Customers are saying

Customers commend the Legion Slim 7i 16" Gaming Laptop for its excellent performance and high-quality build. Positive feedback also highlights the bright screen and relatively light weight for a gaming laptop of this power. However, some users note that the battery life could be improved, and the fans can be loud during intensive use, generating noticeable heat.

Reviewed (3) Lenovo Legion Gaming Laptops

I bought 3 Lenovo gaming laptops. This (Slim 7i/i9-13900H/RTX4070), A (Slim 7/AMD7840HS/RTX4060) and the (7i Pro/i9-13900HX/RTX4080). The AMD one (2 stars) w/RTX4060 and 165hz screen had the worst speakers. The screen at 300nits wasn't bright enough. Processor performance was good, uses low watts, but multi-core performance is average. The laptop stays cool. Gaming performance w/ RTX4060 was very average for this screen resolution (2560x1600). Laptop thicker than the Slim 7i. The Slim 7i (3.5 stars) w/ i9-13900H had excellent processor performance. Single core CBR23 of 2050. Super thin laptop. Thinner than the AMD one. Screen was 240hz and 500 nits. Much crisper and clearer and can game during the day without closing all the blinds. Speakers were much better but not amazing. Laptop fan noise in performance mode is pretty loud. Those things are spinning fast. Also HOTTEST laptop of them all. I would not use this on my lap at all. Gaming performance w/ the 4070 very similar to the RTX4060, just a touch better. Has to be elevated on your desktop for best airflow. (5stars)The PRO 7i w/ the 13900HX has the best multi-core processor performance. 30400 CB R23 multi-core. Single core R23 was 1900. I had to manually overclock with Intel XTU to have it match the i9-13900H single core results. The laptop isn't as thin as the Slim 7i but it's fine. Little heavier but not bulky by any means. Backpack friendly. Screen 240hz/500nits-excellent. The RTX4080 is what sets this thing apart. No camparison. It's a 50% gain in performance from the 4070. Settings in game can max out (smooth and beautiful gameplay). I really feel the rtx4060/4070 should only be in 1080p laptops. And the RTX4090 price/performance gain NOT worth it! Fan noise in performance mode is the lowest in all the laptops! Runs cool and quiet. Speakers best of the bunch. (Harmon Kardon Linear) They sound the fullest. Nahimic app works great. This one costs the most so don't try one if you can't afford it because once you play on a 4080 you'll think the others are just okay. Bought the 7i PRO and returned the others.

Cannot boost wattage to take full advantage of RTX 4070 GPU. Also Gaming Control Legion interface is the Worst. Also The Screen Calibrated for HDR Content Blasted Whites So High The Images were Just Too Darn Bright Killing Fine Details *Like On Snowy Ground or Snowy Mountains. This is a solid, beautifully built laptop. It is fast and powerful with a bright, clear screen. The keyboard is very nice, but it is different from my older Lenovo laptop. It is a bit stiffer. It has gamer-style lighting that you can customize as you wish, or turn it off altogether. I'm not going to post any benchmark scores here. I bought this laptop because I wanted a fast, reliable laptop for everyday use. I was always pleased with my older Lenovo Legion laptop. I just wanted an upgrade. BTW, the front of the laptop area to the right of the touch pad can get quite warm depending on what you are doing and the longer the laptop is on. The fan is fairly quiet when it needs to come on, so this is not too big a deal. That said, it has some glitches that I find very annoying. The first is definitely the fault of Lenovo. Their Lenovo Vantage app keeps popping up with annoying promo messages wanting me to try this or that. It is very distracting while I am trying to get some serious work done. I have tried with limited success to get them to stop. I would like to uninstall their support software completely, but I fear it might cause other problems. The other thing that I find so annoying is not Lenovo's fault. The Microsoft Store keeps popping up notices for one thing or another. I thought I managed to disable that short of uninstalling the Microsoft Store completely, but they keep popping up. Supposedly this is due to some bugs in Windows software--shocking, I know. Bugs in Windows OS? Really. I have gotten some improvements in this, but they still keep popping up randomly while I'm trying to get work done. These annoyances make me regret spending $2,000 on this laptop. Perhaps a 4-star rating was too high.

