$300 in repairs after a year and a half

We purchased this LG washer about a year and a half ago to replace a cheap-o washer and dryer that lasted us nearly 10 years. We figured with the new technology (direct drive, no belts, etc) it would be the last washer and dryer we would have to buy.....not so much. We did all of the research and this model was highly rated...so we saved up and paid the extra cash for what we hoped would be a great machine. After a year and a half of light use, the clutch assembly broke, and it is not covered under the "10 year motor warrantee". This was our first (and last) purchase of an LG appliance. When I contacted customer support, they were unwilling to help. Not only that, there is only ONE repair company that would touch it due to LG screwing a bunch of repair companies out of cash....so it took over a week to get someone out to look at it. That should have been a sign... I also wrote a review on their website detailing the problem we had with the machine, and they REFUSED to post it...saying it did not meet their criteria for posting. Apparently the first criteria is that it needs to be a positive review! If you do get suckered into purchasing one of these machines....do yourself a favor and pay a few hundred dollars for the extended warrantee....chances are you will need it at some point.

    Uneven Load Constantly

We bought the W/D set about 8 months ago. The Dryer is fantastic-- no complaints-- 5 stars. The Washer however gave us an UE Error (Uneven Load) on day one and comes on about 50% of the time since then. It's supposed to be an energy saver, but when the error comes on it refills with water trying to rebalance the load up to 3 times so there is no savings. We have had LG out a couple times to look at it and they admitted that this is an issue with this washer. When we first contacted them they went through the spiel about heavy on the bottom, wrap blankets and towels around as if there was a center agitator, don't put too many items in, don't put too few items in, etc. Nothing worked. They came out about a 3 weeks ago and replaced a part, but we still get the UE Error. Trying to figure out how to get this replaced-- luckily we bought the extended warranty.

I was so excited to get a new washer with large capacity. Now I dread ever time I have to was clothes. It will not spin. On most of my loads I have to take the clothes out and redistribute to get the machine to spin them. I had it serviced by the Best Buy service rep (not by Best Buy themselves) and he said I needed to make sure I fill it to the top (I don't want to do this all of the time). It still will not spin. I will load it full of sheets and I will have to take them out to get them to spin. I have spent over 2 hours on 1 load of clothes. Don't waste your money!!!

    uE/UE code...get used to it...

This washing machine worked great...for the 1st 2 years. After that it started throwing uE (unbalanced load) codes which causes the machine to fill back up with water to redistribute the load. After 3 times it throws the UE code and you have to take over manually. Loads can litterally take hours. Now at first we thought it was our fault and not putting the clothes in right or not enough clothes. But now you can't even run it on spin only cycle...even with the tub empty...and it still throws a uE error. Turns out that this is a regular problem on the LG top loaders. The problem is in the circuit board - $500 - they last about 2 years. So if you get this machine be sure and get the extended warranty but personally I'd stay away. I've now got a $2k newer mismatched set....ugh...

    DO NOT BUY

I have had an LG washer for 3 years and it was perfect. They had a recall and said they needed to upgrade the system. Now with the upgrade you cannot wash comforters. I spoke with the repair tech (which is where the sent me) and they listed the "Expected differences" after the upgrade which are; it will take 20-30 minutes longer, use more water, have frequent unbalanced error code which will cause the system to drain and refill repeatedly. They knew all of the issues were present and now will do nothing to fix it. The also did not tell the consumer that these issue would be present post repair. I thought I had a great product but now that I know how poor the customer service is I will never buy and LG product again. The washer is useless! And since they had to make the sensor more sensitive I can only imagine the issues you will have with newer models. Just be careful!

This machine quit working after 18 months. We have had it repaired 3 times by an LG certified repairman, because the same problem keeps occurring. The electronic panel loses power and shuts down with the clothes locked in the machine. It has just quit for the 4th time and LG customer service will not stand behind the product. We are out the money for repairs and have to purchase another machine. It will not be LG.

    Good idea, Bad machine

Bought this machine to handle large items and wash lots of clothes. Even with increased water setting, some items can come out DRY! Never does spin agitation, acts like motor weak or broken. I have to wash everything with "Bedding /Bulky Item" settings in order to get clothes wet and clean. Supposedly nothing wrong with machine. Put two wet blankets in, and machine only filled with a few inches of water, dragging blankets around, never cleaning them. Reminder, this is a top loader, not a front, so it needs more water to wash. Also, when doing a small load on "hot," it fills with cold water first, then hot, so you're washing with lukewarm water. Supposedly heats water, water never more than 115 degrees F. I've had enough, I'm buying a front loader again. Really, really disappointed.

Ok until recalled - firmware update made it worse!

Be forewarned!! This unit is recalled and the updated firmware makes the washer worse than before. It constantly gives the UE warning (Uneven Load) and then fills and empties the tub with water over and over trying to get it to balance itself. Energy Efficient...ummm, not so much.

I purchased a LG washer from Bestbuy for 1099.99 and Blacktie Warranty for 179.99. The machine surface started to wear and rust. The spin cycle does not always work to full capacity. Best buy or the manufacturer will not cover the exposed metal. Will never purchase LG or from Bestbuy.

Horrible washer and dryer for the cost

Paid $2,000.00 for both washer and dryer. Clothes do not get clean at all and constantly get out of balance. Cycle times take forever and dryer does not get towels or bedding dry at all.
