The fragility was on full display with this TV ... it took only a few months for the super thin TV to malfunction. I was able to return it to Best Buy after several attempts to repair it by local LG contractors kept falling through for over 4 months! I now have a Sony OLED

Dead pixel in the middle of the tv after light use

Bought this on 4/27/2019. Very light use, as I don’t watch a lot of television, but now has a blue spot (dead pixel?) in the middle of it. Best Buy app says that it’s no longer under warranty. Less than 4 months of very light use and no warranty or support. I should not have listened to the kid working the floor in the store.

Very Happy with the LG OLED

I'd been thinking about upgrading my 10 yr old Panasonic Plasma which still work well, but the screen size was abit too small for my new place. I'd been reading about the LG OLEDs and this model caught my eye due to lower price than the newer models. I realize it has last yrs processor as compared to the 2019 OLEDs upgraded processor. However, after watching the review on Rtings.com, I felt the minimal performance difference wasn't worth the extra expense of newer models. So I got the 55" B8 model. Setup was fairly easy. I did re-adjust the settings following the guidelines on Rtings but ended up with my own adjustments. Of course, in full 4K, the picture is outstanding. The color is vibrant and the definition very clear. On rare occasions, there is distortion in very dark areas, but that maybe signal degradation from streaming. I say that because it's not consistently poor. I rarely use the TV's speakers since I have a nice 5.1 setup with a Yamaha receiver and Polk speakers ( which are awesome for their price ), but when I have used the built in speakers, the sound is much better than many other tv's I've heard. I'm not using the WebOS streaming service that's built into the TV. I'm sure it works good, but I already had an excellent Roku box. So I run an ethernet cable to my Roku, and HDMI cable to my receiver to ensure I get maximum audio. And from there, I run an HDMI cable to the HDMI ARC input on the tv. The sound hooked up this way is phenomenal and I'm able to maximize the audio soundscapes within the Yamaha receiver. And with the Roku, I can access thousands of streaming channels. So far, so good. Of course, now I get to fiddle with two remotes instead of one but not a big deal for me. The remote included with the LG OLED B8 is linked to my receiver, so when I switch from streaming to broadcast, the receiver follows it. One can also adjust the receivers volume with the LG remote once they're linked. There's smart phone apps for those that wish to use their phones to control the TV, but I'm fine with the included remote which uses a pointer, and/or voice activation. I think the upscaling generally works well. 1080 looks sharper then it did on my Panasonic. And I'll tell you, there are many diehard Plasma fans still today. Plasma sets do look very, very good, and a pretty reliable. Mine's got 10 yrs on it and still running strong. Like I said, I wanted a larger set, which was why I bought the LG. Broadcast networks look great, and since the feds mandated all broadcast TV to be in 1080, the upscaling from the LG looks very, very good on the strong signals my OTA antenna picks up. I get all the major stations coming in strong with excellent picture and sound. And yeah, Blu-ray looks very good as well. And it's hard to see much difference from 1080 to 4K. That's how good the upscaling is. Yeah, I WAS thinking about the highly rated Sony 930 LED, but when I was able to get the LG for close to the same price, the decision was made. Finally, yes, burn in can be a real thing. One must use caution not to allow the set to remain on a static image for long periods of time. Rtings.com did a very thorough test on burn in on OLEDS. If that is a concern, I advice you watch the video report. PS. I also bought an extended warranty since I got the set at a substantial discount AND I thought a 1 yr warranty on such a large purchase wasn't adequate. If you are looking for the best picture available without breaking the bank, the LG B8 is for you. Plus, since it's last yrs. model, the prices are dropping all the time.

For the past 8 months I investigated, reviewed, researched, listened, actually looked at, pondered and watched prices for a 55" smart TV purchase to replace a 9 year old 46" Panasonic plasma. I utilized BestBuy and Amazon ratings, CNET.com and www.rtings.com to get a sense of customer and technical experiences. I settled on an OLED55B8PUA from LG from BestBuy, have had it for 2 weeks now and the wife & I are EXTREMELY pleased with it. I am fair-to-moderately 'tech savy' and even I found the "set-up" pretty uncomplicated, but I found a GREAT guide source (and product testing source) at www.rtings.com. My wife (we're 62 and 66 YOA) even remarked, "THAT is an incredible picture, and I LOVE the sound, I can actually hear everything!" The colors, brightness, unbelieveable clarity and detail are just remarkable...and all that from 'upscaling' from a crummy broadcast antenna (no cable or satellite). The Blu-ray movies are even better! And I discovered the easy wi-fi direct feed and can play a huge variety of videos...even direct from youtube.com! I bought the TV through BestBuy because I got the 2-year extended warranty which, while more expensive than Amazon's, it covered more potential problems and I like having a live human being to look in the face to get any problem(s) resolved.
