I bought this yesterday and the picture was very dark...until I realized the "Energy Savor" option was selected. Turn "Energy Savor" off and the picture is bright and fine.

Best Buy's spec list shows that this TV does not have HDR (high dynamic range). That is an error. This TV is has HDR. Technically LG calls it "Active HDR with scene by scene optimization'

TV was purchased on Black Friday and my family was blown away by not only the picture quality, but also the sound. We purchased two of these and both are phenomenal TV’s and the built in WiFi is great!

Normally I don't have a problem with LG tv's / devices, yet with this device, I don't know if it was the tv itself or I just got a defective unit. I went into my local bestbuy to upgrade my tv seeing as how the PS4 Pro is out and the Xbox One X is currently on it's way. So, I decided to buy a 4K tv. Like I stated before, I don't have a problem with LG devices. Yet when taking this unit home and setting it up, I noticed the quality and color was very dark. I messed with the setting to try and fix it, yet it still didn't make that much of a difference. When playing games, the saturation and lighting in certain settings with certain games, were either very dark, or over saturated and bright. I also noticed a dark frame like shadow around the tv from corner to corner. Which made it hard to read and see things on the bottom of my screen. Yet, As I stated before, I don't know if it was just that particular tv that was messed up, yet I will watch out for next time.

We bought this TV to replace one that went bad. We purchased the Best Buy 5 year plan and it proved a wise buy because the bad TV was covered. This TV is excellent so far.

Fine with cable, wireless does not work

We have enjoyed years of fairly good tv. Once we decided to get rid of cable and stream, we realized the wireless does not work. The internet offers solutions, the only one likely to fix the issue requires the cover be removed. Apparently, this is a common issue. It is now an overpriced paperweight.

So years ago I owned an LG 1080p 60 hz tv. To this day it still works. From day one it had DSE or dirty screen affect. I bought this tv 10 years ago. LG serviced it when I complained about the DSE but essentially they told me there were no improvements. Fast forward to two months ago. I bought this TV after alot of people said it was a good buy for the price. I get home and set this one up. easy to use but its very dark and you have to turn everything up to almost 100 for it not to be that way. Also. Something they still have yet to fix in a DECADE. Dirty Screen Affect. Still there on a much newer tv. I complained about this to them and they said this is common with low end models such as the one I purchased. They said it was the back lighting. There are comparable models that do not have issues with DSE and grey uniformity. So what LG is saying is that they make low end stuff they won't stand behind. I am selling it to a friend who isn't bothered by DSE and losing 150 dollars on it. I'm going with Samsung and spending about 300 more dollars on something I should have spend money on in the first place. My recommendation is that if you don't mind DSE then this tv is OK. The colors are decent. The depth from the contrast stinks. The OS is easy to use. build quality is....meh. It feels to me like they put a small package in a large case. Anyway. If you want to buy something that a manufacturer wont stand behind then this is the TV for you.

    Bad brightness

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this TV and had to quickly return. Was not able to get right screen brightness for the bedroom environment: all automatic options were either too bright or went too dark due to being "light sensitive" (obviously not working well) while custom ("expert settings") adjustments produced brightness of truly horrible quality that would bleach the screen entirely even though the max contract was chosen. This is a serious flaw of this TV for darker rooms. Got a Samsung instead: that brand also has a similar automatic light sensitivity feature flaw for the "standard" picture option but at least I was able to adjust brightness manually in settings to the level I need. Did not expect this from LG.

Not what others claim in my experience

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this tv primarily to watch tv, not to play games or watch dvds. I realize some of my issues are due to cablevision limitations. The picture is mediocre in resolution, motion blur, dynamic range of color, brightness, and contrast. I have tried 3 different HDMI cables with no improvement; I have spent hours tweaking settings all to no avail. There is often poor sound/lip synchronization during spoken passages. Using closed-captions affects overall picture brightness which dims, also when viewing program info. The brightness also fluctuates during scene changes, takes a few seconds to come up to full brightness. Maybe a faulty power transformer. The best I can do is a poorly contrasted, poorly resolved, somewhat dim picture. We watch most programs in "Sports" mode, all the others modes are virtually useless with any settings, and I don;t know why they are available. Older classic B/W movies are especially horrible. The user manuals are a joke. What is HDR?? I see no change in picture quality, even on live programs such as sports. I'd really be ticked off if I paid more than $300 for this unit, and am still considering returning it. Overall, a total dsappointment. If anyone has some ideas on what we could try I'd appreciate it, otherwise back it goes. Maybe this unit is just a lemon. So far I have found no redeeming values with this lg tv set.

    Unusual Defect

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We had to return this LG television due to a screen defect which would only appear when watching live sports: tennis, golf, baseball, etc. The screen would exhibit some horizontal lines in the lower 3rd of the screen and the image below the line would 'split' from the main picture so you appeared to be watching two similar but different or unsynced pictures. Never happened otherwise and the picture itself was really pretty good but obviously couldn't live with this. Replaced it with same size Samsung which works fine.

    Mislead about Apple compatibility

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was assured by the sales associate when I purchased this TV last week that our Apple products would be compatible with mirroring. That is incorrect. Although we subscribe to Showtime with Verizon, there is no Showtime Anytime app available and a HULU account is required to access Showtime Anytime. I purchased an Apple TV for a different TV in our house and it provides us with everything. Looks like I'll be returning this LG SmartTV for a regular TV and buying another AppleTV. Very disappointed that I was mislead. Should have done my homework before purchasing.

    Horrible Brigntness and Audio

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this TV after reading great reviews about it however the brightness is horrible, everything is really dark. I played with many settings and it doesn't change much, when you bump the brightness up, it doesn't do much just washes out all the colors. And the audio sounds like the TV is in a bag, and the audio is coming from it. I could get used to the audio after a while, but the brightness and the color was a deal breaker so I returned it and got a Sony X700D. It's a little bit more expensive but the difference is day and night.

    Disappointing picture quality

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Had this TV a week and just couldn't get happy with the picture quality for a 4K TV. Tried various settings and even some custom ones of my own but no go. Biggest problem was the lack of brightness and corresponding control of contrast. Picture was just too dark no matter what. When bringing up the brightness to a barely acceptable level, it looked washed out and contrast adjustments couldn't overcome this. I returned it in exchange for a Samsung of same size and price within $25. Love the Samsung! Sorry LG, this product needs work!!!!
