That end cap has a carbon sponge that reapplies whenever it's screwed back on. This lets it get more moisture and fingerprints and such. You'll still need a good hand blower to get particles out of the way, or this pen will just move them around on your lens

Useful camera bag tool

This definitely did the job. Has a nice design overall with a slide up brush and a screw cap to protect the cleaner side. Definitely a must have for a camera bag.
