at under 4 pounds. Performance is great. The Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4060 handle demanding tasks and games with ease. Even under load, the laptop remains relatively cool and quiet. The speedy SSD ensures quick boot times and smooth app loading. While the 16 RAM is soldered, the 16GB DDR5 is plenty for most users. Build quality is solid. The design is sleek and feels a step up from laptops. The screen is sturdy with minimal wobble. The LED keyboard and touchpad are comfortable and don’t have a lot of give. Battery life is decent. I've managed around 6 hours of moderate use with battery saver mode enabled. While not exceptional, it's sufficient for most daily tasks. Using the Lenovo Vantage software will allow you to optimize battery longevity. Connectivity just works. Wi-Fi performance is solid, but the lack of an Ethernet port is a minor inconvenience. Bluetooth pairing with my Xbox controller and headphones was seamless. The webcam delivers clear video, but the laptop speakers could be better. Overall, the Legion Slim 5 14.5 is a fantastic choice for users seeking a balance of performance, portability, and affordability. It excels in productivity and gaming, making it a versatile machine for both work and play.

A New Competitor to 14" Gaming Laptops

Since this competes in the same space with the Asus Zephyrus G14 2023 (price and performance), I'm going to draw comparisons to that device when reviewing this Legion Slim 5. First things first, this is a gaming laptop and a 14.5" one at that; so expect temps in the low to high 90s and loud fans under heavy load or when gaming. Even though this laptop does not have liquid metal for cooling like the G14, it does use PTM7950. Despite what would seem to be difference in levels when it comes cooling superiority...this laptop runs cooler and have a less high pitched fan noise. In fact, this laptop performs better because of it. In smaller machines, how good your cooling is will either hurt or boost performance; and this Legion has got it handled well despite having a supposedly weaker CPU. The screen: It's OLED. There is nothing new I can say when it comes to this type of screen's color accuracy. It is a joy to game and consume content on it. It sadly, does not have g-sync; which may or may not be a deal breaker for some. Not to me though. The keyboard is the standard Legion laptop quality. They are slightly larger than the 2023 G14, but share the same feel and pressure needed to active them. Touchpad is smaller, but it does the job. Nothing to write home about, but it's good enough that you won't always wish to have a mouse with you. Speakers are decent. It lacks bass, but at least the mids and highs are well separated. Macbooks still reign supreme when it comes to laptop speakers. For the internals. It has room for 2 m.2 SSDs. Good for a main boot drive and a dedicated Steam library or if you want to have Linux on a sperate drive instead of partitioning 1 drive. This laptop has soldered RAM, which is already a deal breaker since some games are already wanting more than 16 GB of the stuff. But the trade off is that it consumes less power and is much faster. Exterior. Metal top lid and bottom plate. Plastic deck, but its the study good stuff like you see in the Lenovo P-series laptops. All in all, it is a great addition to the 14" gaming laptop options. Yes there are downsides to this device that it's competitors do well (G14 and Blade14), but this laptop also does well in areas the the competition does.

Unfortunately I'll have to return this device. There is a hardware defect thats causing random flashing white horizontal lines across the screen. I can confirm this is a hardware defect as I updated all software and drivers. These lines stay the same on different resolutions and even show in the BIOS. Pictures show horizontal lines in different places and is very noticeable.

Out of the box this little “powerhouse” is bottlenecking due to only 16gb of ram. I have to severely optimize ram usage to play ant AAA game at desired settings. Do not purchase.. cant handle Diablo.