I dont typically write reviews but this one felt necessary cuz i put alot of research into buying this laptop. I am a travelling insurance adjuster, and i need a decently powerful machine for my workflow. I do not mind the size as much cuz it givesme extra realestate for writing long estimates. That being saod, it is large, and i do have trouble fetting it in my backpack. Id say noticably heavier than laptops ive used in the past too. But not deal breaker. I use the laptop 75/25 work vs gaming. I enjoy gaming in my downtime after finishing my work on the road. Gaming is great! Exactly what i expected. Gets pretty warm, but as long as i prop it up so it can suck in air, no problem. But, as a work computer i have to say it falls short. Shockingly computer seems to lag when multitasking documents, software, and web. Battery life is also pretty rough. In the field ill run the laptop dry in 2-3 hours of work. Im sure i can adjust some settings, but i was able to do this work on a lesser computer in the past so it baffles me a bit. I need brightness up and computer to perform when im working out of my vehicle and hotel rooms. Not super computer savvy myself, i just wanted something that works. May have to return as it doesnt quite fit the bill for myself in my niche situation. Im coming to the sad reality that i may really need two devices for what im trying to acheive. Also hope this is legible. Reviewing on my phone is slightly difficult. But wanted to put my 2c put there for someone else that may be on the fence in a similar scenerio to myself. It just falls short due to a few small things that effect my day to day using this machine as a means of making money. Sad, cuz i still really like it!

For the past few years I've been using a desktop that I built, but suddenly found myself in a situation where I have to travel a few days a week. I still needed a powerful enough computer to do some light video editing and 3D modeling and some gaming on the side, but also one that wouldn't break the bank or my back. This laptop is amazing in all those categories! It's slim enough that it doesn't feel too brick-ish and the screen is a great size (something I was worried about after using a desktop for so long). The only problem I've encountered with the screen is that when using the NVIDIA Graphics, the brightness of the screen is SO bright that the lowest setting still feels like I'm being blasted in the face with a flashlight during light scenes. This is only a problem I've encountered in night/dark settings, and not a problem in regular daylight. It's been able to handle anything I've thrown at it with no stutters or too long rendering times, and although I haven't played any games on it yet that would test the limits of the card, FPS rates have been more than playable. Fan noise hasn't been too bad, definitely noticeable on intensive tasks, but surprisingly more quiet than I expected for a laptop. I may try to upgrade the RAM sometime in the future, but 16GB has been fine for now. I do miss my custom keeb when travelling, but this keyboard is excellent for a laptop; travel distance and response are good, and the full size arrow keys are a plus. The numpad does take a little getting used to, as the keys are a bit narrow. Like another reviewer mentioned, if you're laying down and using this laptop on your lap, the lighting beneath the keys is very bright at that angle due to the distance between the keycaps and the body of the laptop. It is a little bit annoying, but it just helps me to remember to fix my posture. Overall, this is an amazing little laptop and I'm glad I gave this Lenovo a chance instead of trying to wait for a different laptop to be released, as it's performance on every level has knocked it out of the ballpark! I sometimes even find myself using it at home instead of my desktop!

