This configuration of the Lenovo Legion Y530 laptop ships with 16GB of Intel Optane Memory that works in conjunction with the 1TB 7200RPM standard hard drive, such that the combination of Optane Memory and the standard hard drive work like a Hybrid hard drive. This provides quick boot up and quick recall of the most used programs on the device, like a solid state hard drive. lenovo

It's really hard to find a laptop that doesn't have a BS CPU in it. Shopping for laptops is kind of painstaking. This laptop has a legit i7 and was cheaper than anything else I could find that had one. The GPU was just a bonus for me.

this review is for Lenovo Legion Y530 (81FV0002US) this laptop has it all for me: It has a surprisingly sleek design with what i believe is the thinnest bezel for a gaming laptop ever. to put his in perspective, I own a Lenovo Y40 gaming laptop with 14 inch screen. both laptops have almost the same width due to the reduction of bezel width. This laptop also is one of the thinnest gaming laptops as well with about an inch of thickness. performance: the combination of the latest core I7 processor with the 16 GB of Ram and the dedicated Nvidia 1050TI graphics card makes this laptop performs greatly. make no mistake, its not the strongest available in the market but if you want a laptop for gaming only, get a console. I played Forza motorsport 6 Apex for 3.5 hours non stop using high presets, with ZERO lag. I also played Fortnite on above medium presets and i experienced no issues at all. one thing worth mentioning here is the wifi card. I work mostly using wifi between home and office and I have experienced new laptops with very bad wifi connection so I did a little test. I downloaded a file with the size of 22GB on this laptop, and another laptop with core I7 (6th Gen) with also 16GB of ram. both on the same wifi netweork and the downloads were initiated on the same network with the Y530 first, it downloaded the file in 7 minutes, while the other laptop with similar specs downloaded the file in 14 minutes. Battery: with balanced power settings I was able to get a solid 3 hours from the laptop doing just work (Chrome browser with 10+ tabs open, microsoft office). Keyboard & touchpad: I like how the keys feel and I loved that the touch pad has right and left clicks. the only thing i don't like is the absence of a dedicated Home & End buttons. the backlighting is very nice and can be dimmed or turned off altogether by hitting Fn & space at the same time. the color is Ice white which I find very attractive, yet professional. Display: the screen has a very good resolution of 1920 * 1080. granted its not 4K and some people have stated that its a bit dark but I found it to be perfect for my use. camera: the camera position is odd as its below the screen but I rarely use the camera so this is not a deal breaker for me. Loudness/ heat signature: as stated above, I have used the laptop to play a demanding game for 3.5 hours non stop. the fans couldn't be heard over the sounds of the game at all, and the laptop was warm and actually a lot cooler than i originally expected due to the huge fans this laptop has. Hardware upgrade: although I did not experience any issues with speed with the HDD on this laptop, but I will be replacing the HDD with a SSD soon. I have replaced the one of the 8GB model of the Y530, and it was fairly easy to do so. although it might void the warranty. but you will be fine if you have an idea of what you are doing. if you fo to the product page on Lenovo website you will find the maintenance guide that has a step by step to replacing the HDD, and other components as well. ports: i love the positioning of the ports on the back of the laptop, I also love that they added a USB type C to the input and they were also generous to add 3 USB 3 ports. it also has an HDMI port if you want to hook the laptop to a bigger screen or a projector, and a headphone jack. mobility: the laptop is very sleek but the power adapter is huge. if you are going to buy the laptop wait until you actually get it before buying a laptop bag if you like to get a slim bag instead of a back pack. Price: the price is reasonable and with a couple hundred dollars more, you can get a 1 TB SSD drive and the laptop should easily last 5 years. the return on investment makes total sense if you do not only use the laptop for gaming. final thoughts: the touch and feel of the laptop is very nice. although its made out of plastic when resting your hands and typing the surface has a semi velvety feeling to it. and the lit Legion logo on the back cover got so many compliments as it should! I am in love with my new Lenovo Legion Y530, and this is my 5th laptop from Lenovo in the past 7 years.

I purchased this as a gift about 12/15/2018. First booted 12/25/2018. Unfortunately, the gift receiver did not keep the original box. Within a week the hard drive failed. It booted but nothing worked. Ran a chkdsk /R and some other features in the cmd as that was the only thing we could open. Results were that the hard drive was damaged. Now I do have the original box, this cost about $1000. Going to BB this weekend.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo Legion Y530 laptop. o BIOS setup > Configuration > Storage > Intel® Rapid Storage technology > Intel Optane, 931.5GB > Disable > Are you sure you want to disable > Yes > Disable

o The Disable process should be finished and there will be (2) non-RAID physical disks
o Press F10 to Save and Exit
      - The system should now be able to be Restored
      - After restoring, you will need to open the Optane UI from the task bar and choose Setup > Enable > Select “Erase all data on Intel “Optane” memory module > Continue > Restart. Now you can restore the Windows 10 operating system to factory original settings by following the instructions at this link:  https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/reset-windows-10-pc. I have now had two of this model. I had to exchange the first one because it failed to do anything beyond post within a week of owning it. I have had the replacement now for 3 months and it constantly freezes and crashes. In checking out the resource monitor the problem appears to be with the hard drive that is not user replaceable. I fell for the styling and a sale price, do not make my mistake.

I really want to rate this higher but I had the laptop for only a few months before the motherboard fried and I had to sent it in. After getting it repaired the new motherboard Best Buy installed didn't work with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 Ti. Follow that prior issue with it just uninstalling windows 3 days ago and One Drive being cleared as well costing me everything I had on it with the One Drive being cleared when windows uninstalled.
