Open box policy wrong

The price was right and it had all the features I wanted. When trying to put the tv onto the cart, the best buy associate noticed the bottom of the box was falling apart. At the front door, another associate noticed it too and taped it up. After I got the item home, my son and I pulled the tv out of the box and noticed it was cracked. Upon returning it to the store, I was told that I caused the crack and there was nothing they could do about it. I had purchased a geek squad protection plan that I was told covered this problem, but it didn't. I was refunded my protection plan and told there was nothing else anyone could do about it since the store had made sure the tv was not cracked before placing it on the floor for display. I have been a loyal Best Buy customer for years. I have purchased multiple appliances and electronics from them. This is the first bad experience I've had with them. The policy needs to be changed on open box items, or at least allow the customer to inspect the product before they purchase it.