I got this laptop for college as I'm using lots of CAD/heavy duty software and needed something portable that could handle everything on the go. I've been able to run everything so far, no problems on blender or fusion360 so far (besides the occasional lag). The battery life is what you'd expect from something with these specs. This replaced my old 2019 macbook air, but I haven't noticed a huge (if at all) difference in weight; most laptops with this power are super heavy and annoying to carry around all day. The brightness is fine on all points, and the keyboard customization is super fun. it feels great to type and I havent had any double click errors. the port selection fits all my needs and I love how they light up on the back. also, when you press Fn, all the Fn accessible keys light up which was also awesome. Numpad is great for 3D modeling and my math classes. speakers aren't the best but they work fine, get loud/quiet enough. I usually use a portable speaker or headphones anyways so it dosent really bother me. the fans don't get very loud, I heard them at max once when I had a ton of programs running at once but I usually never hear them. I believe you can use USB-C charging as well with a 100W block, which is nice so you don't have to carry around the charging brick. Personally, I dont really care since it's not too huge but the option is nice. I wish the keyboard brightness had more than 3 levels of brightness, but it's not really a huge deal when you look at everything else. Overall, perfect laptop for the price (i bought this refurbished for $1560 w/o tax), would highly recommend if you need something portable and powerful.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 7i is a commendable gaming laptop that excels in both power and design. The slim and lightweight chassis defies its gaming capabilities, making it a versatile choice for on-the-go gamers. The Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA GPU deliver outstanding gaming performance, complemented by a high-refresh-rate display for smooth visuals. The RGB backlit keyboard adds a touch of flair, and the ample selection of ports enhances connectivity options. The laptop's build quality is solid, and the cooling system effectively manages heat during demanding tasks. On the downside, the battery life may be a bit limited during intense gaming sessions. Despite this, the Legion Slim 7i stands out as an excellent choice for gamers who prioritize both performance and portability.

The build quality is nice... the chassis however gets scuffed really fast. The fans are a bit loud, and it does tend to run on the hotter side. I've also had issues with the screen, a few months after purchase the screen started to flicker, whenver i try to close the laptop it freezes, and no longer responds to commands.

My experience with the Legion Slim 7i was overall good. The display was adequate in sharpness and brightness. Battery life was about 3 hours on average. This laptop is powerful enough for most games. On the downside when the fan starts ramping up it can get quite loud. Also as I said before the battery life is only about 3 hours depending on what you’re doing. If you can get it on sale for around $1200 it’s a sold choice.

I got a good deal on an open box. This laptop is amazing! It handles all games very well, easy to pack around for school and feels high quality. My only complaint is that the headphone port has a constant buzzing noise making audio impossible to listen to. Apparently this is very common in lenovos, but everything else is perfect; Battery life, gaming, speed, temp, screen, keyboard, speakers. Its got it all!

I got this to use at work and at home. Spreadsheets, typing letters, video editing, photo retouching, web surfing, and some gaming. I love everything about it. I've tried the Asus Zephyrus, and the HP Omen. This is the best. Lenovo keyboards are the best. I can type the longest and fastest without errors. The number keypad is very useful when entering numbers, although I wish it was full size. But better than not having one. The keyboard RGB light is easy to program and customize and it is very bright. The thermal mode button is the power button and is easily accessible and distinguished by the light color. The quiet mode is very quiet. The balanced mode will occasionally blow loud. The lighted ports on the back are easy to see and very useful. The screen is beautiful, sharp, and bright! Folded close, the laptop is not heavy and feels well constructed. Photo retouching works fast. Copying files is fast. I played Kingdom Come Deliverance with almost all ultra settings at native resolution 2560x1600 and it was smooth as butter. I have since added 16gb RAM and a second NVME 2 tb drive to store 10 more games because I grew up envying my Nintendo friends because I didn't have a game system and I had to go over to their houses to watch them play. Now, I am set. Hope it lasts for the next 10 years.

Solid Built. Nice screen. The only problem are the speakers. They sound as if they've been blowned. If you lower the bass its not so bad. But I don't know it might be a defective unit or software/drivers but so far lenova hasn't answer my complaint. It's no big deal since i hook my speaker but it's annoying knowing that defect. i wish the keyboard had a little more click/travel but that's just me. Oh and the trackpad... why in the world did lenovo put it to the left side. It should be center. I never thought about it but if you use it when in bed, like surfing or checking email, it feels weird because you have to reach almost to the left side of the laptop. I'm right handed. But overall good laptop. Game wise, i can't say... i bought for video and picture editing. So can't say. It is noise[fan] when using intense power.

I've had this since Dec 11, 2023, I love it. I bought this because I wanted something to do while visiting my parents for my winter break, and instead of buying a PS5, I'd rather buy myself a gaming laptop, since all I do is PC game now. I love it so much. The screen is beautiful, the rgb is rad. the only thing that is a negative for me is the heat. it throws so much heat. I suggest you buy yourself a cooling pad which i did. I did end up seeing temps go down. I ended up buying 'llano Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad with Powerful Turbofan' It does come with rgb for those who are down with rgb.

When i first received it, it had an issue saying “bad image error” after contacting support and doing a full factory reset the problem was solved! Has been working amazing since then and i mainly use it for gaming. Does get a tad bit hot but nothing a cooling bad or elevated laptop stand can’t fix. Some say the fans are loud but it’s expected with gaming laptops. The battery isn’t the best only lasting about 1 and a half to 2 hours but also is expected. So far i love it and am very happy with my purchase!

As a college student, I am very happy with this purchase. Below are some observations. Performance: TimeSpy Score with Nvidia Optimus enabled is 12,287 (12,098 GPU and 13,488 CPU). The RTX 4070 outperforms my previous 100W 3080 laptop GPU by a considerable margin. In BeamNG Drive on Ultra settings at 2560x1600p AND with full AI traffic, I am very rarely dipping below 45 frames per second. The i9 is also incredibly speedy for intense tasks like econometrics and data science / ML. I will probably add another 16GB stick of ram to the laptop since it does not void the warranty (woohoo). Battery Life: Phenomenal. I can't even believe it. The following figures were found using 40% brightness, 60hz refresh rate, low backlight, iGPU only, Quiet Mode, and on power efficiency settings (NOT battery saver): Light web browsing -- 11 hours. Writing Word documents + web browsing -- 9-10 hours. Four Excel spreadsheets open + two Stata 17 projects + several web pages -- 8-9 hours. Writing this review -- 9.5 hours. I also tested battery life while watching YouTube with HDR 400 on at maximum brightness. In this test, I got a predicted 5.5 hours of battery life. Display: My old laptop had a pretty awful screen, so this 500-nit IPS "HDR 400" display is a huge step up for me. There is no noticeable backlight bleed on my unit. The G-Sync panel has a high refresh rate and feels very responsive, and I appreciate that it automatically switches to 60hz when on battery power. Comfort and Ergonomics, etc.: The keyboard is very comfortable to type on and the glass trackpad feels quite nice. The backlight on the keyboard can get extremely bright -- honestly, the "low" setting is a little too bright for me as well. I have not heard the fans kick in a single time while on Quiet Mode which is great. Temperatures are very nice even when under heavy load -- GPU did not crack 65C in my testing and the CPU remained under 75C. Unfortunately, when the fans are off, I can hear an occasional coil whine when I put my ear to the keyboard. The laptop has a very premium feel with its all-aluminum build and is relatively lighter for "gaming" laptops. The port selection on this laptop is excellent, although it should be noted that I have only gotten the USC-C charging to work using Lenovo USB-C power bricks. 67W Macbook USB-C power bricks do not work, for example. Overall, I am very happy with this laptop and its engineering has impressed me.

Man, I can't fully describe how happy I am with this gaming laptop. I had to return a previous laptop purchase (Alienware m16) just because of this and I am glad with my decision. Build quality is top notch, I love the numpad as I use this a lot, can't beat the screen quality, speedy i9, excellent 4070 performance, and super happy with the portability as it is relatively thin and lightweight, plus excellent port placements. You'll never go wrong with this and if you get a chance to see this on sale or having a great discount even on open box, don't hesitate to grab this beast!
